CHASE'S 15* MLB HIDDEN GEM
NY Mets vs. Atlanta, 06/09/2017 19:35 EDT
Atlanta+103

This game has the 25-32 Mets and the 26-32 Braves. I think the one thing the Mets got going for them in this game is they were off yesterday while the Braves played but starter wise I have been loving the Matt Harvey fade this season. Mets are considering moving Harvey to the bullpen which should tell you something about his stamina. Julio Teheran has had a very off season but is off a game where he went 6.1 innings pitched well and got the win. Teheran's major problem is the long ball and I think if they can keep the ball in the yard the Braves should win easy today. We will take the Braves for a 15* winner Friday Night.

Preview: Rockies at Cubs

GAME: Colorado Rockies (39-23) at Chicago Cubs (30-29)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 2:20 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Colorado Rockies are beginning to have the look of a legitimate World Series contender, as they boast the second-best record in the National League and seem to have the defending World Series champs’ number. The Rockies look to extend their winning streak to six games and continue their strong performance against the Chicago Cubs when the teams continue a four-game series Friday at Wrigley Field.

The Rockies beat the Cubs 4-1 in Thursday’s opener, giving Colorado three wins in four meetings this season and seven of 10 against the Cubs since the beginning of the 2016 campaign. While the Rockies have won five straight and lead the NL West by two games, the Cubs are just one game over .500, though they’re only a game behind Milwaukee for the NL Central lead. The biggest difference for Chicago has been its starting pitchers, who had posted a 2.34 ERA through 59 games last season compared with a 4.65 mark this year, and the rotation took another hit with right-hander Kyle Hendricks (finger) landing on the disabled list Wednesday. Left-hander Mike Montgomery is set to make his first start of the season for the Cubs – he is 5-7 with a 4.23 ERA in 23 career starts.

TV: 2:20 p.m. ET, MLB Network, ROOT (Colorado), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH German Marquez (4-3, 4.53 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Mike Montgomery (0-3, 2.21)

Marquez dominated the Cubs on May 10 in Colorado, striking out eight and allowed three hits over eight scoreless innings. That was the first of four straight wins for the 22-year-old, but he faltered Friday at San Diego and was tagged for six runs and eight hits over five innings in his first loss since May 5. Marquez did strike out a career-high nine Padres, but he also surrendered two home runs for the second straight start.

Montgomery has been solid out of the bullpen as a long reliever, most recently throwing 3 1/3 scoreless frames to earn his second save Monday against Miami. The 27-year-old had a streak of eight straight scoreless outings spanning 17 innings earlier this season. Montgomery’s only appearance against the Rockies was a start last season in which he allowed one run and one hit over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs SS Addison Russell was not with the team Thursday after social media posts prompted MLB to begin an investigation into domestic abuse allegations against Russell.

2. Rockies CF Charlie Blackmon has tied a career-high with six straight multi-hit games, going 12-for-24 during the streak.

3. Colorado RH Greg Holland has converted all 22 save opportunities this season, a franchise record to begin a season.

Preview: Rangers at Nationals

GAME: Texas Rangers (27-32) at Washington Nationals (38-21)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Tanner Roark is bidding to become the third seven-game winner for the Washington Nationals when they host the Texas Rangers on Friday night in the opener of a three-game interleague series. The Nationals kicked off a seven-game homestand with a 6-1 win over Baltimore in a makeup game Thursday to improve to 8-2 in their last 10.

Roark will have a tough act to follow after Washington received another pitching gem from Joe Ross on Thursday, giving the starting rotation a 0.45 ERA with 34 strikeouts versus three walks over 20 1/3 innings in the past three games. Leadoff batter Trea Turner has hit safely in five straight games and eight of nine, going 16-for-41 with nine runs scored in that span. Rangers right-hander Andrew Casher got an elephant off his back in his last start of May, ending an 18-start road winless streak dating to September 2015. Texas has dropped 11 of 14 and is in the midst of a brutal schedule to start the month of June with nine of the first 11 games against Houston and the Nationals, the teams with the two best records in baseball.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), MASN2 (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Andrew Cashner (2-5, 3.39 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Tanner Roark (6-2, 3.95)

There was no carry over from Cashner's streak-busting win on the road as he was battered for five runs and a season-worst 11 hits over six innings by Houston in his last turn. His win at Toronto on May 28 marked the fifth quality start in a span of six outings before the pounding by the Astros. Cashner is 2-4 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 career appearances (seven starts) versus Washington.

Roark bounced back from a four-start winless drought by winning his last three outings, pitching at least seven innings in each while allowing a combined five earned runs. The 30-year-old has curbed the issues with his control during the winning streak, allowing only two walks in 21 2/3 innings. Catcher Jonathan Lucroy has enjoyed success against Roark, going 5-for-13.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals RF Bryce Harper snapped out of a 2-for-21 slump with three hits Thursday.

2. Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre is sidelined with an ankle injury and could be headed for the disabled list.

3. Nationals OF Jayson Werth is still on crutches waiting for the swelling in his injured left foot to subside.

Preview: Marlins at Pirates

GAME: Miami Marlins (26-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (26-34)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Miami Marlins are riding a hot streak with wins in nine of their last 12 games thanks to a pitching staff that allowed three or fewer runs eight times in that span. The Marlins will try to follow up a convincing win and clinch at least a tie of the four-game series when they visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.

Edinson Volquez followed up his no-hitter with seven scoreless innings as Miami (26-33) cruised to a 7-1 win in the series opener and moved one step closer to getting back to .500. Center fielder Christian Yelich snapped out of a slump with a pair of doubles in the win - matching his extra-base hit total from the previous 12 games - while driving in a run and scoring one. The Pirates are losers of three straight and six of their last eight games due in large part to a pitching staff that is allowing an average of 5.4 runs in that span. Pittsburgh will try to get a better effort on Friday when it sends struggling right-hander Tyler Glasnow to the mound to oppose veteran Marlins righty Vance Worley.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Vance Worley (0-2, 6.59 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Tyler Glasnow (2-5, 6.97)

Worley suffered through his worst outing of the season last time out, when he was rocked for five runs on six hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The California native is making his fourth start - fifth appearance - since joining the Marlins and is still looking for his first win and first quality start. Worley pitched for the Pirates in 2014 and 2015 and is facing his former team for the first time since leaving in the 2015-2016 offseason.

Glasnow is getting a long leash in his rookie campaign but is not doing much to hold onto the rotation spot with losses in four of his last six outings. The former top prospect was knocked around for a total of nine runs and 13 hits over 10 innings in losses to the Mets in his last two turns and yielded three home runs at New York on Saturday. Glasnow is getting his first career look at the Marlins.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates LF Gregory Polanco went 0-for-4 on Thursday - the third time in four games he failed to record a hit.

2. Marlins INF Derek Dietrich went 3-for-4 on Thursday to match his hit total from the previous six games.

3. Pittsburgh recalled RHP Dovydas Neverauskas from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to the series opener.

Preview: White Sox at Indians

GAME: Chicago White Sox (25-33) at Cleveland Indians (29-28)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians look to put a disastrous road trip in their rear-view mirror as they speed toward the opener of a three-game series against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Friday. Cleveland erupted for 33 runs to win four of its last five contests at Progressive Field before getting outscored 35-17 during its 1-4 trek through Kansas City and Colorado.

"The only thing we're really consistent in is being inconsistent," Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters on the heels of Wednesday's 8-1 rout by the Rockies. Jose Ramirez belted a solo homer in that contest to extend his hitting streak to four games, is 17-for-45 in his last 12 contests and 3-for-7 with a blast in his career against Friday starter Miguel Gonzalez. Todd Frazier has also been flexing his muscle of late, although his third homer in four contests wasn't enough as Chicago dropped a 7-5 decision to Tampa Bay for its seventh loss in eight outings. The 31-year-old Frazier has taken his lumps versus Friday starter Corey Kluber, going 1-for-21 with nine strikeouts in his career.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), STO (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (4-6, 4.83 ERA) vs. Indians RH Corey Kluber (4-2, 4.36)

Gonzalez's fast start to the season has been slowed by a brutal stretch in which he has recorded a 1-6 mark with a 6.64 ERA over his last seven starts. The 33-year-old was taken deep on three occasions Saturday and allowed six runs on 10 hits in six innings of a 10-1 rout at Detroit. Gonzalez had a tough time of it in his last meeting with Cleveland as well, as he received a no-decision after permitting three runs on eight hits while seeing his pitch count elevate to 101 in 4 2/3 innings on April 13.

Kluber made a triumphant return from the disabled list on June 1, recording 10 strikeouts while scattering two hits over six strong innings in an 8-0 rout of Oakland. The 31-year-old also authored a sterling performance against Chicago on April 21, allowing just three hits and fanning nine while going the distance in a 3-0 victory. Kluber received a bit of extra rest as the Indians didn't want him swinging the bat in the National League park (Coors Field) after just coming off the DL with a back injury.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cleveland SS Francisco Lindor has six hits in his last seven games overall and is 7-for-22 with two homers, three RBIs and four runs scored against Chicago this season.

2. White Sox RF Avisail Garcia has collected five multi-hit performances in his last eight contests.

3. Cleveland OF Michael Brantley went hitless in eight at-bats in Colorado, but is 7-for-21 with two homers and five RBIs against Chicago this season.

Preview: Tigers at Red Sox

GAME: Detroit Tigers (29-30) at Boston Red Sox (32-27)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox just completed a 5-5 road trip and watched their offense disappear when a chance to take over first place in the American League East was on the line at the New York Yankees. The Red Sox will try to find their bats when they return home to host the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

Boston managed one run in the final 22 innings during the three-game series in New York, following up an 8-0 loss on Wednesday with a 9-1 setback on Thursday to drop three games behind in the division. The Red Sox went a combined 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base in the two losses while Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez combined to go 2-for-15. Detroit pounded its way to wins in five of six before falling 11-4 to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday to wrap up a 4-2 homestand and drop back to one game below .500 (29-30). The Tigers will try to take advantage of Boston's sudden offensive drought behind right-hander Jordan Zimmermann while the Red Sox counter with lefty Brian Johnson.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Detroit, NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (5-4, 5.98 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH Brian Johnson (2-0, 2.57)

Zimmermann bounced back from one of his worst starts of the season with one of his best, holding the Chicago White Sox to one run in six innings to earn a win on Saturday. The Wisconsin native was lit up for seven runs in five frames by that same White Sox squad in his previous turn. Zimmermann, who allowed four or more earned runs in seven of his 11 starts, held Boston to one run on four hits in six innings to earn a win on April 8.

Johnson is recovered from a hamstring injury that hampered him in the minors and returns to take over the rotation spot vacated by lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (knee). Johnson is making his third major-league start of the season and first since tossing a five-hit, no-walk shutout against the Seattle Mariners on May 27. The 26-year-old was 2-0 with a 2.72 ERA in eight Triple-A starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (wrist) is expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list on Friday.

2. Detroit 1B Miguel Cabrera did not record an extra-base hit in any of his last four games.

3. Boston CF Jackie Bradley Jr. and 3B Pablo Sandoval were a combined 0-for-10 with five strikeouts in the last two games.

Preview: Athletics at Rays

GAME: Oakland Athletics (26-33) at Tampa Bay Rays (31-31)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Tampa Bay Rays are trying to keep from falling too far back in the American League East race and next face an opponent that could help them make a move in the standings. The Oakland Athletics, who own the fewest road wins in the majors with an 8-20 mark, will kick off a four-game series at Tampa Bay on Friday night.

The Rays are physically banged up, placing second baseman Brad Miller on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday and watching outfield Kevin Kiermaier hobble off the field one night later with a jammed right hip following an awkward slide at first base. Catcher Derek Norris is under investigation by Major League Baseball for alleged physical and emotional abuse of his former fiancee but shook of the distractions by connecting for a pair of homers in Tampa Bay's 7-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. While Oakland failed to complete a three-game sweep of Toronto on Wednesday, center fielder Rajai Davis had the 10th four-hit game of his career, matching his total from the previous 10 games (4-for-38). Trevor Plouffe homered in the extra-inning loss, halting a funk of his own in which he was mired in an 0-for-25 slump.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN California (Oakland), FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Andrew Triggs (5-5, 3.36 ERA) vs. Rays RH Alex Cobb (4-5, 4.52)

Triggs opened the season by allowing one earned run or less in six of his first eight starts, but he has hit a rut with three consecutive defeats while giving up 18 runs. Triggs lasted a season-low 3 2/3 innings last time out versus Washington and was roughed up for six runs and nine hits. After allowing one homer in seven starts, Triggs has given up five in his last four starts.

Like Triggs, Cobb also is coming off his worst outing, getting hammered for nine runs and 14 hits over five innings at Seattle on Saturday. While Cobb is 1-3 with a 3.67 ERA at home, eight of his starts have come on the road, where he is pitching to a 5.01 ERA and allowing a .311 batting average against. Jed Lowrie is 6-for-13 against Cobb, who is 3-2 with a 2.44 ERA versus Oakland.

WALK-OFFS

1. OF Peter Bourjos homered Thursday in his return from the DL, giving Tampa Bay back-to-back blasts for the eighth time -- most in the majors.

2. Former Rays OF Matt Joyce has nine RBIs in his last eight games for the Athletics.

3. Rays SS Tim Anderson, who has hit safely in four straight overall, is 5-for-17 with two homers against Oakland.

Preview: Orioles at Yankees

GAME: Baltimore Orioles (31-27) at New York Yankees (34-23)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:35 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Yankees bashed their way to a series win over the Boston Red Sox this week, ensuring themselves a position atop the American League East. The Baltimore Orioles will try to make the gap a little tighter when they visit the Yankees for the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

New York dropped the series opener to the Red Sox before winning the next two by a combined 17-1 as the baby bombers stepped up. Gary Sanchez was last season's slugging rookie sensation in the Bronx before ceding that distinction to Aaron Judge in 2017, but Sanchez showed he is still worthy of plenty of praise when he bashed a pair of home runs and drove in five in Thursday's 9-1 triumph. The Orioles have a lineup capable of bashing plenty of home runs but dropped a 6-1 decision to the Washington Nationals on Thursday as an injury to Manny Machado and a day off to rest for Adam Jones left the team without the pop to compete. The Orioles will try to put themselves in a better position on Friday, when Dylan Bundy takes the mound opposite Jordan Montgomery.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, MLB Network, MASN (Baltimore), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Dylan Bundy (6-4, 2.93 ERA) vs. Yankees LH Jordan Montgomery (3-4, 3.67)

Bundy suffered the loss in three of his last four starts and is coming off his shortest stint of the season. The former No. 4 overall draft pick allowed two runs and four hits in five innings on Saturday and ended up with the loss as Baltimore went on to fall 5-2. Bundy's lone win in the four-game span came against New York on May 29, when he allowed two runs in seven innings.

Montgomery has been a solid addition to the Yankees rotation and snapped a four-start winless streak by holding the Toronto Blue Jays scoreless on three hits in six innings on Saturday. The 24-year-old, who has given up just one homer in the last three games, lasted just 4 1/3 innings while allowing three runs - one earned against Baltimore on May 29. Montgomery has already made two starts against the Orioles and went 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Machado (wrist) underwent testing on Thursday which all came back negative.

2. Baltimore 1B Chris Davis took Machado's spot at 3B on Thursday and went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.

3. New York SS Didi Gregorius hit safely in each of the last 10 games.

GAME: New York Mets (25-32) at Atlanta Braves (26-32)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 7:35 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Mets arrive in Atlanta for Friday’s series opener against the Braves sitting seven games under .500, and any faint chance they have of contending for a playoff spot hinges on their play the next month. The Mets play the Nationals seven times in the next six weeks, and also face series against the Chicago Cubs (starting Monday), Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies, so a good weekend against the Braves would be welcomed.

“We need to start playing good baseball,” Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters after Wednesday’s 4-3 victory at Texas, “and when we do that, we’ll start winning games in bunches.” New York has lost five of its past seven and has allowed 10 runs or more in three of those defeats. The Braves sit one-half game ahead of the Mets in the National League East after splitting a four-game series with Philadelphia. The series features two of the better outfielders in the NL, as New York’s Michael Conforto ranks among the league leaders in slugging percentage (.618) and Atlanta’s Matt Kemp sits in the top 10 in the league in batting average (.325).

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN South (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Matt Harvey (4-3, 5.43 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (5-4, 5.40)

Harvey averaged 1.8 walks per nine innings two seasons ago but has struggled with his control, that ratio inflating to 4.7 this season as he has walked four or more hitters five times in his past seven outings. The 28-year-old opened June by allowing six runs in five innings, getting a no-decision against Pittsburgh in the third time in 11 starts Harvey has given up six runs. One of those games was in Atlanta on May 2, dropping his career mark against the Braves to 3-6 with a 4.76 ERA.

Teheran has won his last two starts, despite allowing seven runs on five hits in five innings Sunday at Cincinnati, but both of those starts were away from SunTrust Park. In the Braves' new home, Teheran is 1-4 in six starts with an 8.40 ERA, giving up nine homers and 31 runs in just 30 innings, compared to a 2.95 ERA in road games. Teheran, who has allowed nine homers across his past four starts, gave up six runs in a home loss to New York on May 1.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Mets have homered in 22 of their 24 road games this season, getting two from Jay Bruce in Wednesday’s victory.

2. Atlanta starting pitchers have worked at least seven innings in each of the past three games.

3. New York 2B Neil Walker, who missed Wednesday’s game with knee stiffness, is expected to play Friday.

GAME: Los Angeles Angels (31-32) at Houston Astros (43-18)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros were scintillating during an 8-2 road trip and look to bring the momentum home when they open a three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. Houston owns the best record in the majors (43-18) and holds a 13-game lead over the Angels and Seattle Mariners in the American League West as it opens up a nine-game homestand.

Standout second baseman Jose Altuve slammed a tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth inning of Thursday's 6-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals as the Astros homered for the 16th consecutive game. The streak is the second longest in franchise history behind an 18-game run in 2000 and Houston has gone deep 33 times during the stretch to boost its major-league lead to 95. Houston is 5-2 against the Angels this season and Los Angeles has experienced deep troubles at Minute Maid Park by losing 21 of its last 30. The Angels routed Detroit 11-4 on Thursday to take two of three from the Tigers to win a road series for the first time since the end of April.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), ROOT (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Matt Shoemaker (5-3, 4.12 ERA) vs. Astros RH Brad Peacock (3-0, 2.30)

Shoemaker has won four of his past five starts and has a 2.73 ERA during the stretch. The 30-year-old is 2-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 11 career appearances (nine starts) against the Astros, including 0-2 with a 4.85 ERA in two 2017 appearances. Shoemaker has experienced big-time issues with Altuve (10-for-26, three homers) while shutting down George Springer (2-for-21, eight strikeouts).

Peacock is making his fourth start after staff injuries led to him joining the rotation. The 29-year-old struck out a season-high nine while allowing just two runs and four hits over six innings in a win over the Texas Rangers in his last turn. Peacock is 3-1 with a 4.54 ERA in eight career appearances (five starts) versus the Angels.

WALK-OFFS

1. Springer struck out three times in five at-bats on Thursday to see a 12-game hitting streak reach an end.

2. Los Angeles DH Albert Pujols is just 2-for-13 in four games since slugging his 600th career homer.

3. Houston ace LHP Dallas Keuchel (neck) was placed on the 10-day disabled list one day after being scratched from a start due to illness.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (21-37) at St. Louis Cardinals (26-32)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals came up empty in all seven contests of their just-completed road trip, but a return to Busch Stadium to host a struggling foe could be just what the doctor ordered for manager Mike Matheny's charges. Mired in their worst losing skid since 2013, the Cardinals look to get back on track in the opener of a three-game series versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.

"This is baseball. It's heavy right now, there's no doubt about it," Matheny told reporters after St. Louis was unceremoniously swept by Cincinnati with a 5-2 setback on Thursday for its 17th loss in 22 games. "In the long run, we're going to snap out of this. It's just hard finding what that key is." Matt Carpenter has hit the right notes with a homer in back-to-back contests for the Cardinals, who outscored the Phillies by a 34-15 margin last season en route to winning five of the seven matchups. Philadelphia, which owns a majors-worst record of 21-37 as well as a dreadful 9-23 mark away from home, received a rare ray of light with a season-high four-game winning streak before getting outscored 17-2 in losing back-to-back outings at Atlanta. Odubel Herrera recorded an extra-base hit for the sixth straight contest in Thursday's 3-1 setback, improving to 13-for-28 with 10 doubles, two homers, nine RBIs and eight runs scored during his seven-game hitting streak.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jeremy Hellickson (5-3, 4.50 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Michael Wacha (2-3, 4.67)

Hellickson's strong start to the season has taken a significant hit, as the 30-year-old has answered a 4-0 mark with a 1.80 ERA in April with a 1-3 record and 6.75 ERA in his last seven starts. He received a no-decision on Sunday after being taken deep twice in 5 1/3 innings against San Francisco, raising his homer total to 11 permitted over the last seven outings. Hellickson owns a 2-1 mark with a 5.03 ERA in three career starts versus St. Louis.

Wacha fell to 0-2 with a bloated 11.91 ERA in his last three outings after receiving a no-decision Sunday despite allowing six runs on as many hits in 4 1/3 innings at the Chicago Cubs. The 25-year-old has pitched just 4 1/3 innings, three, and four respectively in his last three outings after opening the season with seven consecutive starts of six or more frames. Wacha owns a 1-2 mark with a 4.82 ERA in three career starts versus Philadelphia.

WALK-OFFS

1. Philadelphia SS Freddy Galvis is 9-for-19 with two homers, four RBIs and four runs scored during his six-game hitting streak.

2. St. Louis RF Stephen Piscotty has two homers, five RBIs and three runs scored in his last five contests.

3. Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is 6-for-16 with one homer and three RBIs during his four-game hitting streak.

The Cincinnati Reds carry a four-game winning streak into their series with Los Angeles beginning Friday at Dodger Stadium, where they've lost six straight contests and five series in a row. Cincinnati (29-30) completed a four-game sweep of St. Louis with a 5-2 victory Thursday as Joey Votto (.300 average, 16 home runs, 48 RBIs) matched a career high with four hits and homered for the second straight game, and is 11-for-23 in his last six contests with six runs scored in the past four.

"Joey Votto is something else," Reds right-hander Scott Feldman told reporters after the first baseman recorded his 22nd four-hit game. "I get a big kick out of watching his approach at the plate. You have to see him every day to appreciate how good he is. When he's hot, there's nobody better." Los Angeles (36-25), which has the second-most home victories (22) in the major leagues to Arizona despite kicking off a six-game stretch at Dodger Stadium by losing two of three to Washington earlier this week, is about to get a key piece back in its lineup. Third baseman Justin Turner (.379) could return Friday after missing 19 games because of a hamstring injury. Cincinnati rookie Amir Garrett was rocked in his first start since returning from the disabled list and opposes Rich Hill, who continues to search for the form that produced a career-best 12-5 record last season while making his first start against the Reds since 2007.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), SportsNet LA (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds LH Amir Garrett (3-4, 7.17 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Rich Hill (2-2, 4.15)

Garrett allowed nine runs (eight earned), seven hits (three home runs) and three walks in 2 2/3 innings of a 13-8 loss to Atlanta on Sunday. "I was trying to do too much with the changeup," the 25-year-old Californian, who was coming off a hip injury, told reporters. "It is easy to fix. I need to get in the bullpen and work on it. I'm confident in myself. I'm going to get back on track." Since winning his first two career starts, Garrett is 1-4 with a 9.27 ERA in his last seven outings.

Hill received a no-decision after yielding three runs (two earned), three hits and four walks while striking out five in four innings of Los Angeles' 10-8 victory in Milwaukee on Saturday in his sixth start of the season. The 37-year-old Boston native, who was 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA in six outings with the Dodgers in 2016, has not pitched into the sixth inning this season. Hill is 3-2 with a 4.05 ERA in nine games (seven starts) versus Cincinnati and the only current Red he has faced is Votto (0-for-2).

WALK-OFFS

1. Cincinnati's Zack Cosart has reached base safely in 30 straight games after going 1-for-5 with a run scored Thursday. It is the longest on-base streak by a Reds shortstop since Barry Larkin's 31-game run in 1991.

2. Los Angeles SS Corey Seager (.274, eight home runs, 25 RBIs) homered Wednesday -- his first in 16 games -- to raise his June average to .192.

3. Cincinnati 2B Scooter Gennett (.306, seven home runs, 31 RBIs) went 3-for-8 with an RBI and run scored in the last two games since becoming the 17th player in major league history to hit four home runs in a game Tuesday, when he also had 10 RBIs.

GAME: Kansas City Royals (26-33) at San Diego Padres (23-38)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Kansas City Royals are hopeful of being part of the American League Central race and the upcoming road trip may decide whether they do. Kansas City visits the San Diego Padres on Friday in the opener of three-game set that is part of a nine-game West Coast road trip.

The Royals, who are just 9-17 on the road, split a four-game series against the best team in baseball - the Houston Astros - despite losing 6-1 on Thursday. Standout catcher Salvador Perez (thumb) sat out the finale after being 6-for-12 in the first three games of the series but is expected to start Friday's game. San Diego has dropped five straight games and was outscored 32-9 while losing three straight to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres were demolished 15-3 in Thursday's contest against Arizona and have allowed 45 runs during their five-game skid.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals LH Eric Skoglund (1-1, 4.32 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jhoulys Chacin (4-5, 5.65)

Skoglund is making his third big-league start, pitching great in his debut and struggling in his second outing. The 24-year-old tossed 6 1/3 innings of two-hit shutout ball while beating the Detroit Tigers and then gave up four runs and four hits in two innings before leaving due to a rain delay while losing to the Cleveland Indians in his follow-up outing. Skoglund was 2-3 with a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings at Triple-A Omaha before his recall.

Chacin has been superb at home this season by going 2-1 with a 1.36 ERA in five starts at Petco Park. Opposing hitters have just a .157 average against Chacin at Petco, compared to the 29-year-old being touched up for a .377 mark on the road. Chacin lost his lone career start against the Royals when he gave up three runs and seven hits over six innings in 2014 as a member of the Colorado Rockies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Royals 1B Eric Hosmer is hitless in eight at-bats over the past two games after enjoying a nine-game hitting streak.

2. San Diego RF Hunter Renfroe has 20 RBIs in the last 23 contests.

3. Kansas City RF Jorge Bonifacio is 3-for-19 with 10 strikeouts over the past five games.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (29-31) at Seattle Mariners (30-31)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners had a season-best five-game winning streak halted and aim to start a new stretch of victories when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday in the opener of a three-game set. Seattle dropped a 2-1 decision to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday for only its second loss in the past 11 games.

The Mariners had seven hits - six were singles - and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position on Thursday as the offense stalled after scoring 46 runs during the winning streak. Seattle scored just six runs while being swept in a four-game set in Toronto from May 11-14 during a period in which second baseman Robinson Cano (quadriceps) was on the disabled list. The Blue Jays reside in last place in the American League East but are playing superb of late with 11 victories in their last 16 games. Toronto first baseman Justin Smoak, who formerly played four-plus seasons for the Mariners, homered twice in a 7-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday and is tied for second in the AL with 17 homers after going deep five times in the past six games.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Joe Biagini (1-4, 3.31 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Sam Gaviglio (2-1, 3.13)

Biagini is 0-3 over his last four outings despite allowing two or fewer earned runs in each of his last two turns. The 27-year-old owns a solid 1.02 WHIP and is limiting opposing batters to a .216 average over 49 innings. Biagini tossed five innings of four-hit shutout ball in a win over the Mariners on May 12 and is unscored upon in 8 2/3 career innings over four appearances.

Gaviglio has won his past two starts and has given up one or fewer earned runs in three of his four big-league outings. The 27-year-old defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in his last turn when he gave up one run and four hits over five innings and struck out a season-best six. Gaviglio gave up one run and two hits and struck out four against Toronto on May 11 in his major-league debut.

WALK-OFFS

1. Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson has five homers in his last eight contests.

2. Seattle DH Nelson Cruz (calf) said he expects to play Friday after a two-day absence.

3. Toronto RF Jose Bautista is 2-for-28 with 10 strikeouts over the past seven games.

Preview: Twins at Giants

GAME: Minnesota Twins (30-26) at San Francisco Giants (25-37)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 09 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The San Francisco Giants are hoping an unconventional victory in Milwaukee marks the start of their climb up the National League West standings. After completing a 3-4 road trip, the Giants return home Friday to begin a three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins, who snapped Seattle’s five-game winning streak on Thursday.

Rookie left fielder Austin Slater belted his first home run Thursday as the Giants blew a two-run lead in the ninth before scoring four runs in the 10th for a 9-5 win over Milwaukee. “You look at how it’s gone for us – we’ve had some tough times -- and we give up a two-run lead there in the ninth and find a way to win the ballgame,” manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. “That shows a lot about them, the character and how resilient they are, to come back and put a four-spot up, especially on a road trip that hasn't been good for us.” The Giants look to build on the victory against Minnesota, which allowed a total of 18 runs in back-to-back losses to Seattle before holding on for a 2-1 victory on Thursday. Twins catcher Jason Castro homered for the third time in his last five games and is 11-for-39 during his 10-game hitting streak.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (7-3, 2.44 ERA) vs. Giants LH Matt Moore (2-6, 5.22)

Santana turned in his worst start of the season last Saturday against the Angels, allowing seven runs on seven hits over four innings. The 34-year-old had given up just one earned run in 29 innings on the road before running into trouble in Anaheim, where he allowed Albert Pujols’ 600th career home run. Former Twin Denard Span is 14-for-36 with a home run against Santana, who is facing San Francisco for the first time in his 11-year career.

Moore is looking to bounce back after allowing five runs (four earned) over four innings last Sunday against Philadelphia. The 27-year-old has pitched much better at home this season, going 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA in five starts at AT&T Park compared to 0-4 with a 7.94 ERA in seven road outings. Moore is 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in four career starts against Minnesota, including a rough showing last June when he allowed four runs over five innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants INF Eduardo Nunez, who was traded from Minnesota last July, has reached base safely in 23 straight games.

2. The Twins are 4-8 all-time against the Giants, including five straight losses.

3. San Francisco is 14-7 when scoring five or more runs.
