Los Angeles Lakers at Utah Jazz 9:05PM

Bonus Play Utah Jazz

I'm recommending a play on the Utah Jazz minus the points on Friday night. Utah has dropped three straight games, but take a look at who they have played and you'll see the level of competition drops off a lot tonight. After losing to the likes of Golden State, Houston, and Oklahoma City, a home date with the Lakers should be "just what the doctor ordered." And while the Jazz had last night off, the Lakers are coming off a contest with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a contest where you could tell right away the Lakers' intensity was on high with LeBron James in the building. Los Angeles piled-up points out of the blocks, scoring 40 points in the first 14+ minutes of the game. I believe they will now have a rough time staying at peak level in Salt Lake. We should note that the Lakers are on a 0-4 SU slide when playing without rest. While they're 2-2 ATS, the two covers came as a dog of 12 1/2 points in one game and 13 points in another. They were a single-digit underdog in the two spread losses, just as they are tonight. Utah has been playing without Alec Burks who was lost a while back for the season with a shoulder injury. But the Jazz still have four players averaging between 18.9 ppg & 12.7 ppg. More importantly, Utah is beginning to grasp Quin Snyder's defensive schemes. Toss out the 116 points they gave up to the high-flying Golden State Warriors last time out and Utah held their previous nine opponents to just 92.3 ppg. Tough spot for the Lakers and I'm recommending a play on the Utah Jazz minus the points. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders 7:05PM

1* Bonus Play Pittsburgh Penguins

A couple of the league?s best go head to head on Friday night, I think the visitors offer pretty good value here. I am primarily a ?situational? handicapper at heart, meaning that for the most part, it doesn?t matter who is between the pipes or on the field of play. I base my picks on situation, motivation and like to take advantage of lop-sided trends and numbers. For me, this pick is based on the fact that the Penguins play with ?double revenge? after losing the last two meetings with the surprising Isles this season, a 5-4 loss at home on November 21st, before then falling 4-1 on Long Island the following night in the second game of the home-and-home scenario. Also note that Pittsburgh is 11-4 (+3.4 units) this year in revenging a loss vs. an opponent, while New York is a poor 6-7 (-2.4 units) after a three-game unbeaten streak. I think the PENGUINS are worth a second look in this spot, but how about you? Can the Islanders take three straight in this series?
