"The World Health Organization’s chief has warned that "the worst is yet ahead of us" in the coronavirus pandemic. The WHO director-general did not specify why he believes the outbreak could get worse, but he and others have previously pointed to the likely spread of the illness through Africa, where health systems are less developed. A hilltop town in Spain that cut itself off from the world a month ago has reported zero cases of coronavirus. Drastic measures were enforced in the fortress town of Zahara de la Sierra, in Cadiz, Andalusia, when Spain went into a state of emergency on 14 March – and they appear to be working. Earlier, two cats in the US tested positive for the coronavirus, becoming the first household pets in the country to be confirmed positive for the virus after at least one tiger at the Bronx Zoo was found to be carrying strains of the virus. At least one of the cats was experiencing mild symptoms, per the CDC.

I wonder if a pet sneezing on a person can transmit the virus.

And how did these animals get it in the first place?

Did the virus not originate from an animal source in Wuhan?

All these animals are felines & in NY, eh?

Thanks for sharing that, Captain Lee.

Rational "fear" can lead to proper preparation (e.g. mask wearing). Too bad the USA was ill prepared for what has already happened. A little fear would have avoided the far worse outcome that has arrived & is coming & may even have averted the need for the extreme economic shutdown. As the example elsewhere provides evidence for.

“Yes, there is very much a potential of a surge come the fall, and that’s one of the things that we are working very hard to have in place: the surveillance that we need, the testing that we need, the contact tracing in our communities that we need,” she said. “But we need to do everything that we can now to try and stamp it out as much as possible so we at least have a fighting chance when we’re going into the fall.”

"Do a "snap opening" of small business and see if the former clientele rush in ! It wont happen, people are social distanced conditioned, fearful and mistrusting of the government, social media and each other right now. The bodies are still going to the morgue and will be for a while yet. Open up sports events, sit ten seats apart, the athletes, some wearing masks under their football helmets etc. .....does it make sense.? Go to the restaurant or bar and have your waiter wearing a mask ? The outfielders in baseball are social distanced but what about the umpire, back catcher and batter wearing masks. It will take a lot of time to change the way things are, to get consumer confidence back to get the public to trust the government(s) again. I guess the manufacturing sector could start up again, it would provide jobs but consumer spending and tourism is halted for now."
