It is a good question but I lean the other way. Not sure his stats warrant it.

But the kid played with a ton of heart, and the big moments he had with the Patriots will put him in the Foxboro HOF.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan, but I don't think he's got the numbers...

Like Viejo said, his Playoff numbers and clutch performances in the biggest games are only surpassed by the greatest, Jerry Rice.

Additionally you have to consider the position he played - slot receiver, a position that Billy B put on the map with Troy Brown, Wes Welker, and by far the best of them all, Edelman.

He was not a "wide receiver". Name me a better slot receiver in the history of the game.

Absolutely, Hall of Fame.

Welker's numbers are better in every category

That's where numbers can be deceptive. Edelman was the far better player. Welker and Troy Brown would take dives after their catches over the middle. Edelman never did that unless he was hurting. His moves after the catch left Welker in the dust.

And Edelman's Playoff catches were special. Welker lost us a Super Bowl with a key end of game drop. Edelman was a SB MVP and that game wasn't even his best Playoff game. I would say that was the Atlanta SB.

I read this stat in the Globe today. Can anyone check how this stat matches up with other receivers?

Of Edelman's 738 career receptions 454 resulted in first downs. Am I crazy thinking that ratio is special?

I'll take Edelman any day over Welker. Not even close. Stats need context.
