EARLY PICK 4: 2,3,6,7/3,8/4,6,8/3,5,9 = $72

LATE PICK 4: 2,4,5/2,3,6/3/2,3,4,5,6 = $45

MEET STATS: 206 - 625 / $1101.90 BEST BETS: 33 - 57 / $112.90

SPOT PLAYS: 16 - 57 / $183.80

Best Bet: SANDBETWEENURTOES (10th)

Spot Play: COTTONWOOD CREEK (1st)

Race 1

(5) COTTONWOOD CREEK has been competitive vs. better in the past and looks well-prepped for her return to the races; slight nod in a wide-open curtain raiser. (3) CHEEKIE finished strongly in her qualifier and also faces easier here. Look for her late. (4) NEVERSAIDIWASSWEET was claimed off a trainer that can move one up immediately; don't discount.

Race 2

(2) HILLSONATOR has been razor-sharp winning his past two starts and a third straight looks likely here. (4) DEMAND AN ANSWER raced well from the 10-hole last time and moving inside makes him more of a threat to the choice here. (6) MACHO MASS closed powerfully last week but was beaten by a pylon-skimmer that enjoyed a better trip. He should share here.

Race 3

(5) MEGO MOSS has raced well in his past two starts in this class and could break the extended goose egg here. (2) ROCKY DE VIE didn't appear to like the wet track last week and gets to drop back down to a level where he almost won two back. He is a contender in this field. (6) MY KID SISTER gets to race at the lowest class for a second week and can threaten this time if she stays flat.

Race 4

(6) CRACKLIN ROSIE was super in victory last week, firing the fastest final 1/4 of the night to beat the heavy favorite. She is the 'now' filly in this series; top call. (7) DOUBLE OLIVES raced off a helmet - which is a better style for her - and got up late last week. She should have plenty of early pace to chase here. (2) AMAZING CONTROL was picked off late but perhaps the slowing of the pace worked against her late. She can't be tossed here.

Race 5

(8) OCEANVIEW BINDI drops and if you look 5 races back in her charts you'll see she beat better than these easily on December 4. Drury should be sending here early here. (3) YOUR MY SECRET was making a threatening move on the final turn last week but was pushed extra-wide in the process. She merits inclusion on early pick 4 tickets considering her current form. (10) MAPPOS MOENHAY moves up off a lifetime-best score but exits the top barn. She could get a minor share at a price here.

Race 6

(8) MONTEZUMA BLUECHIP raced decently in his first start at this class and should be tough here. (4) READ THE PROPOSAL qualified okay on a good track and should be ready for an all-out speed try here. (6) STEVES LEGACY got hung the route last time and still wasn't beaten that far. A slightly better trip puts him right there.

Race 7

(3) RAFA brings an unbeaten record to this Snowshoe series final and seems to get better every time out; slight nod. (9) SHADES OF BAY has been on a real roll and can win from anywhere it seems. He's the one to beat (5) TOWER OF POWER raced tough vs. his stablemate last week and has a puncher's chance at upsetting the two favorites here.

Race 8

(2) DOCS HOLLYWOOD has been racing well and getting closer to a win. She can take this if put into the race a bit earlier. (5) MUCH ADOO missed 3 weeks prior to last week's start and should be tighter and sharper here. (4) MISCHIEVIOUS GIRLS faces easier and will be closing late.

Race 9

(6) RUBIS PRESCOTT was nailed very late last time and is obviously now sharp enough to win. She has always raced better out of the pocket and could land there this time. (2) MARY CELESTE has taken a shuffle two weeks in a row. She is good enough to win off a reasonable trip and never gets bet. (3) WILDCAT MAGIC was compromised by one that pulled in front of her on the backstretch then stopped last time which likely cost her the win. She is in with a good chance here.

Race 10

(3) SANDBEWEENURTOES is the class of this field and doesn't seem bothered racing only once a month; top call. (6) BETIT TO GETIT is as tough as they come but note she was easily handled by the choice three starts back. (5) GREYSTONE LADYLIKE does better when she closed from the back which is a style she will likely employ here.

Race 11

(4) MACHET ROCKET changes trainers here and qualified well enough to compete with these. This looks like a leg where deep Pick 4 coverage is required, however. (6) TABOO SEELSTER should get a slower late pace to close into this week; using. (5) JEREMEYES JEWEL moves up off a tripped-out win but could get a similarly-good journey here. (2) CALL IT COURAGE had a brutal trip last week and the better post will help here but notice her week win record. (3) WAR FILLY is capable of a nice closing brush on her best day but has had several breaks in racing activity; longshot chance.

Meadowlands: Friday 1/22 Analysis

DRF HARNESS

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 5 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 9 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 71 - 243 / $399.50 BEST BETS: 9 - 18 / $33.90

Best Bet: MOONSHINE BALLS (1st)

Spot Play: EXOTIC BEACH (3rd)

Race 1

(9) MOONSHINE BALLS gets away from a sharp horse in Magenta Man and looks to be clearly best on paper. (6) GINNY WEASLEY came back with a solid qualifier and shows past lines that would be good enough to win tonight. (2) BJANTHONY got away with soft fractions last time and never looked back; tougher field tonight. (7) CELEBRITY MASSIVE is capable given the right trip, but he may need some pace help.

Race 2

(2) ALLERAGE STAR should be sitting no worse than second behind her stablemate (2A) OPULENT YANKEE. Both have good early speed and are major players on the win end. (7) CAN DO scored the upset last time in a very impressive mile where he trotted strong at both ends. You may not get 14-1 this week but 5-1 seems very possible. (1A) CASH ME OUT is capable of winning but has to overcome an outside post.

Race 3

(5) EXOTIC BEACH hasn’t been in raging form, but the outside posts aren’t helping either. Tonight he moves to a cozy mid-pack starting slot and drops down for a driver that has as many wins as Gingras this year at the Big M and a 47% R.O.I. (1) GAME OF DREAMERS has been sharp and Campbell chose off my top pick for this one. (6) RIGHTLY SAID went up in smoke as the favorite in her first start for Michael Russo. Let’s not give up on her too quickly.

Race 4

This is a mostly dull group and I think (1) BALLARE HANOVER can take charge from the inside for a barn that has been having a very good meet. (5) LONG STORY SHORT is one of the few sharp horses signed up and he likes to win (53 for 207 lifetime). (4) KEYSTONE TREVOR faded on the lead in what was his first start five weeks; more now?

Race 5

(8) MAGENTA MAN faces much stiffer competition in theory, but this NW7500 came up relatively light and I think the 4-year-old is ready for the test. (1) SARCASTIC MAN looks pretty bad with two eight place finishes lately, but those were from bad posts at Yonkers. Don’t be shocked if he picks up his game tonight at a price. (5) MUSCLES AND SPICE gets a better post to work with after chasing some faster foes of late; chance. (3) SAVIANO AS is another coming out of a pretty quick mile.

Race 6

(5) HAPPILY EVER AFTER raced evenly versus better after five weeks on the sidelines. I’m expecting a lot more this week. (2) MY CAROLINE was Bongiorno’s pick over my selection likely due to barn loyalty and her recent form spree; very playable. (4) HAPPINESS is a stakes-caliber mare but I wasn’t thrilled with her recent qualifier and I fear she won’t offer much value.

Race 7

(2) HOUSE OF CASH draws inside and figures to get aggressive against a mostly lackluster group. (3) NATURAL KEMP has a knack for finishing second and third. The horse that beat him last week would be tough versus this field. (8) HOT SUMMER KNIGHT is in a good spot in his return to the Meadowlands.

Race 8

(3) INITTOWINAFORTUNE had a spectacular 2015 campaign and returned from a few months on the sidelines with a strong qualifying score from off the pace. She looks ready to roll. (2) JERSEYLICIOUS comes off two subpar races but was facing the top class at Dover. Perhaps the switch to the big track will help. (9) TESSA SEELSTER certainly looked good in her debut for the Ron Burke barn. (5) MISSSOMEBEACH BLUE & (6) NOT BEFORE EIGHT have form and could be factors.

Race 9

(6) ITS HUW YOU KNOW was locked in too long and came home fast when clear late a week ago. The addition of hobbles seems to have done the trick on this 4-year-old. (1) MARION MILLIONAIR gets an inside draw and should be handled more aggressively this time. (3) PARIS PRINCESS N was facing much tougher last time out and could be an upset player in here; adds Lasix.

Race 10

(2) SHUTTHEFRONTDOOR impressed me with a strong stretch kick in her qualifier. In a field without a standout, I’ll take a shot that she is ready to roll. (5) GWENEEEE J is clearly in against a softer group this time around. (4) AMERICAN TRUTH came up a bit short in her debut for this barn; another shot.

Race 11

(6) MONEY ON MY MIND raced well in his first start since October. In a field without much form he sticks out as a major player. (2) COIN COLLECTOR gets a new driver and could show better results. (10) FOX VALLEY LEGEND is very sharp but might have to pass the entire field to win.

Race 12

This is a field absent much early speed and I think (4) BULLVILLE MAGGIE could be hustled away from this post. She has the early zip in her arsenal and this is the right spot to use it. (1) GALARINA & (2) LIZZIE’S DREAM are drawn to the inside and should be in close attendance much of the mile.

Race 13

(5) AXIOS made up a ton of ground in his last start at Yonkers after an early miscue and might benefit from the big track. (7) XTATIC HANOVER is coming off a solid effort. (2) T JS MR LAVEC draws inside this week and should be more involved.

Race 14

(4) A LISTER had no shot from post 12 last time and didn’t really have a strong catch-driver in the bike in his previous starts. I’ll take a shot here and hope for a wake-up. (2) FEISTY LOVE was better than her PP line looks last time out. (1) J R JAZZ has inside speed in a field full of question marks. (10) HOT START raced well when last seen but drew worst tonight.

Yonkers: Friday 1/22 Analysis
By Brewster Smith

DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 23 - 90 / $167.80

BEST BETS: 2 - 7 / $10.70

Best Bet: SECRETS OUT N (6th)

Spot Play: NOBLE WARRAWEE (11th)

Race 1

(3) WAYNE THE LEFTY was sharp in victory last out; ready to down these for his second straight score. (1) SODYS MOONSHINE was on the rim but could not keep going forward in his previous trip. (4) BETTOR DESIGN leaves the 8-hole and will needs to revert to his January 8th trip to contend.

Race 2

(4) DREAMS OF THUNDER Trotter is knocking at the door, almost got the job done missing the score by only a 1/2 length; all systems go tonight. (8) SKATES N PLATES moves down the ladder but will have to get it done from the far outside slot. (2) UP FRONT CRAZY blasted out of the 7-hole to grab the lead, but had to settle for the placing last out.

Race 3

(4) COME ON RIDGE Throw out his last clunker and he surely could contend with these; closed strongly two starts back for glory. (3) AUTOMATIC SLIMS has wheeled off two straight victories and figures to be an exotics factor. (5) BLADE SEELSTER is kind of sharp based on his last two tries; watch out.

Race 4

(2) SEEKING NIRVANA Clearly this gal fits well in here. Has been in the exacta in her last three starts and has every right to boss these at her best. (7) CANACO STAR gets a tough post but has good tactical speed to get a good position. (6) NEFERTITI BLUECHIP gets serious post relief and that should help her cause; we shall see.

Race 5

(2) CRACKER COFFEE was late on the scene to land the show spot in her latest. With a favorable trip, she can sweep these off their feet. (1) ALWAYS ABOUT KATEY Qualifier here was sharp enough for his return to the races. (5) CAVIART SHELLY put in a mild rally for fourth money last out; could have a say.

Race 6

(6) SECRETS OUT N came outside late and just got up for win honors in her last trip to the post. Sharp mare can pull off another victory. (1) JUNGLE GENIE N was dead late in the early stages, rallied with a flourish to nail down the place spot last week. (2) ROCKN RUBY N flashed speed most of the way but was nailed for the score by the top pick recently.

Race 7

(4) THERESADEMONINME was facing tougher foes of late, now he moves down the ladder. Gelding can take this group to task for all the marbles. (2) ZORGWIJK NOVA came charging down the center of the track to get the job done last out. (3) HYWAY MARCUS Jersey shipper is moving down in class and is not out of this.

Race 8

(1) ROCKAROUND SUE did not do her best in Delaware but is back at Yonkers, where she made every pole a winning one three trips ago. (4) KAITLYN RAE needs a better trip than in her latest to contend in here; capable. (2) DELIGHTFUL DRAGON Solid effort for this pacing mare to grab the victory in her last try.

Race 9

(1) DEMOCRACY N His last two starts were sharp and he retains the rail slot; ready for action. (4) THESEYESRCRYING was sent by MacDonald down the road last out to take home top prize. (5) JDS CALEB MAN is in fine form and should be square in the mix with these.

Race 10

(1) SAMS ESCAPE Two down the road victories in a row makes this Ten-year-old gelding very tough to beat; the pick. (3) MC DYNAMITE is knocking at the door based on his last three trips. (6) ROCK ICON Here's another that is on fire, scoring his third straight victory. Post hurts but is very capable.

Race 11

(2) NOBLE WARRAWEE could not get to the winner after sitting in the pocket most of the way. At his best and with a fine-timed drive, he can be the boss. (4) EXPRESSIVE ACTION should be well suited in the 4-hole; maybe. (6) LORENZO DREAM fits with this group and has some speed; don't overlook.

Race 12

(5) THE EMPIRESSISTER N took home top prize via the pocket route last time out. Mare is in fine form so two straight clearly is not out of the question. (6) GIANNAS DELIGHT Brennan sent this gal down the road last week for all the glory. (4) STORMUNN has picked up checks in her last four tries and must be considered in all the exotic slots.

Friday's six-pack

-- JD clued us in: Ed Hochuli is the ref for Patriots-Broncos Sunday. Since 2000, Denver is 7-0 in Hochuli games- they're 6-0 in his games since 2008.

-- There is 50-70% chance of rain/snow showers in Denver Sunday.

-- Is Washington DC headed to its biggest snowstorm in 90 years this weekend?

-- Weather changed the Syracuse-Virginia hoop game from Saturday to Sunday and the Cavaliers' game at Wake Forest moves from Monday to Tuesday. Also, games at Villanova/Temple were moved from Saturday to Sunday.

-- Baseball moved its trade deadline from July 31 to August 1 just for this season, because July 31 is on a Sunday. Really smart move to lessen chaos on July 31.

-- I thought the A's badly overpaid DH Billy Butler ($11M a year) until I heard that Hillary Clinton gets $225K for making a speech. Butler at $11M is still awful.
