Torre loves Pierre? That franchise was ready to keep him on the bench for 75% of the games going into the season. He was the odd man out in that outfield entering the season. Pierre openly expressed his frustration. If Torre loved him so much he'd have been given a starting spot like he was promised when he came off the DL, because that offense was stagnant as hell and Andru Jones became the worst hitter on the planet.
As far as the Mets go...how are they similar at all? They're not. Mets had seasoned veterans sprinkled in with stars and no one was performing up to par. You're really comparing the situations and youth of those teams?
That's ridiculous. Sorry, but I don't consider these players on the Mets to have 'woken up' and realized their talent: Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Easley, Schneider, Chavez, Wright.
Those guys are for the most part veterans (even Reyes and Wright), and they started playing better, especially Delgado.
Dodgers are still in the same position they were earlier in the year - .500ish. Their pitching's saved them. Make no mistake, if Loney, Martin, Ethier, and Kemp pick up their play the rest of the year, it'll be because they're good, AND because they just acquired one of the best hitters of our time, who, I'd venture to say, provides just a little bit of protection in that lineup.
