Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Germs, NOFX, Agent Orange, Descendents. I was more part of the second wave that came in the late 80's early 90's. Lots of good times. Guy's would rent out warehouses and have bands play. Ha even the cholos were listening to punk in Socal.
I was out of LA in July of '84....I forgot Agent Orange.
Have never even heard NOFX which is trippy cuz I think they are HUGE, same with Descendents pretty much. Listened to a few of their tunes didn't like them at all for some reason. Strange how guys like some bands and not others. I've always wondered why that is, has to be something in how the brain is wired....they type of "sound" we appreciate and others sound we don't. Kinda Mystical really if you think about it....how so many love Descendents and I literally cannot stand to listen to them. Odd for sure.
Lotta shows were at rented mexican dance halls and vfw, eagles, american legion type places....warehouses too of course....the dance halls and legion-like clubs wised up pretty fast, fortunately LA is Huge....the mexican dance halls put up with us way way more than one would ever expect.
Practically ZERO SCENE in the 'burbs of OC. Basically nothing. I think Golden Bear or whatever that Huntington Beach Club was (legendary) tried to have some shows but then the chaos in the streets.....PD said no more.
I basically really came to hate it bcuz of that and its a big part of why I left LA altogether. Posers from The Valley & OC would show up not even to go to shows but to break car windshields and whatever else they could cuz they thought that made them look "punk" so then those shows would be shut down, like, Wisky & other Hollywood Clubs Punk would be banned for periods of time following.
The Music was Everything.
but fake babies from the burbs made it be like this:
