Gotta be 8 RT....first four games are the Sugar, Orange, Fiesta and Rose Bowls. No way in hell the 1 & 2 ranked teams don't play in one of those bowls, that'll piss off a few hundred million sports nuts, not to mention the Bowl folks. And if I'm a college coach, no way in hell I play one more game than the other team. Yeah, the pros do it, but they play a 16 game regular schedule to begin with, the wild card games were added for the money, and the players get paid for those games, college athletes, last time I checked, aren't getting playoff checks, lol.

Heard a good debate at lunch recently about going to a six team playoff. One argued that top 6 conference champions should be involved. The Big 5 champs plus one other conference. The big question...who would be the other conference? What about a surprise independent team having a worthy year.

I don't know what the right answer is but fun to listen to a bunch of old armchair friends go at it. They finally told us we needed to leave we had been there so long. Waitress happy though...big one!

I didn't know you could buy drinks in Bama before 6 PM, LOL. Just kidding Clover, but if RT can shout "let's go with 64 teams," then I say phuck it, let's go lottery.....draw the names out of a new fishbowl champions trophy!

LOL, funny thing is, they were saying that was what was gonna happen to the Buckeyes last night. I saw a lot of Ducks breathing pretty hard in that fourth quarter.

I just have one correction:

Michigan State and Florida State actually tied for 5th in the AP poll. Small but meaningful distinction.:toast:

MadPicker...don't know what it is about Bama (other than we need a defensive backs coach) but they have laid an egg in the Sugar Bowl of late. Yes, I know who coaches Tide DBs.

MP, have you heard that LSU is trying to hire away our defensive coordinator? Miles has been in contact with Kirby Smart for its open defensive coordinator position. Guess they will offer him more than the $1.35 million he's now making. Would hate to lose Kirby unless he got a head coaching job. He's done a great job for Bama the past seven years.

yea I have heard. It's whether he wants to wait to take over sabans empire or go to lay and wait two years for HC job somewhere

Got to believe if the Georgia job opens in the near future, he would jump at the opportunity.

No doubt if Richt retires...Smart would be a leading candidate for the job.

Also, if South Carolina came knocking...maybe?

Dont want him personally. Richt as much as dislike him as a coach is really getting close with his recent hires. The key to compete and keep your instate studs is create a NFL jr program. Pruitt has made huge strides. Bringing in Schotty gives a these pro style players a will and want to come to UGA. If Bobo does well at CSU, I would think he would be the front runner as the heir to the throne.....which I think was all about the motive of the move. Just to get some HC experience. Risk=Reward.

These Eason kid better be a stud, because I am sick of hearing about him....and we have a whole year yet before he can enroll....which I think if he is a success Richt could go out on top.

You could be right Mr. A. I think former Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain after a short and successful career proved if you move on as a head coach and prove yourself....another bigger opportunity might be waiting. How Jim does at Florida I don't know...but like the fact he has the chance.

Bama's Smart knows he has to branch out sooner or later....unless he's waiting on Saban to retire to the lake. That could be a few more years.

I've promoted this guy on several occasions because I believed Mark Hudspeth is one of the best hidden gems in college football. He took over a Louisiana Lafayette team that had one winning season since 1995 and has gone 9-4, 9-4, 9-4, 9-4 with three straight bowl wins. Louisiana has bumped him to over a million...which is a huge salary in the Sun Belt Conference trying to keep him. Got to know some of the big boys are taking notice.

Thanks Albatross...you are loyal to theRX and a good football guy...need more like you my friend.

GS, unusual to see a final top 25 list without Oklahoma in it. (Probably gotten Stoops attention)

Sooners have hired East Carolina's Lincoln Riley as its new offensive coordinator. He will also coach quarterbacks
for Oklahoma. Before going to East Carolina, Riley was either receivers or running backs coach at Texas Tech.
Other than that, just don't know much about the guy.

Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Nebraska....all in the same year. The mighty have fallen.

I firmly believe Texass will be a tough game every game next season. OU, got to wait and see on what Bobby does with the D coaching staff. Gonna take Harbaugh a couple of years, and I have absolutely ZERO feel for the cornshuckers, I really quit following them when TO left the HC job......it's an age kinda thing, lol.

Back in the day...I use to love watching Texas vs Oklahoma, Nebraska vs Oklahoma and Ohio State playing Michigan. Those games always seemed to mean something. No so much of late.

Arkansas has been absent from the top 25 list the past few years. I look for that to change next year. The Hogs showed great improvement from year one to year two under Bielema. He's got the players to continue that trend.

Quarterback and a solid group of starters returning.

a couple of notable coaching moves this week

1) Arkansas OC who really turned their offense around this year has left for Pitt. surprising
2) Bama DL coach Steele gone for LSU to be their DC. addition by subtraction for tide imho
3) Bama LB coach Thompson leaving again for another SEC job, this time to the plains. one of the great recruiters in ncaaf
4) Ed Orgeron back in ncaaf coaching the DL at LSU. from interim HC to position coach? his reputation follows him...

Had wonder whatever happened to Big Ed Orgeron.

I'm thinking LSU really down graded the defensive coordinator position going from Chavis to Steele.

Steele is a good football man or Saban wouldn't have brought him back after he was fired as Clemson's
defensive coordinator. LSU might just be looking at a situation similar to Auburn with Johnson. We
shall see.

Yes he can recruit GS.

He left Houston Nutt enough good players that Nutt went 9-4 each of his first two years. When Nutt had
to rely on his own recruits the record tumbled and he was fired.

I agree, Big Ed is a good hire for LSU.

Absolutely but then again Chavis is the best in college football so any change would have been a downgrade. really thought they would hire up Bob Shoop from State Penn. Pittsburgh guy with SEC experience (was DC at Vandy). Just not a fan of Steele but with having Ed-O next to him that should help the transition. Steele might have been the worst head coach in power-5 history if not for Turner Gil :)
