Solder is on the downside but Giants OL play was so bad last year that I guess you could spend the $ in worse ways.

Baker Mayfield says he's improved since NFL combine.

NORMAN, Okla. -- After his final public workout during Oklahoma's pro day, quarterback Baker Mayfield said Wednesday that he feels as if he's put himself "in a good spot to be considered the best quarterback in the draft."
"It's kind of interesting to think, before the season, people had me at a third- or fourth-round grade," Mayfield said. "But now it's improved a little bit."
Satisfied with his showing at the NFL combine, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner elected not to run, jump or lift. Instead, he went through passing drills for roughly a half-hour, throwing to former Oklahoma teammates. Mayfield said he wanted to show that he could "make all the throws."
"I felt at the combine, there were a couple of deep balls I left short," he said. "I think today I made that correction."
The first day of free agency didn't stop several big NFL names from traveling to Norman. That included Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan and Denver Broncos general manager John Elway. Mayfield confessed it was especially "surreal" to pass in front of Elway.
Mayfield met with officials from the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday and was scheduled to meet with the New York Giants later Wednesday. Mayfield also initially had a meeting scheduled with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday that the team canceled with hopes of rescheduling.
"No matter the height question, people question the character, but I think all these meetings have been great for me," said Mayfield, who measured 6 feet, ⅝ inches at the combine and has had to answer questions about his public intoxication arrest last offseason and on-field antics that at one point prevented him from starting his final home game at Oklahoma.
"It's an interesting process. People trying to evaluate your game, trying to find your flaws. But you only get to do it once. You've got to enjoy it. ... You've got to be yourself. That's the most important thing. You've got to be able to talk ball. You've got to be able to handle the outside noise and relax and do your thing.
"I think I've put myself in a good spot."
Mayfield is slated to remain in Norman so he can continue to meet with teams until NFL league meetings begin March 25. Mayfield also has two camps he is putting on for kids in the Oklahoma City area later this week. The Broncos, Dolphins, Jets, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills are among the teams planning to meet with Mayfield in Norman, looking to fly him to their facilities or both.
"I have a good feel on which teams like me and which teams aren't as interested, but you never know how free agency is going to hit," Mayfield said. "I'm sure there's been stuff that's happened since I've been working out today, so all I can do is focus on myself."
During the combine, Mayfield turned heads when he declared that if anyone could turn the Browns around, it would be him. On Wednesday, he said he remains intrigued by the idea of going to a rebuilding franchise, though he added that he would be comfortable going to a winning one as well.
"I'd like either one," he said. "You can look at it like coming here [Oklahoma], a winning tradition. It would be like going to a franchise with a winning tradition. So I'd know exactly how to work and do all that.
"But then at the same time, if I went to a franchise that hasn't done well recently, I'd love to be the one to turn it around if I get the chance to do so."
Even though he stands to be the first Sooner taken in the first round since 2013, Mayfield reiterated that he won't be attending the NFL draft at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 26. Instead, Mayfield is planning to watch the draft from his hometown in Austin, Texas.
"I'd rather spend time with my family," he said. "People helped me get there. It was never a one-man show. So I'll have friends and family and coaches, and I'll get to enjoy it with them."

Not sure what to think of Baker Mayfield.

The Manziel comparisons are a joke though.

He may be the best qb in the draft. Yet the whole Oklahoma thing worries me in a pass happy Big 12. OU quarterbacks are generally 1 read guys.

Buffalo Bills agree to terms on two-year deal with QB AJ McCarron

DYSS1-XU8AAZ9Zv.jpg

AJ McCarron finally found a home.
The Buffalo Bills announced Wednesday night that they have agreed to terms with McCarron on a two-year deal.
After spending four seasons in Cincinnati, McCarron won his grievance to become a free agent in February and was expected to have a lot of interest from QB-needy teams like Minnesota, Cleveland, Denver and the New York Jets. But one by one over the past week, those clubs found starters for 2018 (Kirk Cousins, Tyrod Taylor, Case Keenum, Josh McCown, respectively), leaving McCarron as the odd QB out.
One of the last free-agent QBs with starting experience left standing, McCarron enters a barren QB room in Buffalo, with only Nathan Petermanalongside him on the depth chart.
With only four starts to his name, McCarron has a legitimate chance to win the starting job in Buffalo. His career stats are as follows: 64.7 comp pct., 920 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs, 93.6 rating with a 2-2 record, including a loss in the 2015 wild-card game.
However, in trading Taylor and Cordy Glenn over the past two weeks, Buffalo has stockpiled five picks in the top 65 including the 12th overall selection. The Bills are all but expected to use their draft collateral to trade into the top 10, perhaps past the QB-needy Browns (No. 4), Broncos (No. 5) and Jets(No. 6), and select their QB of the future. Their acquisition of McCarron won't affect those plans.
But for now -- for a month-plus -- it's McCarron's team in Western New York.

Vikings finalize trade for Broncos QB Trevor Siemian.

DYR6EoDWkAImY4E.jpg

The Minnesota Vikings found a backup quarterback.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday the Vikings have finalized a trade with the Denver Broncos for quarterback Trevor Siemian. In addition to Siemian, Denver sends a 2018 draft pick to Minnesota in exchange for a 2019 pick.
Siemian provides the Vikes with a backup once they lock down the Kirk Cousins deal, which is expected to be finalized Thursday. Cousins is heading to Minnesota for a visit Wednesday night.
Siemian will provide experience behind Cousins after starting 24 games the past two seasons in Denver, compiling 30 touchdown passes, 24 interceptions and a 59.3 completion percentage. The former seventh-round pick doesn't boast the tools that get scouts drooling, but proved he can move the offense when protected.
The 26-year-old became the odd man out in Denver after John Elway signed Case Keenum to a two-year contract, inducing the trade. The Broncoswill press forward with Keenum as a bridge, former first-round pick Paxton Lynch, and 2017 seventh rounder Chad Kelly. Elway could also spend the No. 5 overall pick on another rookie QB.
The Vikings needed a backup after losing Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater in free agency. Kyle Sloter was the only quarterback on the roster when the new league year opened.
Nabbing Siemian for a late-round pick is a solid move for Minnesota. As we saw with Philadelphia, backup quarterback remains a vital position for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Siemian might have his flaws, but he also has proven to be a capable spot starter who likely will have a lengthy NFL career as a QB caddy.

Dolphins release Julius Thomas, Ndamukong Suh.

The Miami Dolphins released tight end Julius Thomas on Wednesday as they announced a series of moves, including the official release of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
ESPN had reported earlier this week that the Dolphins planned to release Suh.
Thomas, 29, played one season for the Dolphins, who acquired him in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguarslast offseason.
He appeared in 14 games (13 starts) last season, finishing with 41 receptions for 388 yards and three touchdowns.
He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Denver Broncos in 2013-14 when he finished with 12 touchdown catches each season.
He parlayed that success into a five-year, $46 million deal in free agency in 2015 with Jacksonville but didn't make a similar impact with the Jaguars. His best season came in 2015 when he caught 46 passes for 455 yards and five touchdowns.
In 71 career games over seven seasons with the Broncos, Jaguars and Dolphins, Thomas has 226 receptions, 2,406 yards and 36 touchdown catches.
In addition to the releases of Thomas and Suh, the Dolphins also officially announced the acquisition of linebacker Robert Quinn from the Los Angeles Rams and the trade of wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Cleveland Browns.
