A few tattoos that are small and discreet are okay but the large, aggressive tats hint are a turn-off.

Depends on what it means. If you have an "eternity" tat on your ankle or leg and it has no real relevance to your life, you may be one. My evaluation of chinese/japanese tats is still in the natal stages, so I may need to reevaluate, but I think i'm onto something.

what i mistakenly edited out in my previous post, was that large tats, like agressive piercings, hint at self-esteem issues.

My favourite saying is 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.' But that's a little long for a tattoo. The incredibly loose translation into Japanese, however, is much more compact. So that's what I have.

Each tattoo I have marks a particular occasion. Quite deliberate. I wanted the saying, but wasn't about to get a tattoo that covered my whole arm. And I couldn't come up with a visual interpretation. Ya know?
