Belle and Sheffield are very similar

Belle only played 10 years, but was the most feared right-handed hitter for those 10 years, even more than Big Hurt, Sheffield, and Juan Gone

Are you kidding... Frank Thomas was the most feared hitter of the 90's... more so then Griffey... People around the game will tell you that he had 5-7 seasons where he put up arguably the greatest numbers the game had seen...

Frank was more feared then anyone in the game... Belle didn't put up Franks numbers consistently and never hit for the average with the few SO's as Frank....

Belle 381 HR 1239 RBI .295 AVG
Sheffield 472 HR 1550 RBI .297 AVG

how did he have a better career? Sure Sheff demanded that trade...but i think we can all think of some examples for Belle that weren't so great

Didn't play near as long. Belle didn't throw games to get his way either.

The hall should be reserved for greatness not longevity. Fuck, let's put Julio Franco in the hall since he's played til he's 63 so far. By the time it's all said and done he'll be 103 and have doubled Pete Rose's hit total.

If Luis Gonzalez gets in the hall before Fred McGriff baseball will have lost any credibility it has left.

Let Luis pay the donation in Cooperstown like everyone else to get into the Hall.

He won't get in; now that the players have taken over the voting they're going to make it a real HOF, not just a Hall of very good for a long time.

NO F*Ing way, although I did look at his stats before posting and they are significantly better than I expected. He can wait in line and get in long, long after Joe Carter. Not to mention the guys you have already mentioned like Dawson, Rice, Belle, Juna Gonzo, et. al.

I don't know who pitchers feared more, Belle or Thomas, during the 90s, but I can tell you when the two of them were up in key spots I was more confident Belle would come through. Dude had more extra base hits in the 90s than anyone and he didn't play in 1990, .357 highest BA (Thomas' high was .353), only guy with 50 HRs and 50 2B in the same season, 9 straight 100 RBI seasons (including the strike shortened one when he was .357, 36 and 101 in 106 games).

He was flat nasty and, frankly, IMO, more deserving than a lot of guys that will get in ahead of him such as Biggio, Sheff, Palmeiro, McGwire (if either get in). While his stats are great, they don't tell the entire story of how ridiculous he was as a hitter. I think he, like Rice, was one of those guys you had to watch to fully appreciate. He was sort of like a hitting version of Koufax. Other than 1 big K season, his 162 game average is 101 compared with 96 for THomas.

NFW should LuGo be considered a Hall of Famer.
A typical season for him is .285 23-92 with an OBA of .369
Nice numbers? Yes, but far short of HOF.

If you elect LuGo to the HOF then you must elect Dwight Evans and Ellis Burks, because they had similar careers.

LuGo never dominated his position, and had one fluke year in '01.

STILL THINK HE HAS A .01 shot:

will update when he has a .02 shot

Gonzalez’s third-inning double was his 578th, tying Hall of Famer Wade Boggs for 17th on the career list.

The only way this guy gets in the hall is to buy a ticket. give me a break. How his name isn;t mentioned with Steriods is a real mystery too, 57 homers out of the blue = only one thing...
