If I recall Italy won the world cup did they not?? Thats what I thought fukin idiot.

You can hate them all you want. We played this entire tournament without our best player in cannavarro, and we had no pirlo today which was a major loss as well. stop being fukin stupid.

If you had any decent knowledge of soccer, you would know why italy played a defensive game. Let me educate you..........
Italy had no choice, given spain's domination during the first two games, their speed (young team), and better skill at mid-field due to the loss of gattusso and pirlo, plus losing the best defender in the world, Italy had to play a defensive style and hope for a counter attack. As you saw, it limited chances for spain unlike games where spain blew out their opponents. So, the game plan worked for italy, they weren't trying to go to PK, but they sure weren't going to lose it by playing an open game, which would suit the spanish team.

Both teams had good chances to score, but spain pressed more with an attack. Also, a rare thing in having two teams go into the semis that are not soccer powerhouses (russia and turkey). This has been one hell of a tournament. Congrats to spain on winning the game, somebody had to win,

while this is pretty spot on in what happened and Italy's philosophy for that game, the irony is that there was no need to be so negative and defensive. The Roman midfield as a whole is much better at this stage of their career than the Milan midfield as a whole. Not having Gattuso wasn't a significant loss, DeRossi was marvelous in midfield and is 5x the player Gattuso is. Pirlo was obviously a loss, but Aquilani is more than capable of orchestrating in concert with DeRossi. Their plan to attack through Ambrosini was a horrendous decision and Cassano was atrocious all game. The entire game they went down the left side through AMbrosini who is plain shit on a regular basis and was shit yesterday. Cassano should have been replaced at half time as he was awful. Camoranesi's ability to attack and dribble at defenses was their best weapon once he was brought on.

Each time they attacked down the right hand side there were acres of space for Aquilani and Zambrotta but they did it infrequently. In the end, no one to blame but themselves for the negative style of play reminiscent of 1990ish Italian play. With the midgets in midfield one would think Italy would have been suited to bomb balls into the box like they did against Romania, at some point you would think something would have fallen for them even with Casillas' ability to cover crosses. Just horrendous mentality by the Italians and Donadoni deserves the blame. Spain deserved to win, fair result in the end.
