love torrents... have a pc hooked up to my lcd tv and just remote desktop into it from my laptop, start the torrents going and then they show up in media center when they're done. nothing like watching 1080p bluray rips, i'll never go to the theatre again.
Sounds like a nice setup. I'm definitely heading that direction. I'm loving these torrents. I haven't rented a movie in 6 months. I just get them on the web right after their theatrical release.

would an ISP purposely lower my connection speeds for downloading torrents? I just got turned on to this and dowloaded about 6 movies in the past two weeks. Tonite... the last move reduced to a crawl and took hours to complete.

I did a speed test and my d/l speeds are just crap all of a sudden. Perhaps ISP upset I used too much bandwidth?

if you use utorrent (and possibly other good torrent software) you should be able to select a setting in the programs config that'll encrypt the data so your isp can't tell it's torrenting. make sure the port you're using is forwarding properly as well (again utorrent has a built-in function for this, not sure about other software).

I have uTorrent open and I can't find encryption. I'll search net for a guide

Options -> preferences -> bittorrent -> protocol encryption = forced

there are very good guides on the net though - so if this doesn't solve it do check out the utorrent site as there are some smart folks there. what ISP do you have?

i don't seed after i've downloaded - i know it's a dick move, but sharing the files you download with thousands of people seems like it'd increase the likelihood of one being busted.

gonna go with 100%....just by surfing the net.

this is actually far from the truth - i've had my netbook for about 6 months now, have downloaded easily over a TB from btjunkie torrents and have no viruses (don't even run "live" virus protection, just scan once every two weeks or so).

Cox Communications in san diego. I reset my wireless router today which I probably should have tried in the first place. That seems to have sped things up again. I also changed my settings to "forced" as per your note. I am perplexed why this would be set at "disabled" as the default setting. Seems like most, if not everyone using this application would prefer encryption. Know what I mean? I wonder if there is a downside to the "forced" setting.

that's pretty cool - never run into that technique before.

Do be careful to have your antivirus software running though, as without the ratings that torrent sites have it'll be impossible to know if there are viruses attached to any of the files.

this is very useful for finding specific tracks & rarities though... just found a few things I hadn't seen before.

...Of course, I also did not actually download any of them - but good to know they're there

Rarely will a torrent work with iTunes. Some of the best software for only reading and accepting legitimate files (bad news for all my downloaded movies). Seems much more strict for movies than songs.

In terms of searches, I used thepiratebay.org for over a year but isohunt.com encompasses even those searches. As said, I've literally never come up short in a search.

In one day, I had the entire series of The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome, The Office, & Six Feet Under all at the very least queued up. In less than 5 days, I had them all.

Great success!
