Tampa Bay - Race #1 - Post: 12:25pm - Maiden Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,000 Class Rating: 59

Rating: 4

#9 QUEEN OF THE NILE (ML=5/2)
#4 WIND KISSED (ML=15/1)

QUEEN OF THE NILE - This is a fairly classic handicapping angle. Play a thoroughbred that finished second in a maiden race last time out but finished well clear of the third horse. Jockey hops back aloft after getting to know the horse by riding last out. That's always a green light. This horse has increased her speed ratings from a fig of 30 to 40 to 56 in a row.

WIND KISSED - The fact that this filly is entered right back into a race so quickly means she's fit and ready. Filly took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape.

Vulnerable Contenders:

#2 MILHOJAS (ML=3/1),

#10 MONTY'S DREAM (ML=7/2),

#1 A B ALLIEBELLE (ML=6/1),

MILHOJAS - Doesn't seem to have enough positive angles to warrant the price. MONTY'S DREAM - You always figure that this horse has a shot to be victorious, but she falters frequently. A B ALLIEBELLE - Just can't bet on this vulnerable equine. Didn't show me anything positive last out or on Jan 21st. Hasn't hit the board in any sprint races of late. Not likely to see her doing it today either.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - QUEEN OF THE NILE - My calculations and statistics say it usually takes a thoroughbred at least 2 races after a layoff to get back into proper shape. That's just what we have here, so I have high expectations for this horse.

Golden Gate - Race #6 - Post: 3:18pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,300 Class Rating: 73

Rating: 3

#2 LO'S IN THE FLOW (ML=6/5)

LO'S IN THE FLOW - This racer coming off a good effort in the last thirty days is a solid contender in my humble opinion. I like when a thoroughbred has dropped in class at least 5 pts like this one did in the last race and then runs against a similar field right back. Lucarelli must've found the right class level. Another way to determine class is earnings per start. This horse has the uppermost in the bunch. I think he'll be close at the finish line.

Vulnerable Contenders:

#6 BEST LAID PLANS (ML=4/1),

#5 NEWS BEAT (ML=9/2),

#7 ROCKAWAY MOON (ML=5/1),

BEST LAID PLANS - Tough to wager on any questionable contender in a sprint event if he hasn't finished in the money in a sprint in the last couple months.

NEWS BEAT - No value in throwing a few bucks at this questionable contender. Probably won't improve off that Feb 2nd contest.

ROCKAWAY MOON - The finish of fourth in the last affair shows me that this horse may be losing physical conditioning. Earned a pedestrian speed fig last time around the track in a $25,000 Maiden Claiming race on February 2nd. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that number.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - LO'S IN THE FLOW - Betting the animal with the best last race speed figure is a good angle. None higher than this gelding's last one.

Race 4 - #1 Hard to Resist 9-2

i have been very high on this girl since the day i bought her as a yearling with her trainer Pete Eurton...she has never trained better than her recent morning activity...she has lots of stamina, but is very athletic, so the turn back to the this distance down the hill should not be a concern...tab for a big effort.

#6 STORMIN PROUD PAPA (4-1) Bottom-level gelding from Mitchell
barn rode speed bias to easily defeat a notch better last time and should be
tough right back. He's got tactical speed, likes this track and horses from this
barn often hold their form for a number of races.

#8 APPLY drops in class and stretches out for trainer Carla Gaines.
He should be forwardly placed and the question will be if he can get the distance
against this weak bunch.

Clearly remember the cstars... name from a couple years ago. There were monitored and did nothing noteworthy then.
