A lot of us who were educated in the North are taught that the "Civil War" was all about slavery. We aren't told the truth that it originally was about states' rights. Then, later we find out that it was about the Northern Yankees (descendents of the English) trying to exploit the resources of the South (a large number of Scots) so they can run their northern industrial complex.

Lincoln was the aggressor at Fort Sumter so that a conflict could start.

Obama reminds me a lot of Lincoln.

By the way, your saying a lot of Scottish were in the south at the time of the civil way as compared to the north?

Interesting........lots of Scots where I come from in Iowa, including me. Geezus, if this is true, I may have to buy a confederate flag at Walmart or Dollar General.

The Scots have a rich history in the South. I think you would be interested in learning more about these people. I used to work with a guy from the South who had Scottish ancestors. He told me about the Scots (or Scotch as some people say) in the South.

The poster here known as eek posted an article about how Scots-Irish values in the South in his thread titled (jokingly) "Why rednecks may rule the world" posted here:

http://www.therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=612890

The thing I admire about the Scots is that they are a fiercely independent people. No doubt this was learned from their many centuries of not being over-run by one of the world's largest military forces on their own island.

From the article:

The term redneck indicates a lifestyle and culture that can be found in every state in our union. The essentials of redneck culture were brought to America by what we call the Scots Irish, after first being shipped to the Ulster Plantation, where our, uh, remarkable cultural legacy can still be seen every 12 July in Ireland.
Ultimately, the Scots Irish have had more of an effect on the American ethos than any other immigrant group. Here are a few you will recognize:
  • Belief that no law is above God's law, not even the US Constitution.

  • Hyper patriotism. A fighting defence of native land, home and heart, even when it is not actually threatened: ie, Iraq, Panama, Grenada, Somalia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Haiti and dozens more with righteous operations titles such as Enduring Freedom, Restore Hope, and Just Cause.

  • A love of guns and tremendous respect for the warrior ideal. Along with this comes a strong sense of fealty and loyalty. Fealty to wartime leaders, whether it be FDR or George Bush.

  • Self effacement, humility. We are usually the butt of our own jokes, in an effort not to appear aloof among one another.

  • Belief that most things outside our own community and nation are inferior and threatening, that the world is jealous of the American lifestyle.

  • Personal pride in equality. No man, however rich or powerful, is better than me.

  • Perseverance and belief in hard work. If a man or a family is poor, it is because they did not work hard enough. God rewards those who work hard enough. So does the American system.

  • The only free country in the world is the United States, and the only reason we ever go to war is to protect that freedom.

Life is tough. It's tougher if you're stupid.

Lincoln was the aggressor at Fort Sumter so that a conflict could start.

The first shots of the Civil War were fired by Citadel cadets against the Union steamer Star of the West as it attempted to resupply Fort Sumter on January 9th, 1861. Lincoln sent a merchant ship instead of a warship as to not rile up the Southerners.

Rebel Flag To Rise Again At I-75 After Wind Damage
TBO.com

With NFL officials from New York and football teams from Pittsburgh and Phoenix about to march on Tampa, the Sons of Confederate Veterans have vowed this:

The 1,800-square-foot confederate battle flag shall rise again.

Damaged in the high wind and rain earlier this week, the 30-by-60-foot flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, which flies over Confederate Veterans Memorial Park adjacent to the Interstate 75 bridge over U.S. 92, is expected to be hoisted up the 139-foot flagpole this afternoon.

The battle flag will be hoisted at 2 p.m. during a short ceremony over the nearly completed memorial park, a statement issued this week said.

Organization officials said the flag was damaged in high wind this week and sent to a sail maker for repairs.

Marion Lambert, who oversees the memorial, said in the statement that with the Super Bowl next weekend, "Now is a great time to place honorable Southern heritage before the many visitors to the Tampa Bay area."

The flag had come under criticism by some civil rights advocates, who said it was a symbol of slavery and divisiveness within the community. However, all the permits were legally obtained and all the legal requirements to raise the flag were met.

Very sad.

I feel racism is much more a part of every day life in the North; than in the South. There is a huge amount of "Lilly-White" school districts up in Yankee Land that just would not be tolerated in the South; with the large % Black populations down here in Rebel land it is impossible not to be involved with Blacks in many areas of life; while up North, it is possible to live a segregated life with very little real contact with former slaves.

Excellent point

Growing up in Iowa, I never had my first contact with a black person until I was 18.3 years old(shook hands with my college guidance counselor).

What do you guys think about the Scots-Irish? They were a people without a country. They were despised wherever they went.

First allow a southerner to correct your grammar. Its "you're".

I'm not from Louisiana. I was actually joking... sorta. Aren't you being a bit hypocritical since you yourself are assuming that I'm ignorant because I'm from the south?

Just because you're a cheap sob, and you feel a little cooler everytime you find a new way to avoid paying for a meal, it does not make you smart.

Crawl back in the dumpster and hunt some more 50 cent coupons.

:bigfinger

for those of you wondering what it meant, it look's like the south just rose again bitches

I once thought the confederate battle flag was a cool symbol. But on return from the army I watched the crowds reaction to Jerry levias and SMU and Hayden Fry for haveing him there. Also how the blacks reacted to the stars and bars when it was presented at half time ceremonies at another game.

I was fresh out the Army where I learned that I had more in common with some of the blacks than some of the whites and they had more in common with me than some of the blacks.

I have not had a warm feeling for that flag since although I have relatives that fought and died under it.
