Carter's revisionists like to take credit for the release of the hostages (

Carter's library.) Reagan could have prevented this from happening. He didn't. Both men applied an asinine and dangerous solution to a simple enough problem, by sending a message to Khomeini, Khadafi,
et al. that despite the rhetoric America was more than happy to negotiate with terrorists.
