people who sell picks are vultures who prey on people not as smart as themselves. It doesnt mean the sellor has much of a clue. The people giving you crap over the big fave moneyline parlays are not wrong."
Generally ML parlays are square plays. Not only do they take a large favorite but they make it supposedly more profitable by parlaying it with other "safe" plays. The reason most people play favorites is because they don't know what it takes for the dog to beat a favorite. Therefore books shade the line away from the favorite toward the dog, leading the favorites to not pay as much.
However, if one chooses favorites on the ML using reasoning these parlays can be quite profitable. Examples of using reasoning would be a home team trying to win a spot in the playoffs. Another example would be a team that has more talent that needs a win in a particular game to avoid not being picked by the NCAA selection team. Another would be a team trying to do well in a conference tournament.
To say that ML parlays should be criticized only tells part of the story. It would be like saying "if you bet only favorites you're going to lose in the long run" when in reality if you bet favorites with good reason you can turn a profit.
