I think we should give Chach 2nd place. He deserved it. If it wasn't for the site problems, he would have won 2nd place. It's not fair that he should suffer for that. All he really had to do was copy CJI'S plays early and he would have won, but he was fair and waited. Plus, how can you not love good ol Chachi Arcola. I loved Chachi Arcola on Happy Days. Just his name alone should give him 2nd place by default. He had the best name of all the participants. Give Ivan 3rd place and give Chachi 2nd place.

Congrats to Cmogly for a good job well done. Well, at least I called it.. 3 months ago, I said the winner would end up with 34-43 units and I was right, as Cmogly finished with 37.82 units.

Posted by sick gambler on December 6th, 2003

[First, I projected that the winner will end up with anywhere from +34 to +43 units.]

_________

So that's it, give Chachi Arcola 2nd place, and give CJI 3rd place. That is the fair thing to do.

Giorgios, you have a lot of nerve bringing up that quote considering I smoked you.

As for Ivan, you know damn well who REALLY cane in 2nd place.

Maybe if I was a crony of some of the mods around here like you, or got screwed by BePanAm like you and got some pity treatment, then my issue would have been treated fairly, like it had been all season. So please don't act like you're hot shit, because I beat you and was cheated.

Thanks to Jack of Hearts for all his hard work and congrats to cmogly on the win.

ok, in all fairness, this is what I think should be done. It would not be fair to take away the 1200 from Ivan. Now I don't know how much Chachi wins, but I think it's 500. So if that's the case, why punish Chachi for this? I say give ivan his 1200, and instead of giving Chachi only 500 or so, Vwager should do the right thing and give him also 1200, but........ let him roll the extra 700 maybe 10 times to make it fair for both parties. This way, everyone is happy and all ends a great contest very well. It would be a shame to end a tremendous yearly contest this way with a problem. I am sure it won't hurt Vwager to toss in an extra 700 and allow Chachi to roll it over 10 times. Plus, it would be good for business for Vwager and people will appreciate this I am sure of Vwager.

Beat me fair and square? Ivan, you already have a gargantuan jackass reputation in the gambling forum world, so I'm not surprised to see you say that.

Let me recap... I could have simply copied your picks to ensure 2nd place the other night, but no, I played with honor and waited to see what the Edmonton-Dallas outcome was before picking the San Jose ML and side. The site was down from 10:25 to 10:35 when i tried to enter these picks.

Several times this year, nights have been cancelled because guys couldn't access the site. But now, on the most important night of the year, I get screwed. It only cost me $250, the difference between 2nd and 3rd (because I didn't post-up), but it's the principle of the matter. You weaseled an extra $500 out of it.

Keep running your mouth fool, but I came 2nd, not you. I hope you NEVER get any money out of PanAm.

chachi should get 2nd place because the site was down and he could have copied ivan's picks but was honorable to not do it, even though it is allowed and not illegal.

Ivan, I told you, even if you live till 123 years old, you will NEVER win a hockey contest. That is why you were paying 1500/1 to win it all, and that is because you will always choke and come up short. You see, if you made that bet, you would have lost. You don't have what it takes to win a contest as big as this one. I will bet you next yr that I will beat you in the hockey contest. if you want, I will even challenge you to a baseball contest, if there is one. But I want cash up front.

Hey, I did however finish in the top 20 this year in this hockey contest.

Give Chachi his 2nd place and Ivan should be DQ'D for... well.... for just being Ivan...

Congratulations on ending up in 2nd place Chachi. In my mind, you will be the 2nd place finisher, not Ivan..

Well my question from last night still remains. How could the contest be over when we still have regular season hockey games going on?

Ch don't worry, Ivan will lose his money fast & in the end you will probably do better with the cash.

I do feel for you though as I know all about the site being down at crunch time or it being 3-5 minutes fast.

I hope the format goes back to the previous season's when you had a max of 5 picks a night. This 3 a night was ridiculous.

Oh & don't think for a second if the roles were reversed, CJI wouldn't be crying bloddy murder. I'm sure most of you agree he would be.

Ok, now I'm really geting pissed off.

I'm writing V-wager.

Jack of Hearts, you've been quiet as hell over this issue. You cancelled several nights this year when guys couldn't get their picks in when the site was down. Why not now? You Ivan's pal? His only one, no doubt.

Crazy Jackass Ivan,

It was MY SPORTSMANSHIP that led to this bull shit. You know damn well I could have copied your picks. Instead I waited to play San Jose and the site, which was down most of today AGAIN, was down when I wanted to make my picks.

All year when this has happened the night was cancelled. You must be blowing JackofHearts and the General for it not to be cancelled this time. I emailed Mike at V-Wager and hopefully he'll do what's fair.

The fact you made a deposit is totally irrelevant.

It ISN'T huge. You didn't HAVE to make a deposit to participate. You only had to make one for full prize amounts.

I'm not here to make a ruling, as it is not one that I have the authority to make. I will present some facts, however, that might serve to weaken the arguement that chach has so boldly presented. First of all, I don't know Crazy Ivan from Adam, or anyone else for that matter, so I can assure you there was no sexual activity going on so you can quash that theory. Now, as we all know, the forum experienced some down time thoughout the year, and most contests were affected by these occurrences in one way or another. I have a record on file of every play that was made in this contest and I CAN say that there was ONE and ONLY ONE instance where this contest was canceled and the day's picks did not count. Not numerous times, as chach has intimated. The forum was down for about 26 hours between 9:30Am and 11:30Am on 3/19-3/20 and a ruling was made by The General that March 19 & 20 would be canceled and any picks made on 3/19 would be no action.

Here are the plays made in the March 19th picks thread that were ruled no action:
http://therxforum.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=100090022&f=428090432&m=739101621

This is the decision to cancel March 19th & 20th:
http://therxforum.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=100090022&f=428090432&m=790104621
Obviously, some people benefitted by the decision while others did not.

I had absolutely no say in the matter, although, it seemed to be a no-brainer, since the time available to make picks that day was cut by 11 hours. In this case, we're talking about 10 minutes, which left ample time beforehand to post plays as evidenced by the numerous others who were able to do so.

On a couple of occasions during the year, namely Christmas and the All-Star break, I gave all contestants the option to add make-up days to compensate for the days with no games scheduled during those time periods. I didn't have to do this, but I did and I sensed that most welcomed the opportunity. Might I also point out that I made an offer to make up the ONLY 2 days we lost in March with make-up picks on Mar 21-22. Some took me up on the offer, some did not. My records show that chach did not.
http://therxforum.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=100090022&f=428090432&m=524105621

I also show that chach made a total of 2 plays between Jan 21 and Mar 22. Totally his perogative, but it's not like he didn't have a chance to make plays. Whether he felt he had such a big lead on the others and became complacent or just didn't feel he had confidence enough in his ability to increase that lead, we can only surmise. Judging by this statement, it would appear complacency had set in, since confidence was surely plentiful. He still had cmogly to contend with, though. We all knew he wasn't going to play the waiting game forever. And of course, we all remember the huge favorite Philly Flyer plays that cost him a bundle. 'Nuff said there. In summary, the fact that the downtime was for such a short period of time cannot be used as a criteria for canceling the entire day of picks as was done in mid-March. Those who made picks should not be penalized for making their picks on time and likewise, should not be at a disadvantage if ONE person is given a chance to, in some way, make up for an opportunity lost. I have no idea what you expect me to do in this case. If V-Wager has an alternative solution, more power to you. All I know is, it's out of my hands. From my perspective, this contest is history.

By the way, I've graded a total of 12,585 plays in this contest, not to mention easily over 10,000 plays in the 3 basketball contests in the NBA forum. Someone, I can't remember who, mentioned their displeasure with not being able to make up to 5 plays/day here like they did last year. If that were the case, you probably could've added another 8000 plays overall. No big deal. I'll just spend another hour and a half a day grading. All I know is, it takes a huge effort to grade these contests, and accuracy is one of the most important ingredients. Out of all those plays mentioned, I saw very few complaints that their scores were incorrectly graded. Whether, they didn't bother checking, or had no just cause to do so I don't know. I tend to lean toward the latter. Allow me to blow my own horn here, but I challenge anyone to come forward and do a better job next year. The opportunity may very well exist. Thanks to all who showed their appreciation. Those comments really did hit home.

Jack,

First of all, I appreciated your hard work as everyone here surely did. I assume you were compensated in some way. If you weren't, you're not really in any position to complain about how much work the grading was. You volunteered. The contest could have been set up in a different way so it wouldn't be so onerous for the grader. Regardless, I couldn't have cared less about being able to post 5 plays a day.

The issue here is that the site was down at the most important time of the contest as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't matter if it was 10 minutes or not. It doesn't matter if I had all night to make the picks. It's also irrelevant that I didn't make picks for a few weeks earlier in the contest or that I made some huge favorite Flyers plays. All totally irrelevant. A precedent was set earlier in the year if the site was down.

How can you not acknowledge the fact I could have simply copied Ivan's picks to come 2nd? It's absurd I get screwed for being an honorable player.

How the hell is Ivan penalized if the night was cancelled or if I was allowed to make up for an opportunity lost? True, it's ONE person, but at that time, only 7 guys were in contention, and only 6 players had any business even posting their picks.
