Why stop at seat belts? Laws forcing me to stop at red lights and stop signs, and forcing me to travel slowly in school zones, and to stop for school buses loading/unloading, and to not tailgate and weave in and out of traffic, and against reckless and drunk driving, also infringe on my personal liberty. If I want to go out and get loaded on vodka and cocaine and then go out driving 80 mph and run a few stop signs, then no goddamm government beaurocrat should be allowed to deny me my god-given right to do so.

All of those things directly endanger the lives of other drivers and pedestrians. Presumably, your wearing a seatbelt does not.

Banned4Life - Great points. F*** all the laws!!!!! Let's just live like animals. Survival of the fittest!!!!!!!!

I can't figure the Libs out......They want less and less law, yet they want to have to rely on the government to pay for them. They don't want to go to war, whether it's just or not.....Don't they understand that if they had their way, they would cease to exist. I mean think about it. They don't want any laws and they don't want to fight. The people that do want laws and want to fight would take them all out.......Hmmm wait a minute not a bad idea!

Should be a law. Why wouldn't you want a law that saves lives? If people aren't smart enough to do something on their own that protects them, then legislate it.
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

So we should outlaw smoking, fatty foods, not getting enough aerobic exercise, contact sports, and come to think of it driving as a practice entirely, right?

Phadreus...Are you serious?

Remember, driving is a privledge, not a right.
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

This is just statist nonsense. The car, road and oil industry do not care one whit if you are a licenced driver. The state would have you need a licence to take a piss if it could get away with it.

I appreciate you taking the time to rebuttal my remarks, but I'm getting the impression you've got some issues.

It's a shame that the government has to pass a law to get people to do something that could save their lives or quality of life and that only takes ONE SECOND to do.

Hey Kman,

I am on the conservative side on most issues. The problem I see with this seat belt law is it's not hurting anyone but myself if I am not wearing it. Also, the hypocrisy of not banning cigarettes which causes many more deaths per year than not wearing a seat belt is disgusting.

The people that say insurance rate go up, what about health care cost that's sky high due to people smoking?

truthteller - I hear what you are saying and I agree about banning cigarettes. I hate going into a casino and immediately smelling like a chimney. There are probably a lot of laws that could be made to save people's lives. I guess you have to pick and choose.
