Also don't forget if Harden does stay healthy he is a steal next year at 7 mil. Cubs hold the option for 2009 so If he somehow totally breaks down they can just not exercise the option. So while Sabathia is a pure rental for Mil, Harden also has future value in the cheap option for next season.

WTF are you talking about?

Oakland got Dan Haren and Daric Barton (great hitting prospect) for Mulder.

Have you seen what Mulder's done since joining the Cards? Nothing.
I wouldn't call the Cardinals winning 70% of Mulder's starts until he got hurt "nothing."

Once again people are too quick to jump the gun saying the team getting the big name player won the trade. The A's made a very good trade like usual. Was it good for the Cubs? Yes because their chance to win is now, not the future. The A's got a stud pitcher in Gallagher (this kid is no number 3 pitcher. Maybe right now, but he could be an ace in the future), Eric Patterson who has tons of potential, Murton who is just a solid bench player and the other kid I don't know about.

Very good trade by both teams, but like in the Sabathia trade I'd say down the road people will say the A's won this trade unless the Cubs win it all this year, which they easily could.
But Harden AND Gaudin? Gaudin is solid, and giving them both up......I just don't see how it's possible this can pan out as a good trade for the A's.

This was felony theft.

That had to be mostly in 2005 when he was indeed very good. Worthless since 2005 though.

2005 very good
2006 very good until injury

Injury ended his career. Fade the Cardinals big on the RL tomorrow, and pound the over. Mulder is finished.

I guess Beane was intent on trading Harden and this is the best he could get in return. Gallagher will be pretty good eventually, I think. But I would have thought the Cub would have had to give up some better prospects after him. Murton was worthless to the Cubs and Patterson is very iffy.

Wow I didn't even realize Mulder was starting tomorrow. Philly is a tough spot for a visiting pitcher.

Patterson sucks just like his brother, and Murton is a low-key borderline MLB player that has no potential to be remembered in 20 years. Cubs are laughing their asses off right now at the A's, and are indeed the favorite to win the WS.

Billy Bean drafted Zito, Mulder and Hudson. He didn't trade for them so that point makes no sense. He drafted them high in the draft as well and they panned out.

Bean is not known for making trades that work big time. He actually hasn't made a great deal outside of the Johnny Damon trade. Other than that he hasn't made any big time deal.

He is not a trading genius. This is a horrible trade and makes no sense.

I was using some of them as an example of him trading away guys before they turned to crap and getting max value in return.

Jake: BINGO!

Don't doubt Billy Beane. The guy has a way of trading for random players who turn into excellent ones.

Mark Mulder, Dan Haren, Tim Hudson, Barry Zito...

Then he trades them at their top value to reload without having to pay.

His deals always look bad on paper but most of the times they turn out great. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
A's & Twins do this ALL the time they both have to be sharper than the average bear, considering their positions in todays market. Small market tms and it's a struggle. Mn. quite happy w/the Johann trade, also AJ Peyszinski (sp) trade worked out fine. Jury still out on Tori. On the surface it does look like a winner for Cubs, one they couldn't pass up regardless! Wish my Twins could get a RH stick between M&M.
