lets not forget cowher's history in big games.

7-8 in the playoffs

losing 3 AFC Championship games at HOME.

That record reminds me a little of marty schottenheimers inability to win big games in the playoffs. Coaches that lose big games tend to coach tight in big games and that can rub off on their players.

Lombardi couldn't win with Kordell!!!

Abrahams is not 100%, Burress is. There're your major differences from the earlier game, which PIT won by 11.

Hello primetime21..

I'm glad to see you agree with the points I made in my previous message which totally refuted your earlier statements...

Now with regard to your latest statement, yes its true that Pittsburgh under head coach Bill Cowher has lost three AFC Championship games while only winning one AFC Championship game to advance to the Super Bowl only to lose to Dallas...however, at least this man has coached teams that made it to four AFC Championship games.

However, attempting to compare Steeler HC Bill Cowher's post season record with Marty Schottenheimer's post season record or for that matter compare Cowhers record to jet HC Herm Edwards record is a rather silly thing to do in my opinion.

Charger HC Marty Schottenheimer's post season record is now 5-12 straight up and 4-12-1 ATS, Herm Edwards post season record is 2-2 straight up and 2-2 ATS.....Bill Cowhers post season record is 7-8 straight up and 7-7-1 ATS.

None of these three head coaches have a winning playoff record, however, Philly HC Andy Reid's post season record is 5-4 straight up and 5-4 ATS which makes Andy Reid the ONLY head coach in the playoffs with a winning straight up and ATS record ( excluding Mike Tice's win last week in his first playoff game )....and Reid has lost the past three straight NFC Championships!

To me I'd RATHER HAVE an Andy Reid or a Bill Cowher coaching my team and walking the sidelines in a playoff game because they have proven they can get their teams to the next level with regard to AT LEAST making it to the Championship game...which is something that current playoff head coaches Tony Dungy, Herm Edwards, Jim Mora, and Mike Tice have yet to do.

Thus while you view making it to the AFC or NFC Championship game and losing as a failure, I view these coaches as having the "X-Factor"...meaning that they have the experience of "been there done that" which makes these two head coaches ( Cowher and Reid ) that much more dangerous to whomever they face in their upcoming playoff games.

take care and good luck

Deb12- In response to:

With regard to the point you made about how the jets played the first time around having a total of 12 penalties for 84 yards, if you were to look back at the jets last couple of games against San Diego and St Louis you would see that the jets totaled 15 penalties for 124 yards in those games, to me this is a sign of a VERY undisciplined team that is prone to making stupid mistakes

I appreciate your condescending approach in explaining things to ordinary folk such as myself. So, can you explain to a simpleton like myself how some of the phantom penalties in the first half of the first meeting between the Steelers and the Jets related to subsequent games? In particular, the 3rd down play where the Jets picked up a huge first down on a Lamont Jordan run and a holding penalty was called that just simply did not happen. That was a huge, huge call. So what if in the next 2 games they were called for 30 penalties, all legitamate? I have found your lame attempts at sounding objective and humble to be annoying. You love Pittsburgh and you think you are the sh_t, which is fine, just go that route and spare me the "oh shucks, been at this awhile and do pretty ok at it routine".

REML...

Correct me if I am wrong but this was your very first response to this thread...so how was I "condescending" to you in any way?

Now with regard to your thinking that I "love Pittsburgh" hence my backing of them this week against the jets, I would suggest that you bounce around this NFL board as well as the College Football board and view other written analysis that I have done...I don't favor any particular team on a week to week basis.

As a gambler I can not afford to be a "Homer" of any team as this is the fastest way to go broke, I am sorry if I offended you in any way by selecting Pittsburgh over the jets in this playoff game...but hey...its just my opinion and as such you can either take it or leave it.

take care and good luck

Deb12- If you read my post from today entitled "Jets fans begging you to listen" you will see that I feel Pittsburgh will win in a blowout. I just did not agree with your explaination of the penalties in the first game. I have read your other posts and I know you can not afford to be homer in wagering, you just seem to lather it on when it comes to defending or arguing picks involving the Steelers. I hope you lose your bet and the Jets win outright!! (hehe, we know that is not going to happen.):toast:

cowher had a 1-3 record in his first 4 playoff games, and edwards has a 2-2 record in his first 4 playoff games. cowher is a good coach, but hasnt really proven himself to be a great big game coach.

And saying that coaches like reid and cowher have the X factor after having consistently losit the "big game" is hilarious. They are good coaches, that LACK the X factor. Parcells, gibbs, jimmy johnson, bellichek all have the X factor.
