No, I was a Machinist's Mate, slang, blackfoot, snipe, knucklebuster, grease monkey. I could have volunteered for UDT/Seal, frogman, but after seeing what they went through, no thanks. I made E4 three times, only to get busted down, my petty officer crow taken away every time. You name it, drunk and disorderly, threatening a naval officer, illegal entry to a naval installation, assualt on a shipmate, assualt on a SP. I drank, fought and fucked, like a sailor was supposed to do. I was basically a street punk that graduated to street punk college in the Navy. We did have frogmen, and they were some buff dudes. I used to lift with them in the torpedo room when underway. I respected them, but understood, I did not have the required discipline, then soon, the navy record to join them. I still remained the hardest worker, in my division, the had more qualification sigs than anybody else. Being an asset was the only way I made it through, or they would have shitcanned me.
