More talent from top to bottom is always the easiest answer but in general I think the teams have it more right than wrong when it comes to micro-managing their pitchers. If you've got a guy that is very good at getting 3-6 outs, using him a few innings earlier than you do in the regular season clearly makes a lot of sense.

Overuse is always a risk, burning the candle at both ends to maximize risk/reward at the most important time of the season but what is the alternative? Underuse? Then you didn't fire all your bullets from the holster.

Why must underuse be the only alternative to overuse? What happened to proper use?

Of course adjusting strategy somewhat is the proper thing to do, but it must be done judiciously. Chapman blew 3/7 saves in the playoffs last year while Joe ran him into the ground, and Jansen had more bad outings in the WS than I saw him have all summer.

There are consequences to drastic overuse.
