For friends it's every Thursday they square up even if it's 10$ and if they don't then they are done. For me it's a a little different. It is a gray area but that's how it goes. If I want to roll over but he wants to collect, well then I pay. If I demand to be paid I get paid

Paying a $10 figure IMHO is the Biggest joke I've heard in a Very long time. That would tell me ( with Over 30 years in the business ) that the Local is small time.

on another note, back a couple of years ago... had a guy that was betting small, ( $20-25 a game ) the settle figure was $250, but if he had won $100 or so and needed it... I would meet up with him.
Never on my end ( meaning if he owed $100-$249 ) I would just carry it over.
anyway one week he was up $99, he calls and says when do I get paid ?? I said well it's only at $99, do you "Need" it ? he says Yes, and says well only because he is going to take some time off with Gambling.
So when a guy " NEEDS" $99, that tells me he doesn't have money to pay if he loses. I close his account.
I get a call 5 days later and he asks for me to re-open his account... LOL

Told him then why did you say you were taking time off and needed the $99. He said he didn't mean for a long time. Ha

I believe I was right, and that he was just trying to take a shot... a small one, but still

anyway... my point was that your Local sounds a little Tight. Even if a guy has a Total of a $100 Credit limit, and loses $10 or $20... I wouldn't waste my time or the Gas for that kind of money

It's better to just settle on demand. No pre-defined settle figures, just either side asks for their money when they feel like it. Of course, it's takes years to build that kind of relationship, but it's awesome to play that way with a couple guys you trust.

I could see how on demand could work with a select few but I feel like having some rules in place takes the personal aspect out of it and makes it less likely anyone will get taken for serious $. I've rolled it over sometimes if near the settle amount both ways, but most times we would settle if over the figure even if by the time we actually met it was back below...for example I am up ~6 bills this week but will not see him until Tuesday but he would give me 6 even if I lost back a couple 200 between now and when i see him....then would start -200 after we settled....

That's because as long as he trusts you, he wants you with a negative balance. It affects bettors to be in the red, and they always want you in the red and not at zero in your mind.

Its called credit for a reason... You build it up most people i have dealt with dont even ask to be paid when their up and vice versa, and most of the time they go beyond their means and have to piece count it or go on a payment plan, once they establish the need for that the account gets shut off until they pay up could take months the account then gets turned back on

Now some guys want to be paid weekly those guys are treated different, if they can not pay weekly they get 2 strike rule and account becomes terminated but most clients are not weekly

Used 3 locals over the past 15 years. In college the limit was $100 pay/payout. I see the reasoning with that, but it was easier to put heat on if need be.

Last two were real books. My payout threshold has been 1k with both. 10k limit. Has worked fine. Maybe I'm old school, but I miss the days of calling in.

That would be a bigger pain in the ass then collecting from a D- post up book.

I see no purpose in doing that whatsoever .

If your trust issues are that low to where you think you have to settle on demand . You should not being dealing with that person

I would say a customer should be at "Receiver's Discretion" (which means whoever is receiving that week can decide if they want to collect or not) and then as the relationship progress you guys can slowly move the settle figure according to their weekly cashin/out.

Personally, as a player or book, you want to be at a very low settle figure until you know if the other person is worth a fuck.

After you figure out they are worth a fuck than settle figure should usually be around your max per game, if you are betting 500 a game than it should be about 500 a week. Dime a game, a dime a week. Some can do 2X max per game but that is just a local or player preference which can be negotiated but generally I say its just max per game.

I mean, you should want to meet your guys, player or book, every few weeks or so, just so you can shoot the shit and get a feel for how they doing cause relationship and trust is important and can corrode after time.

This.

My local is a friend of mine. This way it doesn't get awkward having to ask for the money either way. The rules are well-defined. When I owe, he doesn't have to ask, and vice versa. Keeps it from getting personal and weird.

If I were a bookie, any "new" guy is gonna play by rules that are very much in favor of the house. In other words if he's down any amount of money at the end of the week, and I ask for it, I expect to be paid.

If that's not okay then find another book, or post up.

Once I see what they are capable of paying and whether they are full of shit or not then we can get accustomed to some rules. As a bookie, I am never going to get into a situation where a player can get down and sit on it and me not have the right to ask to be paid. Just not gonna happen.

If I were a bookie, I'd have been doing it long enough to not give two shits if somebody wanted to deal with me or not. I'd make the rules and you can either follow or move on. If they did their homework they'd know that their money was safer with me than ANY offshore joint.

Thanks for the help, was going to be up there for the entire football season with our PPH business...I can't do business with our clients for obvious conflict of interest reasons...depending on how it goes, could be up there until the end of College Hoops too...

If I were a bookie... I agree about if they are NEW, it's pay or be paid every week

Just saying, If I was a bookie ...
