Giants are becoming a favorite for Over bettors

The San Francisco Giants have been participating in a lot of high-scoring games as of late, and Over bettors are profiting as a result.

Right-handers are baffling Rays' bats

The Tampa Bay Rays can't quite seem to figure out right-handed pitching, which could be bad news with righty Michael Pineda of the New York Yankees taking on Tampa Saturday.

The Rays have dropped 10 out of their last 11 games versus right-handed starters. Nathan Kearns is scheduled to counter on the bump for Kevin Cash's squad.

Sportsbooks are offering the Yanks in the -165 ballpark with a current total of 7.5.

Dickey seeking first road win of 2015 Saturday

R.A. Dickey hasn't been having much luck away from home this year, as the veteran has yet to record a win on the road so far this season.

Dickey has three losses with a no decision in four starts away from Rogers Centre. The Knuckleballer hasn't been getting much help from his team during that span, however, as the Jays have only been able to give him an average run support of three runs per game.

David Price is the probable starter for Detroit in Saturday's Jays-Tigers clash.

As of this writing, Dickey's Jays were priced at +118 at Pinnacle Sports.

Red Sox, Astros going over totals with ease

The Over has paid out five times in the last six meetings between the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros.

They'll collide once again Saturday in a Fourth of July matchup at Fenway Park.

Books have set a total of 8.5 for the contest.

Short sheets haven't updated for baseball since last Sunday. I don't expect them to do it today, either. So....

Happy Fourth of July, everybody!!! Have a fun, safe day and take a moment to remember what it's all about!

Game of the day: Lions at RedBlacks
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

B.C. Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks (+3, 46.5)

The Ottawa Redblacks look to win consecutive games for the first time in franchise history when they host the BC Lions on Saturday. The Redblacks opened the season with an impressive 20-16 road victory over the Alouettes and hope to use that momentum to beat the Lions for the first time after dropping both meetings last year.

"It's a new game, a new week and we have to be at our best on Saturday," Ottawa coach Rick Campbell told reporters. "This is a big challenge for us and we need to focus 100 percent." BC is eager to get back on the field for its season opener and erase the memories of last year's East semifinal after giving up 50 points in the loss to the Alouettes. New head coach Jeff Tedford has been tasked with leading the Lions back among the CFL elite after seeing their record get progressively worse in the last two years. Quarterback Travis Lulay is ready to go after missing most of the 2014 campaign with a shoulder injury and should benefit from the guidance of noted QB guru Tedford to give the offence, which finished fifth in the CFL with 330 yards per game, a much-needed boost.

TV: 6 p.m. ET, TSN, ESPN2

LINE HISTORY: Oddsmakers opened the RedBlacks +3. The total opened at 46 and is up a half-point.

INJURY REPORT: Lions - DB Steven Clarke (Out, undisclosed), G Cody Husband (Out, undisclosed), C Matthew Norman (Out, undisclosed). RedBlacks - QB Brock Jensen (Questionable, undisclosed), WR Khalil Paden (Questionable, undisclosed), WR Marcus Henry (Questionable, undisclosed), DB Hugo Lopez (Questionable, undisclosed), DB Forrest Hightower( Qustionable, undisclosed), DL Andrew Marshall (Questionable, undisclosed).

ABOUT THE LIONS (2014: 9-9 SU 8-9-1 ATS, 5-12-1 O/U): Running back Andrew Harris, who led the team in rushing before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in late September, is healthy and eager to play his part in the new high-powered offence. "You can already get excited about the things we're going to do," Harris told reporters. "I can't wait to see how it's going to play out in game situations." BC signed former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie and hopes he can fill the void left by big-play slotback Ernest Jackson, who bolted for Ottawa in the offseason.

ABOUT THE REDBLACKS (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS, 0-1 O/U): Henry Burris shook off three interceptions in the first half to finish 23-of-36 for 263 yards and a touchdown against the Alouettes. Jackson led all wide receivers with seven catches for 74 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of his Ottawa debut. Starting safety Jermaine Robinson injured his wrist in Week 1 and will be out for at least a week and will be replaced by Jacques Washington, while middle linebacker Travis Brown is listed as day-to-day after getting injured in Montreal.

TRENDS:

* Lions are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games in Week 2.
* RedBlacks are 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games.
* Under is 4-1-1 in RedBlacks last six games overall.

CONSENSUS: Fifty-seven percent of bettors are backing the visiting Lions.

BC Lions (0-0) @ Ottawa (1-0)-- Lions had Week 1 bye, which can't be much fun, while the second-year RedBlacks upset Montreal 20-16 (+8) on road, outgaining Alouettes 377-197 in game they trailed 13-5 at half. Ottawa KO'd two Montreal QBs. BC swept Ottawa last year, beating them 7-5 (-9) here, then pounding them 41-3 (-10) at home (under 1-0-1). Favorites had a rough time in CFL last week, going 0-4 vs spread; three of four games stayed under.

Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

How football expert Phil Steele sees the SEC West this fall.........

7) Mississippi State-- Senior QB Prescott is a darkhorse Heisman candidate.

6) Texas A&M-- New DC John Chavis is Sumlin's best recruit.

5) Arkansas-- Hogs have one of best offensive lines in country, senior QB.

4) Ole Miss-- Avoid playing top three teams in SEC East.

3) Auburn-- Will Muschamp is the new defensive coordinator.

2) LSU-- Only had four players drafted by NFL; if they get solid QB play......

1) Alabama-- Only has three starters back on offense this season.

**********

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Happy 239th birthday, America.........

13) DeAndre Jordan signs with Dallas for four years, $80M, plus whatever a decent shooting coach gets paid. Get ready for a winter filled with Mark Cuban complaining about the intentional foul rules.

12) Definition of Irony: Donald Trump has a line of fancy clothes some stores sell. The suitcoats have a label inside them that says "Made in Mexico"

11) I learned a new phrase this week: "throwing shade".

According to my friends at the urban dictionary, "throwing shade" means: ".......to talk trash about a friend or aquaintance, to publicly denounce or disrespect."

See all the neat stuff you learn coming here every day?

10) Random college football fact: Missouri is 26-9 vs spread in its last 35 road games; since 2007, they're 13-3 as road favorites.

9) Is Josh Reddick trying to get traded? He went on record Thursday in a radio interview ripping the A's front office for sitting him against lefty pitchers. Thats what happened with Josh Donaldson, before he got traded last winter, though he criticized the front office for other stuff. Problem is, Reddick is 11-69 (.159) against lefties- he ain't as good as Donaldson.

8) Over/under in Met-Dodger game Friday night was 5.5; thats an NHL over/under, unusually low for a baseball total. Of course, the game ended 2-1.

7) Great note from Christopher Kamka, a Comcast guy from Chicago:

Journeyman pitcher Clayton Richard starts for the Cubs today, his first start in two years, but he has made 129 career big league starts, going 46-47.

Anyway in 2002, Richard was Mr High School Football in Indiana, and was backup QB to Chad Henne at Michigan for a year, before quitting to concentrate on baseball.

Runner-up for Mr HS Football in Indiana in 2002? White Sox P Jeff Samardzija, who also pitches today and wound up being a really good WR at Notre Dame.

6) Howie Kendrick stole second for the Dodgers in the sixth inning last night, ending a 23+-game streak without a stolen base, LA's longest drought of the modern era.

5) PT Barnum would be so proud; there is a Fantasy Football Combine at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas July 17-19. Only costs $995 a person. Oy.

(PT Barnum was credited with a famous saying: "There is a sucker born every minute", though many historians dispute that he actually said it. You get the point.)

4) There is no state income tax in Texas; there is a 13.3% state income tax in California, which becomes something of a factor in these free agent negotiations.

3) Last 14 Detroit Tiger games went over the total, but Miguel Cabrera strained a calf muscle last night and is probably headed to the DL. Wager accordingly.

2) NBA Summer League from Orlando tips off at 9am on NBA TV. We're almost to the point where there is good stuff on TV 24 hours a day. Need time to sleep.

1) Happy Birthday America; we're very lucky to live here. We're fortunate to have freedoms a lot of other places do not have. Thanks to those people who protect our freedoms. Enjoy your 4th of July!!!!

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

The MLS has seemingly grown in popularity in the United States year in, year out, but it still has not hit the pinnacle of popularity that everyone expected after USA '94. Still, more and more European stars are joining the league to help it grow, with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard set to join L.A. and NYCFC respectively.
There are six games on the docket Saturday to celebrate America's birthday (odds via WilliamHill.com).

NY Red Bulls at Columbus Crew (+240, +260, +105)
7:30 p.m. ET
Betting note: The Crew and their opponent have scored over 2.5 goals in seven of Columbus's past eight home games.

NYCFC at Montreal Impact (+230, +240, +115)

Vancouver White Caps at Colorado Rapids (+190, +240, +138)

New England Revolution at FC Dallas (+275, +240, +100)

Betting note: the Galaxy are unbeaten in 28 of their last 29 home games in MLS.

WIMBLEDON

Feel like placing some wagers on the American contingent at the All England Club? If so, you'll have to focus on the women's side as Madison Keys is the only American in action Saturday.

Keys is in action against Germany's Tatjana Maria and is presently -450 with the German +333 (Bet365). The two have have never faced off, but Keys certainly has the edge when comparing performances in this year's Grand Slams. Maria has a pair of first round exits in the Aussie and French while Keys was ousted in the Round of 32 at Roland Garros but made it to the semis in the Australian Open before bowing out to Serena.

TOUR DE FRANCE

TV: 7 a.m. ET, NBCSN

Obviously, American riders have had a bit of history in France. Lance Armstrong dominated this event for years, but had his seven titles stripped in 2012 after the whole performance enhancing drugs thing. But before Armstrong, Greg LeMond won the event three times in five years.

A couple of American cyclists look to make noise at the 2015 event. Tejay van Garderen comes in at 30/1 while New Yorker Andrew Talansky is currently being offered at 100/1 at the Westgate LV Superbook.

Last year's winner, Vincenzo Nibali, comes in at 5/1. Chris Froome is the fave at 7/4, Nairo Quintana 9/4 and Alberto Contador 7/2.

CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

B.C. Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks (+3, 46.5)
6 p.m. ET

Missing football? Well, look no further than North of the Border. Yeah, it's not exactly the NFL or college football, but the CFL just might scratch where that football void in your life itches.

There is just one game on the board as the Ottawa RedBlacks host the B.C. Lions as 3-point home dogs.
The RedBlacks won all of two games last season, their first in the league, but are already out to a 1-0 straight up record after trumping the Montreal Alouettes as 8-point road dogs in Week 1.

BC was on a bye week to start the season, so this is the first we'll see of the Lions in 2015.

WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FINAL

The women's World Cup final between the United States and Japan doesn't go until Sunday, July 5, but you can still get your wager in early!

At Bet365, the ladies are -133 faves with defending champion Japan coming in at +375 (Draw +250).

There is the third place game on the board Saturday, however, as Germany and England square off. The Germans are presently -182 with the English +425 and the Draw +333.
