I, for one, would never condone the use of any drug that puts a horse's life in jeopardy.

I would prefer, like Jack, that the game was cleaned up.

As a handicapper I have to navigate around this stuff. That puts me at a handicapping disadvantage because nobody tells you when their horse is doped.

///

Now I have a new question for you guys who are savvy as to how these drugs can improve performance when used.

I think we have to assume that Medina Spirit will run clean of any performance enhancing drug come Saturday. (True?)

And if my assumption is correct is that likely to mean that the horse runs up the track (runs like crap)?

Now Michal you want to talk about performance enhancing drug lets go back to the 80's
whatever Oscar Barrera was useing went undetected on The most famous of all was Shifty Sheik, a $35,000 claim in 1984 who won three straight in 13 days for Barrera, then took 10 days off before jumping into Grade 1 company and almost beating champion Slew o' Gold in the Woodward Stakes

While I’m disgusted with trainers doing that kind of chit to horses, I won’t be boycotting the Preakness. I just won’t bet on Medina even if he is the most likely winner. If you are going to boycott The Preakness because of this, then you need to boycott horse racing all together. You just don’t know which trainer is going to cross the line. Money talks!! That’s my two cents.

Any of you ever read Dick Francis novels? I swear sometimes that's what this whole thing sounds like. Truth can be stranger than fiction...

I disagree because you can KNOW who is doing what. And I do boycott tracks that cater to life threatening drug cheats.
I never played Monmouth because of Navarro and never played Southern Cal because of Baffert.

But you can KNOW if you cared to do the research.

You can know if you do the research. To me there is a difference in the type of drugs being used. And the people using them.
And there are tracks I will not play because they condone it.

This is where I differ from most. I don't need a smoking gun. I trust data evidence so much so that I bet on it.
Case with the Preakness, we all know.

And I'm talking about different type drugs ...... the more lethal type. But since hasn't been proven to exist, people here will just clump it all together as one. Like there is no difference in robbery and murder. It's all criminally equal.
I think there are differences in degrees of cheats, and drug uses.

Swelling creates pain, GT.

So if the drug in his system was allowed up to 14 days before the race (which clearly makes it non-lethal), and does not improve performance, what am I missing?

What does the "cheating" gain Baffert and his horse?
