'NYT' Sunday Preview: Madeleine Albright Can Leg-Press 400 Pounds

By E&P Staff

Published: April 20, 2006 1:35 PM ET
NEW YORK In an interview in the The New York Times Magazine that will appear this coming Sunday, Madeleine Albright reveals, among other things, that even at 68, she works out three times a week "and I can leg-press up to 400 pounds." This follows a discussion of how she does not expect to re-marry, partly because, as she says, "I'm intimidating, don't you think?"

Another highlight of the Q & A is her commentary on the fact that her father, Josef Korbel, a Czech diplomat who became dean of the school of international relations at the University of Denver, happened to train two future secretaries of state. The other was Condoleezza Rice. "What I like about her," Albright says, "is that she continues to give credit to the fact that my father had a big influence on her."

When Korbel died in 1977, Rice sent a pot of flowers in the shape of a piano, and Albright's mother referred to her as "your father's favorite student."

Nowadays Albright is not a fan of certain aspects of Rice's work. She declares that the Iraq invasion "may end up being one of the worst disasters in American foreign policy." She does not believe Saddam was an "imminent threat" and advises, "You can't go to war with everybody you dislike."

The magazine on Sunday also unveils a new serial, by Scott Turow, and a new comic, by Jaime Hernandez.

LMAO Doc. I just pissed myself from laughing so hard.....

Yeah, I had to get a little Gibby on here. No way his record will ever go down. I just wish I could have seen him more.

Tell your wife she'll get some of this prime, Alabama blacksnake soon enough.....

You two fuckerz are hilarious!

I don't know who that pitcher is that you all are talking about, I am a baby.

I grew up with my idols being The 80's Mets... Doc Gooden, Strawberry, etc... now they are all coke-heads LOL!

I think my all-time favs are Roberto Clemente (Viva Puerto Rico!) and Sandy Koufax. I would let JMoney or Doc for that matter, bang my girlfriend for a Sandy Koufax rookie card.

Clemente with the best arm I've ever seen .... he would spin and throw ropes to 3rd base that were in a different warp speed

ends right at 3000 on a hit off Madlock and dies in a plane wreck ... thank goodness he got to 3000 as he the best RF I've seen

BD, no disrespect meant......but you really don't want to let me bang your girlfriend for a Koufax rookie card. Trust me, she just wouldn't be right afterwards......:missingte

Don't remember watching Clemente play, but have heard a lot of stories as well. B, I'm about the same as you--can talk any sports from early '80's on. Love talking the old stuff too, but unfortunately can not remember much past that.

This will tell you how young I am guys....

Favorite player I've ever watched is Willie McGee. He still comes back to Busch with Musial, Gibson, Pujols, Ozzie, Brock etc etc and Willie always gets the loudest cheers. Always a fan favorite.

Not a big fan of the Mad Hungarian.

I do love it that he hates the Cubbies so much though.

A sad story man. I really think he would have broke a lot of records IMO.

LOL! Once you go black you neva go back.. but hey once you get porked by da great white ya always stay tight ;) gotta keep them on the bench bro! ja ja!

Yeah I am an 80's product. My pops was a big BB fan. So we used to go to the local market (country ass shit) and he would buy 5 mega lotto tix and me a scratchers... If I won on the scratchers, he would give me the money and I would buy a few packs of cards.

Some of my favorites in my generation were Cecil Fielder, Kirby (fat ass) Puckett, Doc Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Don Matingly, Pete Rose, Nolan Ryan, roger Clemens, Bobby Bonilla, Brett (something he played for the Royals) etc. If it was 15-20 years back I could cap bases and beat all these fuckin' books. I had everything on point down to the slug percentage and ERA. I watched baseball like it was my life. Then I got into hockey and never touched a ball until about 3 years ago. I probably would be signing autographs now LOL!

Willie was a great player and one that was impossible not to like. Always played hard, always had a good attitude and was never controversial about anything. A lot of good memories for me growing up watching him here....

You should hear Busch when he shows up still today. He came out on opening day a couple weeks ago and the place just went crazy.

I would imagine they go crazy. The fuckin' cards were the shit back int he 80's. The only other teams worthy of competing with them were maybe the Reds, The Yanks, The Twins, or The Mets IMO. Then the braves got good towards the end of th 80's.

Man B, we definitely grew up watching the same guys!! I always used to buy cards when I could as well. All the same guys that you named....I spent hours with that shit.

Hockey guy huh? Hey, you know how us black folks don't like the cold or ice....but, I am a huge Blues fan. Once you go to a game in person, you are hooked. I love it and never thought I would.
