So that's not my problem there are irresponsible people out there, my decisions about adding a family member shouldn't be controlled by others incompetence

My rescue dogs as apposed to the ones I have bought from a breeder in the past are the sweetest, kindest, best dogs I've ever had. Am I saying dogs from shelters are always better dogs then from a breeder? Of course not. But your argument that dogs from a breeder are better then a shelter is dead wrong too.

I haven't ever purchased a dog from a shelter, where did I ever say that breeder dogs are better? I stated the one dog I didn't purchase from a breeder has been the dog I sunk the most cash into for various illnesses. Not sure how that translates into breeder dogs are better than shelter dogs, its just my personal preference to buy a dog I can raise up with my own characteristics over taken one over that was abused, neglected and possibly worse.

Pet Peeve: the term "rescue".

You didn't fucking rescue shit! You went to the fucking pound and got a goddamn dog!

As a career firefighter, the term "rescue" is used in the Emergency Management/Response world. A "rescue dog" is a dog that is trained to "rescue" people.

It's not some dog you adopted from the pound!!

Lighten up Francis. If you get a dog from a kill shelter, then you in fact have rescued it.

not judging your position at all on this, but a few points to keep in mind:

1) not all dogs in shelters are abused, neglected, etc
2) there are rescue organizations for specific breeds
3) try petfinder.com...with some patience, you can get a puppy (i.e., no time to abuse) and/or pure breed if that is what is most important to you/your family

Bought a Shepherd/Husky mix, pound puppy 6 months old. Had her 13 years.

4 months ago got a full blown shepherd bitch. Again a pound puppy.

I buy the discards and give them a good home.

This is what I don't understand.

Those pure breeds are going to find a good home regardless. The ones at the shelter are going to be executed by no fault of their own.

To me it's an easy decision.

What don't you understand? I don't want a mutt. It's not my problem if a dog is going to get put down. I don't care.

I don't want a dog to feel like I saved it from something. That's the wrong reason to get a dog IMO.

If everyone was like you Breeder dogs would eventually turn into rescue dogs.

The bottom line is every dog needs an owner.
When that does not happen they go to the pound.

Only difference is which dogs go to the pound.

You are ultimately not saving a dogs life by getting one at a pound.

All you are doing is lowering the price of the dogs that are bought from a breeder.

Technically you are enabling more people to buy dogs from a breeder by getting a rescue dog.

Because if everyone got there dogs from a breeder the prices would go up so high that people would be forced to buy rescue dogs.

So in a way you are part of the problem not the solution.

Worst logic I have ever heard. Period.

That's like saying by choosing not to be a criminal you are actually increasing crime by lowering the competition for other criminals.

don't you think that people would stop (over) breeding dogs if no one bought them from breeders / puppy mills??? the worst issues are often with the pet stores in the malls

#1 ENFUEGO buying a breed dog is not murdering a rescue dog.

That would be like saying if you choose to have your own kid instead of adopting a kid at an orphanage you are being insensitive to kids in orphanages.
That is the most ludicus thing I have ever heard.

#2 Dogs are not equal to humans. Not even close.

What a ridiculous conversation we have going on here.

To even imply that you are murdering a dog just because you want a full blooded boxer with papers is retarded.

And only someone retarded like Justin Cruise would make such a stupid comment.

What a retarded fuck stick you are JC.

Now go cry to the mods that I called you a name.
