I was at my weekly bowling league last night ( insert joke here )

4 mid 20's hipsters came in and never got shoes, balls, or booked a lane. they sat at a table and were playing a "magic" type of card game and taunting each other.

they had one big card that had some person on it and then little battle cards

was amusing

I owned a sports Card shop for many years and let me tell you one thing. MAGIC IS A GOLD MINE!!!!. Sports card sales were on a decline and games like Pokemon,Magic,Dragon ball z, Yugioh all far exceeded what I was doing in Sports. Its a younger generation and that what they are into. Yes I would have my heavy hitters coming in and buying sports but I would do 3 times as much a month in gaming cards.

When sports card packs went to 5 then 10 then 20 then 50 then 100 then 200 and now up to 300 for 1 pack of cards. What kid can afford that? I moved on to game used items and Autographs as that is really the only market left for Sports related items.

Thats awesome, would love to own a card shop! I tried getting in to it but the prices are insane like you stated. And I always end up getting like a Bilal Powell gamed used Rc instead of Cam Newton. I have a massive Redskins collection. 10s of thousands of cards. Been collecting them since I was 10. Have over 600 non-duplicate Michael Westbrook cards, lol. About 60% ever produced. You know the industry is watered down when there are over 1000 different Michael Westbrook cards out there.

I was at a mall between baseball games this weekend and at the card shop half of it was sports cards, the other half had tables setup with quite a variety of people all playing Magic or something along those lines. An odd looking group but whatever keeps the lights on

600 different Westbrook's is insane! Yes, the market is watered down.......

I stopped collecting basketball, baseball & football cards in 1991 after getting signaturesby Ken Griffey Jr. & Sr. on a baseball & baseball bat at the local fairgrounds we have in our city. The market started to get bad around the early to mid 90's with all sorts of companies coming out.

Had a Jordan 2nd year card by fleer that had several creases in it & sold it in 1991. I wish I would have held on to it.

I was an addict in the card shop always going in with $100 & buying pack after pack.

As for magic games, never got into them, they just never interested me.

Haha, yea... I never even opened a pack of magic cards. Have no clue what they do with them. But it's a fun to collect sports cards. It's impossible to keep up these days. I mean if you wanted to be a serious RGIII collector you would literally need a bankroll of around $50k set aside and you wouldn't even really make a dent in the % of single cards out there for him because of all the #d cards they have. I love my vintage Redskins collection and the Westbrook days there wasn't all the $300 packs with all the #d game used/auto cards... so it was much easier to afford his cards and trade for them. My Mark Rypien collection is pretty legit also, probably in the 70% range. Too bad I couldn't be a fan of a team that had really good players, I'd be sitting on a fortune, lol. Other than the vintage cards my most expensive collection is my Champ Bailey 1999 RC collection. Lot of $30-$60 cards (ebay value) in that collection.
