This is insane.
Let's do the list:
Mahomes
Rogers
Brady
Brees
Wilson
Luck
Watson
Rivers
Ryan
Cam
Those are all guys that I think 95% of rational people would say are better than Dak.

After that you got your
Big Ben
Wentz
Goff
Stafford
Baker
Cousins
Winston
IMO Dak falls somewhere in the middle of those guys but you can probably make a rational argument that he is better than those guys but no way he's better then the first group of qb's. So at the absolute best case Dak is the 11th best qb in the NFL and realistically he's probably around the 13-15th best. OK, so maybe you toss him a little extra in this contract because he vastly outplayed his first contract (he's making like 700k this year) but no way in hell he's worth 40 mill a year.

Still don't know 100% what Dak is. He just doesn't seem to have that natural throwing talent. Almost like he became a QB but wasn't born one.

On the postive, he seems like a great leader, he's consistant. Seems like a winner.

On the negative , he might not be a difference maker. You put the great QB's on a good team they become a great team, etc. No sure Dak in one of those guys.

30 Million seemed like a stretch but probably necessary, 40 mil seems crazy. I guess they can justify some as that got a great bargain for his first three years.

He has benefitted from a great, now good, offensive line.
And with Elliott, the whole defense has to be careful, that helps Dak a lot.
Sure he can throw deep on scrambles, outside the pocket, but that is not winning football in the long run.
When they need strict pocket passing to go down the field, he often is not accurate, often does not make good decisions.
When Elliott is out, they are pretty damn bad, that tells you a lot.
He is a "serviceable" QB, sure, a top team can go far with him, but they are not, and he is not a "plus" QB at all, late-middle of the pack in the NFL, I would say the #17-20th guy I would want out there this year to help a team win.
And there are a few that are in their 2nd year that I would want MORE than him because I think they will develop into better QB's.
$40M is ridiculous, he is not going to get better, they should not committ to him long term, much less at an outrageous figure or anything close to it.

While I certainly would agree he’s not worth anywhere near $40M, he has been a league leader in statistics outside the pocket and ranked number one in aggregate since he took over in 2016. In addition, he’s been one of the most accurate passers in the league under 35 yards. His numbers do start to drop massively on 36+ yard attempts, but to question his accuracy over ten yards and play outside of the pocket is just flat out wrong. He also ranks second in fourth quarter winning drives since taking over as the starter.

No QB in Cowboys history can match his first three seasons of production

He will of course be extended at happy terms for all

Choosing to "let him walk" means Dallas would be conceding serious playoff contention for at the next five years

Is Dak Prescott a top 15 NFL QB?

It's almost moot, though of course he is in Top 10-12 at the least...certainly when his own first three years are compared to every other QB's first three.

Bottom line he is in Top One for Dallas Cowboys and replacing his current level of production would mean no serious playoffs til at least 2023

Story seems like pure sensationalist fake news TBH, which often happens with NFL contract negotiations. He probably turned down a deal worth 30 that had a little less GTD and a few more incentives than he wanted, doubt he is really holding out for 40. Probably leaked by Dallas for PR reasons.

1% of the team’s market value per year would seem like a fair compromise for a young starting QB

He's playing himself out of a big contract.

Although, no matter how much Dallas gives him, it will seem like a bargain compared to the Goff contract for the Rams.

Thru Week 11 (10 gms played) Prescott not only having his personal best season to date...he is also ranked in NFL

Yards - 1
YPA - 2
TDs - 2
Comp % - 8
QBR - 8

Certainly helpful that following last season's 52 sacks he has only been trapped 12 times so far this year.

Also helpful to have Cooper all year (so far); a huge Yr2 for Gallup; Randy Cobb replaces Beasley and the two TE have combined 58 receptions

.@Dak's four games with 375+ passing yards & 2+ TD passes this season are tied for the second-most in a single season in @NFL history.

Only Peyton Manning (six in 2013) had more.

Dak is going to get paid the most. Probably not 40 a year, but he will be the highest paid when that deal gets done.

Prescott is horrible. I hope the cowboys pay him huge money so he can ruin that team for the next decade

He can't have one successful touchdown drive when they need him the most. I don't see that ever changing. Doomed.
