I wouldn't mind seeing this de-funding in Minneapolis. As long as it's there and no where near me, Philly. It's can be like a grand experiment.

My guess is a 90% chance the higher income folks who actually have stuff to protect and lose who value police will move out of the city. Not all in a month, but at a very quick rate. Property values will fall super fast. Criminal types will move to the city, as well as regular upstanding low income families to take advantage of the new affordable housing. Within 5 years the entire city will be looking exactly like the worst parts of the city currently look. It would be worse then Detroit within 10 years.

There is maybe a 10% chance somehow it magically works great.

Starting in Minn is perfect. Kind of isolated. The effects would be even worse in LA Phl, NY, nobody cares to much about Minn except the people living there.

I'm thinking Philly would be on my top 5 of places that need more police - about one pace behind DC, Detroit, O-Town and Chicago

It’s actually pretty simple.

defund the police
give those monies to the poor instead
then crime instantly will stop

everybody wins!!!

"Has a big city mayor in this country ever been more thoroughly humiliated?"

Like the Indianapolis Colts - I thought he would have just moved in the middle of the night - he redefined the walk of shame

No, there is not a 10% chance it works - there is 0.00%
This is the truth. And it wouldn't take more than 3 days before everyone would know it. You take the police out of anywhere, and it immediately becomes full on anarchy.

Anyone got any predictions as to how this all ends? The activists seem to be pretty dug in this time around, it does "feel" differently but they seem to have no real concrete proposals and are basically run by anarchists.

Conventional wisdom is it blows over until the next incident happens but who knows...

I don't think we've seen the worst yet. I see the activists stepping up to cause even more havoc.. In the end they eat their own.

Civil war? Separation?
Imagine this country in 50 or more years when the demographics really start to get reversed. We changed what works for what sounds good. A multiracial/ethnic hippie utopia and mix of cultures and people who want different things with different viewspoints.

You hear people bring those two things up but I don't see how that would be possible. This isn't like Yugoslavia where the divide is geographical/regional. Red and blue states are just how small majorities in those states vote by small margins.

But on a lighter note, I think you could see more people picking where they live based on politics/culture than in the past. Places like Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana gaining in population that can work remote/have money and are looking to avoid all the unrest.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help
