i wasnt specifically referring to you with the chase 20k line, i was referring to the average american. the capitalist mindset of spend spend spend, i have to have this benz because my neighbor has a jag. i have to look like im somebody, and those are the 6 digit americans.

The whole reason you vote is so that the candidate you support has a better chance to win. The only problem, is that the odds of your vote effecting the outcome are very slim. In some states ( like California) where one candidate enjoys a huge margin, it is pointless to go and vote if you think you are going to effect the outcome. Even in the closest elections, the chances of it coming down to 1 vote is very small. Florida in 2000 came down to 700 votes in one of the closest elections in history. Even if 699 or whatever the numer is, people stayed home... do you get the point?

It also brings up the point of rationale ignorance, what economist talk about. in Pork Barrel politics.


For me, voting is more about freedom. Even if you vote 3rd party... and enough people did... that number could creep up from 3% to 5%, to 10% to 15% until our voices would have to be heard. It isn't about "winning", it would be to show both parties that their vice grip on American politics aren't favored by everybody...

The media blackballs Ron Paul and Nadar and Barr and everybody else. The only time I saw Ron Paul make big news, was when he dropped out. It was anti-democratic the way he was treated in the media. Here he is, getting more votes in primaries than Giouliani, stirring the pot in the first debate etc., and yet you never heard about him.

The media is pulling the wool over everybodies eyes and trying to back you into a corner so you have to vote for Obama or Mccain... " don't throw your vote away".

Your 1 vote never mattered in a past election, and your 1 vote will never matter in a future election either. You might as well just vote for who you want and not CONTRIBUTE to electing somebody you don't want. At least you have the right to complain, and at least you can sleep at night.
