Yeah, he should do what's best for himself, period. He could have probably gotten a multi-year deal somewhere, but not near $14 mil per. Maybe he is just betting on himself having a good season. Taking his option was really a no brainer.
At 34 pitchers still usually have a few good years left in them.
If I was another team, I would tell the Cubs I would pay $5 million of the salary and trade for him.
His statistics the last two years before 2011 were worthy for a #3 starter. The year before that, for a #2 starter.
