Aversion to violence and aggression??? In Israel's short history, they've had to fight like crazy to keep Israel, and done a good job at it. They have mandatory military service. And per capita their military has to be the best in the world. Not sure what aversion you're talking about, but quite frankly it would be nice if everyone were averse to violence and aggression....the world would be a much better place. I think the US, prior to Dubya, was averse to violence and aggression.

I agree that with the Zionist movement came a reduced aversion to violence among those who chose to live in Isreal and defend their homeland. But I think Sharon is about the biggest hardliner of all Isreali Heads of State so far. Netanyahu and Barak would never have killed the Hamas leader the way Sharon did. Instead, they were denouncing violence publicly and pushing for negotiations.

And of the 50 or 60 Jewish folks I have personally known (outside of Israel), they were all averse to violence. In fact, in many cases it was when they asserted their position on violence when I had to ask if they were Jewish or not. Usually my suspicion turned out to be true.

Being against violence in an overall sense is a logical absurdity IMO because every species on this planet has used violence when either they or their young were being mortally threatened. If you are content with modern American life you must be in favor of violence because it is precisely the threat (and previous use) of violence which has provided the necessary environment to make such a life possible.

every single jewish person in the world can't be succesfull but as a whole the family structure of a typical Jewish household and the shared history and tribulations throughout time most notably what happened during WWII help to bring a peoples together. not to mention that Jewish people ae loyal to their own help.All those that knock Jews for favoring their own kind should take a page out of their book. I don't agree with the fundamentalists at times however. How do you think other religions such as Islam should respond to the fact that a once shared lineage has become what it is today?

Nothing wrong with sticking together IMO. Catastrophic events like the Holocaust tend to pull people together so no one should be surprised when they favor their own kind.

My problem, though, is hypocrisy. Typically they say they are not favoring anyone when in fact they are. Just come out and say "yes, I favor my own kind because my family got severed during the Holocaust and I want to make sure such a tragedy will never happen again". To that no one could possibly have any objection -- most understandable thing in the world. But to pretend there is no distinction between Jews and non-Jews and to suggest that EVERYONE should follow their ideals because it is objectively the right way to go -- now that's deception. When someone regularly uses deception on me to try to manipulate my values, I take out the heavy artillery

. Just like I can't rightfully blame them for self-protection, they can't rightfully blame me for upholding values like honesty and openness. There is an ongoing battle here for spiritual territory and it will continue for quite some time.

I know what is going on in this case Darryl. I was just trying to be extra nice. It is my belief that we are all being manipulated and they are just the most obvious example of this. The thing that I find incredoulous is what you mentioned, the double standard. On one hand..."stamp out the extremists"...on the other hand it is our "God given right" ?!?!?!?? WOW! What would happen if scrolls were found similiar to the Nag Hammadi scrolls that disputed the old testament....would they voluntarilly give up the "Holy Land". This is why at least a little something has to be given up now. It seems as if they are waiting the other side out..hoping that a whole generation dies and then the resistance will be lessened. IF you do not change the education of those you want to see your side at an early age they are going to repeat the process for who knows how many ganerations.
