Tapa your probably just getting home, but I am gonna go out on a limb and say that might have been among the best efforts a US Soccer team has ever put forth... GREAT GAME

Hope you guys didn't watch the last few minutes of the Mexico game. I had the -1.5 and even though it deserved to lose, it was sickening watching them have a complete empty net and miss.

Big winners in first round:

Jamaica- road draw to start is nice
USA- big road win to put them in driver's seat
Costa Rica- needed the win and got it
Mexico- in all reality should have gotten a loss or draw

Big loser:
Canada- gotta get the three points at home there.

Massive win for the US. Should a ton of guts in that game. Clearly played for the draw but capitalized on one of the few chances and held on. US may not be amongst the elite, but they play their asses off all the time and it really paid off tonight.

Gotta say, this thread is great evidence why this forum and specifically the soccer forum is a great source. I looked at this game and originally decided to pass. Took a look at the o/u solely b/c of this thread and liked the info I found for a small cash.

it's tough not to get pissed and play hard when the other team would rather take off your head than score a goal

glad US got the win, although I was on the +0.5/+1

Jamaica did not look very good at all and should finish 4th in that group. They were very lucky to get the goal to tie as it was a major blunder by Canadian keeper Pat Onstad, just a terrible mistake off a corner. Canada had 5 quality chances in the 20 final minutes to put the game away but couldn't bury it. Star midfielder Julian Deguzman nailed one off the crossbar with 3 minutes left and Jamaican keeper Ricketts game up with some bigtime saves late in the game.

Mexico was extremely lucky to get the 3 points. They were the least impressive team I saw last night. I had them (-330, ack) in a few parlays and it was a very frustrating game to watch, until the end.

Credit to the USA for netting their 1 decent chance, but damn that was an ugly/dirty game. Should have been a few more Reds.

Next round will be very interesting....

yeah, mexico were horrible. hit a strike from way downtown that went into the corner of the net which was a once in 100 shot. Then, swing in a free kick that misses everyone and sneaks into the corner

Cheap last goal from Mexico...is SGE the right fit for them?

guatemala match...frustrating. I thought they were gonna score first and when the went a man up...thought the draw was at least in the bag, then their player get a straight red. :ohno:

USA opportunistic on the set piece. The diff b/w the women's and men's teams - I luv the women and am indifferent regarding the men. A blue-collar team that can only advance thru grit and hard work.

Mexico are shit with or without "It" coaching. They have no real striker, no player that can attack through the middle and their midfield can't create anything. While watching their last qualifier (about 2 months ago) I realized they NEVER attack the middle of the field, everything is down the flanks with attempted crosses to the middle for a non-existent striker.

They are just atrocious in attack and on the offensive side of the ball. I originally thought Andres Guardado was a quality player, but even he isn't doing anything for them. If Vela and Dos Santos aren't the answers offensively they are in real trouble, though in no danger of failing to qualify. Having no one that can score, create or set up others is a bad recipe for success.

I agree that Mexico looks very weak on the attack. It took a perfect strike from outside the box to tie it up and then being up a man and a scramble for the second one.
They lack a striker with creativity and look pretty slow on long balls, imo.

I think if there was ever a time Mexico should be concerned with not qualifying out of the first round , this is the time. That is one nasty qualifying group they are in.. The home game against Canada isn't even being played at Azteca which many of the Canadian players are happy about. Tapa, did you see the Jamaican goal yet that tied the game?? What a terrible blunder by the Canadian keeper Onstad. jamaican goalie made some huge saves late in that one, I think we had the right side there.
