A recent Washington Post poll showed 90% of Indians couldn't give two shits about that stupid fucking name.

Then they should call themselves the Engines.

I disagree Harry, just using the name as being representative of your team is intended to be an honor, not disrespect. In this case, very much in the same vein as "Warriors"

Professional sports franchises are not looking to mock themselves. Although a few left coast college teams try to look like cuties, I think the name Redskins is really more about respect and tradition.

You may very well be right. Fuck who am I to know? I just try to put myself in someone else's shoes.

I agree with Harry, Redskin is a slur. But I also agree that the only one's that are offended are liberals and lawyers.

Guess the question though is who's shoes? The natives aren't offended and that is proven in various polls taken. If they aren't offended, what gives us the right to tell them they should be offended?

silly for anyone to think that a franchise would choose their name as an insult to a group of people. Whether that name is Braves, Redskins, Mountaineers, Steelers, Rebels, Seminoles, or Minutemen they were chosen to honor the folks that built or founded the region. No doubt the PC climate lends itself to naming your team after a flower or tree because even naming it after an animal could get a rise out of PETA but it is bizarre what offends people these days.

If it's really a slur and offensive, then why do Native American high schools still use it today as a nickname?

From Ruth Buzzi on Twitter 6/22/14:

Washington Redskins are removing the embarrassing, demeaning word from their team name. From now on, they'll just be called The Redskins.
