the majority of sports betting in prisons (state and federal) is done with "parlay cards"
the cards are handmade, usually a clerk (prisoner of course) in the front office will type them up and run them off on the copier......standard cards are 3-team to 10 team with as Wilheim said terrible odds.......
the betting lines are taken from the newspaper...........so naturally they are stale.........
straight up action is usually with no juice.......(the concept of vig is foreign to many convicts, mostly blacks)
a common misconception is that there is no money in prison.........WRONG, WRONG, WRONG...........cash is smuggled in along with other contraband........usually by the guards....
the general form of currency is tobacco and food items (from the commissarry) whatever the cost of the item at the commissarry equals the amount in currency....
normally paraly tickets are paid off in commissary up to a certain amount then they are paid in "green money" (cash)..........you do not have a choice in what food items you get paid.......(certain hygiene items are usually not included because they can be obtained for free from the prison).....
on the prison hierachy the bookie is highly regarded along with the "store-man" aka loan shark.........
football is the predominant betting sport.........though horses are popular in some regions
btw
stiff rates are very low in prison..........very low
