The playoffs have nothing to do with getting the best 4 teams. Its about ratings. Period. They will do whatever they can to manipulate the matchups to get maximum ratings.
If you go strictly by the rankings, nothing should change.....unless you replace OSU with PSU. Washington is #4. They stomped the team ranked #8. Penn St was ranked below them, and beat a comparably ranked team in a close game. What happened this weekend that would make you drop Washington? Don't give me some BS about schedule strength. If that was an issue, they would have been ranked lower before this week. Their schedule didn't change this week, if they were to be punished for a weak OOC schedule then it would have happened already.
The NCAAB committee puts emphasis on how a team performs in their last 10 games, approx the last 1/3 of the season. Why wouldn't the NCAAF committee do the same? I hear about how Penn St got whipped by Michigan. That was Game 4 in September, they are a completely different team now. Michigan lost to Iowa, PSU stomped Iowa. They beat OSU. They beat Temple who is ranked. They stomped Mich St, the same team OSU struggled with.
Michigan has ZERO chance at the playoffs. NONE.
Let's look at OSUs schedule. They beat Oklahoma, but geezus the committee is treating this as if they beat the Miami Hurricanes from 25 years ago. Its Oklahoma, a solid team but good grief Houston beat the shit out of them too.
Common Opponents:
Rutgers: OSU 58-0, PSU 39-0
Indiana: OSU 38-17, PSU 45-31
Maryland: OSU 62-3, PSU 38-14
Mich St: OSU 17-16, PSU 45-12
Michigan: OSU 30-27, PSU 10-49
The Michigan game sticks out, and it happened in game 4. The reverse happened with Mich St, OSU almost lost while PSU smoked them. These games are a wash.
Did I mention Penn St BEAT Ohio St??
So we have a team that won the conference championship, beat them Head to Head, have the same record against common opponents with each blowing out a team that the other didn't.
The ONLY thing OSU has is this mysterious "better" schedule and 1 less loss. Oklahoma, Tulsa, and Bowling Green. Penn St played Kent, Pitt, and Temple. Collectively, I can make a case that Penn ST played an equal OOC schedule as Ohio St. Tulsa and Bowling Green are dogshit defensive teams. Oklahoma is no great shakes either. Temple can play some defense, and while Pitt gives up lot that offense can score. Kent and BG are 2 bad MAC teams.
The Top 4 should be Alabama, Clemson, Washington, Penn St. There is no way Michigan should even sniff the Top 4, and Ohio St has benefitted by the propaganda machine that is ESPN. THEY want OSU strictly for ratings.
My prediction? Washington drops, Penn St gets the last spot, and Ohio St will get an underserved spot at #2/#3.
What an embarrassing charade. I can't wait to hear the pure unadulterated bullshit that comes out of the collective mouths of these asshole committee members. I would rather have the BCS rankings. At least those were transparent. These rankings?? Its whatever these fucks decide they should be. Fuck Ohio St and Urban Meyer, I hope those pricks lose.
