Here are my preferred comps

FIRST FOUR FULL SEASONS

Rodgers 17.1k yds 65.6% 8.7 ypa 131/37 td/int 1236 rushing
Prescott 15.8k yds 65.8% 7.6 ypa (8.2 in 2019) 97/36 1231 rushing
P Manning 16.4k yds 61.1% 7.4 ypa 111/81
Brees 12.2k yds 62.2% 6.3 ypa 79/53

Any suggestion the Cowboys will go in another direction for QB is incredibly absurd

If they can't negotiate an agreeable extended deal they will franchise tag him for 2020 and try again in spring of 2021

Really tough to compare Bree's and Manning first 4 years to the new guys, completely different game where you could actually play defense.

For instance
Brady 01-04: 13.9K yds 61.8% 7 ypa 97/52 td/int
Brady 16-19: 16.5k yds 65.0% 7.7 ypa 113/29 td/int

Did Brady actually get better? Don't think so. The game has advantaged the QB so much, something Dak, Wilson, Rodgers, Mahomes, they all have benefited from IMO.

Did Brady (& Brees and Manning) actually get better between age 25 and age 35?

YES, of course they did....as do many professional athletes of high caliber.

There is currently no reason to deny that Prescott has a similar potential to demonstrate further maturity

Yeah, but I just gave you Brady's numbers from 38-42 yrs old, way past his prime.
Take away this year, and his numbers are drastically better than when he was 22-26 years old.
That's not him getting better, its the NFL game making passing extremely easy.

Of course Preskott will probably improve, my point is you can't compare numbers from now to 15 years ago, simply not apples to apples in any way.
That is what you are doing, you picked two guys who's first 4 years was played 15 years, that was my only point.

None of this matters anyway. Garrett is still the head coach as of right now. :hanging:

These are tough comps to make as Rodgers didnt play until his 3rd season in 2007, Peyton played for a crappy team who he led to a division title in year 2 in the late 90's, and Brees sucked his first few years and his first good year was year 4 when he was hurt.

Game has changed BIG time.

The best comps to make are QB's drafted this decade who signed nice deals on their 2nd contract.

How does Dak compare to Russell Wison?

I remember when Tannehill signed his extension with Miami (drafted 2012), his extension was similar to Andy Dalton (drafted 2011).

Lets look at qb's who signed their 2nd contract with their respective teams over the past 5 years and do comps then.

And as i stated earlier, if Dak signs, where does Jerry spend less? On his defense? On his O-line? He made Zeke more of a priority over Dak

Strongest odds are on Prescott being franchise tagged for 2020 and a likely release of DLawrence

you're really overrating this guy. he is already on the downside. doesn't react well under pressure. seems to have some athletic ability but seldom on same page as receivers. just a gut feeling cowboys don't want him for their franchise qb in the 2020's. could get a high 2nd rounder for him. i'd do a sign and trade but don't believe there would be any takers.

He's a good, not elite QB and given the small sample results in the the NFL people tend to go too crazy with narratives when these guys over or underperform.

Most of the guys in this tier play well and can lead contending teams (we'll say it is 10-12 guys deep at a given time) when put into good situations and don't do so well when they aren't.

Notice with the clock running out they ran and ran and ran as they were afraid to let Dak throw it at the goal line. When he finally had to, one-two-three Cardinals could/would have intercepted...the first one did.
Will be interesting to see how many points the Cowboys give to NE next week with Bellichik figuring out a way to make Dak the focus.

yeah it made zero sense. you need two TD, there's 5 minutes left, you're in the red zone, and you run up the middle 5 consecutive times including 2nd and goal from the 7? To get into the red zone they threw on 5 of 6 plays then once they hit the AZ 18 they handed off 5 straight before the INT on 3rd and goal from 7. only logical explanation is no trust in Dak in the red zone
