How about congress spending the money wisely that they already are taking off each gallon. The feds already are taking 18 cents of every gallon sold. That is a shitload of money when you think about it.

On a side note did anyone see the story of how these same democrats are avoiding the taxes on gas in Denver for the convention? Gas tax holiday for themselves. (BTW I think the tax holiday was a dumb stunt) Not to mention not putting money into small businesses in the host city. Showing the elitist pukes that they are.

This is not a surprise. Highways and Roads are paid for through gas taxes. Because Barack has openly stated he wants to build more infrastructure, improve roads, etc... it is only inevitable that the gas tax will be levied if he is voted into office.

My Take
---->

I don't support a tax increase, but I do think we need to work on a unified grid for electricity throughout the US. At the same time, we can add other infrastructure related features on the land that will be bought up or seized through eminent domain in order to "kill 2 birds with one stone".

My idea consists of laying fiber optic cables, fuel pipelines, water pipelines, and wireless cell towers on the transmission lines.

This way there will be no water shortages in any given region of the US, states can be profitable by exporting their natural resources more efficiently, and infrastructure can be mire efficiently utilized.

Let's base a study on how much .18 a gallon is extrapolated out to 100,000,000 cars driving 12000 miles a year and averaging 25 mpg.
(Anyone know how many cars there are? I figured 100 million was low)

Based on this:
-Each car uses 480 gallons per year.
-That is 86.40 per vehicle in federal tax
-That is over $8,600,000,000 in taxes

This does not include any state or local taxes which also go to help pay for state hghwys and snow removal/sanding...etc. Based on this model I say we are taxed enough on each gallon of gas and our lawmakers need to spend our tax dollars more efficiently.

Those are decent ideas that would be much less efficient if government was in charge vs private enterprise of said enhancements.

Talking to some people from West Texas, they thought it would be a great idea if they could pipe that flood water up from Iowa for irrigation.

I told them that even if Iowa were only 10 miles away that they couldn't afford that water.

Its 3000 ft lower. Pumping cost makes it price prohibitive.
