"Peter Gabriel

Some of my favorite songs of all time.

I got no means to show identification
I got no papers show you what I am
You'll have to take me just the way that you find me
What's gone is gone and I do not give a damn
Empty stomach, empty head
I got empty heart and empty bed
I don't remember"

UB,
Did you know that there isn't 1 cymbal crash on that whole cd/album?...All drums. One of the best, and most original, compilations of all time.

Father Tiresias, welcome to The Rx.

All three volumes are great, i like just about everything he has done.

Saw him in concert in Atlanta, it was an incredible show. Probably the best i have ever seen.

And yes, Huey Lewis really, really sucks.

Warren Zevon

Who is dying a slow, and painful death. But, dealing with it in an incredible way.

Facing Mortality With Mischief Rather Than Tears

Very good read.

The dying cancer patient with a dark, dry wit met one of his doctors for breakfast last week and handed over his two most recent CDs, one titled "Life'll Kill Ya" and the other "My Ride's Here." In his familiar baritone, Warren Zevon explained the gifts to the physician: "These are my last two albums. Maybe now you'll understand that eerie acceptance of death you keep asking me about." Zevon chuckled at the account and then paused to catch his breath. Last month, doctors told the 55-year-old musician that he has inoperable cancer in both lungs. The prognosis is bleak, with his time measured in weeks or perhaps months. Zevon is the rocker who defined the volatile edge of the famed singer-songwriter scene of 1970s Los Angeles with his wild, vodka-fueled living and songs of morbid humor, and now he finds himself facing the very unfunny fact of his own mortality.

A bit of the piece.

Thanks for the Zevon article. The world will lose a truly great singer, songwriter and musician we he passes. From Lawyers, Guns & Money to Sentimental Hygiene to his last album, Life will Kill Ya, his music always has had a way of cheering me up when things get weird. I saw him in concert (and spoke to him afterwords) on his Learning to Flinch tour. Just him, a piano, and a 12-string guitar. Still one of my all time favorite shows.

One of Warrens last songs:

Well, I went to the doctor
I said, "I'm feeling kind of rough"
He said, "I'll break it to you, son
Your $hit's f~cked up."
I said, "my $hit's f~cked up?
Well, I don't see how--"
He said, "The $hit that used to work then--
Well, It won't work now."

I had a dream
Ah, shucks, oh, well
Now it's all f~cked up
It's shot to hell

Yeah, yeah, my $hit's f~cked up
It has to happen to the best of us
The rich folks suffer like the rest of us
It'll happen to you

That amazing grace
Sort of passed you by
You wake up every day
And you start to cry
Yeah, you want to die
But you just can't quit
Let me break it on down:
It's the f~cked up $hit" -- My $hits F~cked Up

Saw it too, great show. The guy is just too cool. A lot like Randy Newman in concert.

You are right, it will be a huge loss.
He is dealing with it exactly like you would expect to.

"I feel the opposite of regret. I was the hardest-living rock on my block for a while. I was a malfunctioning rummy for a while and running away for a while. Then for 18 years I was a sober dad of some amazing kids. Hey, I feel like I've lived a couple of lives--and now when people listen to the music they'll say, 'Hey maybe the guy wasn't being so morbid after all.' "

Its funny, but I might have been able to stomach Neil Young to this day had I not had a roommate who played him 20 hours/day!! I really learned to hate ol' Neil. Im sorry but Neil’s voice is similar to Geddy Lee’s in the sense that you either love it or hate it. I fall in the later category. But it wasn't just the repetitiveness of the Neil Young that drove me to the edge of sanity, it was that on the rare occasion he wasn't playing him he was blasting Morrissey & The Smiths!

Talk about hell...

Glad to see everybody has good taste in music!!!
icon_biggrin.gif

My taste is kind of stretchy, the last 2 cd's i bought in the last week were "The most famous hits: Benny Goodman:The Album" and "The least worst of Type O Negative"...That'll give you an idea...
Anyway, i'm basically a rocker, starting with the music my mother used to listen (Elvis, Bill Hailey...), going into the 60's and 70's with the music my older brothers listened (Beatles, Zeppelin, Queen), then being an 80's teenager, wich means for me MADONNA will always rule and is headed for the music equivalent or mount Olympus or Valhala...but then i got into the BIG HAIR bands *sighs* (wich got me wearing leather up to the day) then the 90's came with the grungy stuff and i almost lost hope in music...until i dicovered my dark side (wich actually just fell sleep for a while, i was a HUGE Bauhaus fan) and entered again in the pits of goth and doom metal...But i won't touch the dial if Britney starts playing!!. Since i don't think the 00's, or 0's or whatever this decade is going to be called has done anything so far, i'll stop there, although i like this new band called Evanescense
