The College Football Playoff's board of managers unanimously voted Friday to expand the CFP to 12 teams in 2026 but is encouraging the sport's commissioners to try to implement it as soon as 2024.

The board's 11 presidents and chancellors approved the original 12-team model, which includes the six highest-ranked conference champions and six at-large teams, the board announced on Friday.

I think 6 is nice. Reward the top 2 with a bye

No one outside of the top 5-6 has a shot to win it anyway. Even that may be too many teams

When it was decided 6 Conference Champs are automatically in the tournament, the SEC insisted they go to 12 teams, not 8.

More meaningful games, good.

Probably fewer players skip bowls, good.

Hopefully this eliminates at least a couple of these worthless bowls that we don't need to see. 8 more teams in playoffs should do that.

Will everything be neutral site?

I would love to see quarterfinals at least be on better seed's turf. Finally see these southern teams come play in the cold

Eight is perfect

Every major conference champ plus best from non majors plus two at large. No byes, 3 weeks, New Year's Day can still be great (although that last piece can still be salvaged with 12, the four best won't be playing)

Twelve is too many, and if they're going with 12 than just make it 16. Four full weeks like they do at every other level of college football

Rewarding mediocrity

All for the $
No one seems to complain about College hoops? No "all about the money....only top few have a chance"?
A bracket format is obviously the best way to go. It's just this bowl format came before anybody thought it out.

8 is the perfect number

they probably chose 12 instead so you can have 7 combined teams from the SEC and B1G make it every year

There will always be subjectivity in college football. It’s impossible to avoid it

12 teams is inviting mediocrity to the playoffs

By expanding to 12 teams, you are inviting a 9-3 Pac-12 champion or a Notre Dame -- teams that pretty clearly don't deserve to play for a national championship at the end of the year

Utah going down, Oregon getting absolutely slapped, Notre Dame being anemic despite OSU playing pretty bad.....do we really want to see those teams get waxed in the playoffs?
