Forget ArgueMent Joint

Baker has been doing this constantly all year
he is a complete idiot

He has pitchers hit with the game on the line, when a pinch-hitter is CLEARLY in order

TIME AND TIME again

The way he aligns defenses, etc...he is a fucking tool and hopefully will be gone soon

:suomi:

Must be a lot different than when he took over the 67-95 team and went 88-74 for the Cubs.

Have yet to get an answer to this ZZZ, so maybe you can help. It's no fun to argue when no one can answer this simple question:

What has this team done to upgrade their roster since Dusty arrived?

Not sure why you think I like to argue as I have never heard of you...but thank you for following my posts.

I think I answered my own question though...not a single post has been made answering my question about why this team should be any better than before he arrived.

This team may have given up on him and it is his time to go...I'm not doubting that. But the false sense of this team being any good was from the over achieving he brought in his first 2 seasons.

This team was 67-95 before he arrived...and has not made any major moves to improve while St. Louis and Houston continue to make moves to get better.

Does Baker suck? Probably...but he has proven he can win with talent.

What has this GM proven?

ClipJoint, I agree with you. I am sorry that no one acknowledges your posts...they just seem to make too much sense I guess. BUT, the Cubs suck and that is the end result. Everyone is angry about that, I'm sure. We can all agree that the Cubs suck. tulsa

I do not disagree with your point about the front office doing little to help. And while I know it is very easy to armchair QB and second guess a manager/coach in any sport, he makes some decisions that defy logic and more importatnly, cost the Cubs wins.

Just like I do not put too much stock in managers having to take all the blame for a sub par performing team, I also give very little credit to Baker for his teams' record. They win because they have pretty decent pitching and hit in spurts.

Dusty just makes some decisions that keep everyone scratching their heads, balls and anything else that might itch.

I agree 100% that they suck. But it seems everyone has forgotten that this team sucked right before Baker arrived...they sucked much worse than they do now and they have made no personnel moves. :toast:

I hear ya...my only point is he made those same strange decisions with the Giants (and won) as well as the Cubs (in his first 2 seasons and improved a terrible team).

His decisions made him look like a great manager when he had talent and guys buying into him...now he has been on a team with very little talent for 3 years and they are not as excited or buying into him like they did when he first arrived.

Talent wins games and championships...there are very few managers that really make a difference. Baker isn't one of them. Bobby Cox is one of the very few that can actually make a difference regardless of personnel.

Cubs have way better players than they had pre-Baker in 2002. Not even close. And a much bigger payroll.

Cubs have quit on Baker. This season is an embarrassment. The roster is just as good if not better this year than last two years. Can't you blame a manager when the players quit? Not to mention his in-game decisions are horrid. If you watched the Cubs daily, you'd know what I'm talking about.

Yep! It's one thing to absolutely suck with a crappy team & no money, but they have no excuses this year......well, except just being the Cubs.

Huh?

I think they would give most of their lineup to have the 2002 lineup with Patterson, Alou, McGriff, Sosa compared to the scabs in the middle of that lineup now. 4 players with power compared to just Ramirez and Lee?

The same starting rotation PLUS Clement and a much better bullpen in 2002.

Is that the same 2002 roster are you looking at?

Starting Pitchers:
Prior
Wood
Zambrano
Clement
Lieber

Bullpen:
Alfonseca
Benes
Borowski
Farnsworth
Flash Gordon

Just to name a few...compare that to what is there now.

That team won 67 games before Baker arrived. That team (minus McGriff) came back the next year with Baker and won 21 more games. Was he just smarter back then? Did players just believe in him more?

You said they have a much better team now...where do you see them as better roster wise?

You win CLIP. That was a pretty good team that season. Maybe some of the blame does need to go to the GM.

I think you are right that Baker needs to go...I just wanted to point out to all these guys putting all the blame on Baker that he has done pretty well in 3 seasons for what he has to work with.

The other teams in their division have gone out and made HUGE moves to get better each season (St. Louis and Houston). The Cubs have actually gotten worse.

But like I said, I agree with you that Baker should go...I just think the GM should be gone as well. Baker seems to do well rejuvenating a team so I would like to see what he can do in Los Angeles.

I disagree on the GM. On the whole I think the moves he's made have been very very good. He practically stole two of the best players in ther league with Ramirez and Lee. Can't fault him on the Nomar (and Murton) move, just didn't work out as well as it should have. Barrett a good pickup. Can't fault him for signing Maddux. GM has done a solid job and he's one of the hardest working in the biz. I think he's a keeper. Too early to judge a GM after only a few years, manager is a different animal.

Just my opinion but Casey Stengel could not win with the players that have been taking the field on this club. Injuries etc. have made this ball club very average.
