Dude is built to overachieve in the regular season when the stakes are lower. Him coming up short in the playoffs is routine.
Not only has he never even made it the finals, he’s only made it to the conference finals ONCE in his entire career. Once! And that was as the second fiddle to James Harden (another serial choke artist)
I don’t think Phoenix and Utah both losing in the first round is completely out of the question. The Suns want nothing to do with a somewhat healthy Lakers squad. The Jazz should advance, but you never know against a player like Curry and a plucky Warriors team. Would not be shocked if they both go out in the first round. Regardless, there is no way in hell they play each other in the conference finals. It’d be a crowning achievement if one of them makes it that far
Can it be considered a choke if you were never favored to win a title? I'm not sure any of teams he ever played on were good enough nor favored to win. The closest he got was with Houston when they had the Warriors down 3-2. A Warriors team soundly favored over the Rockets that year. Then he got hurt. If you classify getting hurt as "choking", then ok.
I'm not touting CP3 in the same class as a LeBron or a Kobe or a KD. Just saying he makes every team he's on WAY better. Plenty of proof of that through the years.
The choking is referring to his history of underachieving in the playoffs. His main chokes were with the Clippers. So many playoff collapses there
And that Houston situation is literally his greatest NBA achievement ever -- getting to the Western Conference finals once and LOSING. That's how pathetic his playoff career is.
And Chris Paul wasn't even the top option on that team. Think about that....his career highlight is being the second-best player on a team that lost in the Western Conference finals.
If he wants to win a title he'll have to come to LA next year on a cheap contract and be the third option. He loves Lebron so maybe it'll happen

For Phoenix it's not really about Chris Paul anyway. You kind of know what your going to get from him. Even if he's at his absolute best it's just not good enough as we've seen over his whole career. The real key would be Devin Booker. He's already a star , if he can take it to the next level and become a superstar they might have a chance. But even if Booker steps it up, Paul does his thing they probably still don't have enough. The rest of the supporting cast is talented but young, a young supporting cast is not usually a recipe for a long playoff run. But if Booker can do what Jamal Murrey or Jimmy Butler did last year they have a shot.

Do you mean it doesn't make sense for Paul? Because I think it makes complete sense for the Suns. He is exactly what that team needed. The two things they were really missing was a top notch point guard and top notch leader. They get both of that with Paul. And he's taken them from missing the playoffs, to a 2 seed in the toughest conference, in one year.
PHX was really stating to come together at the end of last season. As evidence of that 8-0 run in the bubble. He's built on that and taken them to the next level. You are right though as far as what they are up against in the playoffs. Paul and only a couple of other players have any playoff experience whatsoever. So I think a lot of people, like yourself, expect them to lay an egg come playoff time. And you might be right. We will see.. Like I said... One of us will be bumping this thread down the road.
Get what you’re saying about Paul being good for the Suns, but can’t see it being enough in the playoffs.
I can’t commit to Lakers/Clippers, only because I think there’s a good chance they’d have to meet before the WCF. If it’s a possible WCF match up then yeah I think those are the two.

It's about picking the games right, not about going out on a limb. Those odds seem right, given that the LA teams are clearly the two best when healthy -- even with the Clipper choking tendency
I wouldn't be shocked if both Utah and Phoenix are bounced in Round 1. I think that's a lot more likely than them both going to the WCF

I think Phoenix can really only get by the Lakers if the injuries are that serious. I think that's still an unknown. Even if the Suns get by an injury-plagued Lakers team though, I don't see how Phoenix can beat the Clippers either -- unless of course Paul George is his usual playoff self and Kawhi repeats what he did last year.
Utah has a much better chance of getting there just based on their seeding. Very possible their biggest test is playing against Curry in the first round. Dallas is too deficient defensively and Denver is without Murray.
Basically Utah has a chance just because of seeding, and Phoenix doesn't have much of a chance
