*censor**censor**censor**censor* Happens

yes I know Costa Rica is going down now and since 3 years ago, the great problem is that police dont do anything at all, and is not pretty to take justice in ur hands cause it might get back to u.
What U could do is never walk alone, stay out is the wrong places, park ur car always inside never leave it out on the street and many others, just like in big cities with crime.
And remember it is going to get worst as christmas get near just be careful.

Yes, that's right. Be careful when you get the aguinaldas in December. That's the busiest time of year for the street criminals and muggings triple around Christmas time because they know everyone is walking around with their Christmas bonuses. It's a pretty sad fact of life in CR.

A couple tips to get by in CR

1) Drive an average car. A friend made a good point. If you drive around in a new benz or range rover, you won't get messed with because the bad guys figure you have enough money to get back at them. Drive a new Toyota or Mitsubishi and you're a great target.

2) Live well. Have a nice home with ADT and Security guys in the street. Spending a day in the filthy city or driving an average car isn't so bad when you have a safe modern home to return to.

3) Carry small change and only debit cards with your photo imprinted on them.

4) Keep your cellphone in your pocket. Nobody cares you spent $400 on your new GSM phone except for the thieves that see it on your belt.

So far so good.

My point is that everywhere you go there is crime. Even though crime is dropping in some areas of the states, i am sure in other areas it has not. Someone posted that they should go to Europe instead, well there it's not much better. So, now what you do?

I agree with you Darwin.
I've never had a problem in the states or here in Costa Rica. But, in 3 weeks in Europe, I had some asshole in Germany try to hold me up with a corkscrew....not a typo... a fvckin corkscrew at the Hofbrau Haus (makers of fine lowenbrau if I remember correctly) this jagoff wanted my passport..no dice for him. Then some joker on the train in Austria slid open my cabin door and tried to unzip and take something from my gym bag, while I was laying there half asleep. Little did he know, he was in my dirty socks pocket of the bag, I just acted like I was waking up and said "get out of here". He left no harm no foul. And finally, a lady in the same hotel as me in Amsterdam got mugged right in front of the place. I'm sorry, but Europe is f-d up just like everywhere else.
