If you go back to 1999. SD is 8-10 as a favorite. While not good I wouln't say it's horrible. Going back to 1992 is pretty much worthless because every single person on the team now didn't even play back then. Not to mention that they are harldly ever the favorite. 19 times in 5 and a half years isn't very many. Basically they are the fav 1 in every 5 games.

But then my counter would have to be that the fact that OAK is 2-5 and SD is 4-3 also has relatively nothing to do with THIS game...
This is not even a top 3 play for me, but I am debating whether to make it a play, but if someone can persuade me to stay off it, I will...Seems a little too easy to jump all over SD here, which always inclines me to "go the other way"...

I have to admit, I like your style, I like your angles, I like your logic and I like your approach to looking at games...
I think you have successfully talked me out of betting Oakland...It would've been a tiny play anyway, so if Oak does cover, I won't be mad in the least, because in reality, I cannot trust my hard-earned $$$ on this team anyway...They stink this year, period...
However, my gut is screaming at me that OAK is the play, so despite a strong, solid argument to take SD, my gut simply won't allow me to bet SD...Since I won't bet the spread here, I wish you Good Luck and hope that you and all the SD backers win this one...
I really like that "off from the bookie" plus/minus number you have there...I have never seen that before and I will incorporate that number into my database...Very interesting angle...
It sparked my curiosity, so I just looked at the 2000 Baltimore season against the spread, and what makes that +136 even more impressive is that they were a favorite 13 out of 16 of the regular season games, and a BIG FAV a few times, while SD is building a high plus this year so far being strictly an UNDERDOG in all of those games...
I guess I am used to seeing this Chargers team under Marty Schottenheimer get off to fast starts every year, but then they quickly fade into oblivion once November hits...
Maybe it's different this year with a motivated Brees (trying to keep his job) and with Tomlinson reaching superstar status, carrying this team...We'll see...First time out as a Favorite against a terrible Raiders squad...

You did mention that Vegas has lines for ALL of the games for all 17 weeks made before the season starts, and I DO RECALL seeing that info once, and was intrigued by that concept of handicapping all the games before the season even started...
So what I was wondering is, do you have the lines for this year, released before the season starts?...
Or even more importantly, is there somewhere online where that info is accessible?...
I believe a tout service trying to get my business sent me that info many years ago, before the season started, and I had forgotten Vegas did that until you brought it up in this thread...
