NHL roundup: Bruins snap skid, rout Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Center Patrice Bergeron scored his 200th career goal and notched two assists, and the Boston Bruins cruised to a 6-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon.

Right winger Reilly Smith added a goal and an assist for Boston, which set a season-high in goals. The Bruins snapped a six-game winless skid with their first victory since Feb. 7.

Center Jonathan Toews and left winger Bryan Bickell scored for Chicago. The four-goal losing margin matched the most lopsided defeat of the season for the Blackhawks.

The Bruins pulled away with four goals in the second period by left winger Milan Lucic, center Gregory Campbell, defenseman Dougie Hamilton and Smith. Along with Bergeron, right winger Loui Eriksson scored in the first period.

Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 28 shots to improve to 24-15-9.

Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford allowed four goals on 14 shots before he was replaced with 7:41 remaining in the second period. Goaltender Antti Raanta stopped 14 of 16 shots in relief.

Flyers 3, Capitals 2

PHILADELPHIA -- Center Claude Giroux and right winger Wayne Simmonds each scored power-play goals and defenseman Michael Del Zotto added a late go-ahead goal to lead Philadelphia to a win over Washington.

Flyers goaltender Rob Zepp made 21 saves in the victory.

Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby stopped 25 of 28 shots. Right winger John Carlson and right winger Joel Ward each scored for the Capitals, who saw their season-high four-game winning streak end.

Penguins 5, Panthers 1

PITTSBURGH -- Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury made 34 saves and Pittsburgh came alive in the third period to beat Florida at Consol Energy Center.

Right winger Patric Hornqvist and center Evgeni Malkin scored two goals each and defenseman Paul Martin added one while Fleury, who allowed two goals or fewer in his past seven games, held the fort on the back end.

Right winger Scottie Upshall spoiled Fleury's bid for a ninth shutout when he scored off of a faceoff play to make it 5-1 at 12:23. Center Vincent Trocheck got the only assist on the goal.

Canucks 4, Islanders 0

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Right winger Zack Kassian scored the first of Vancouver's three second-period goals while goalies Ryan Miller and Eddie Lack combined to stop all 37 shots they faced in a victory over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.

Right winger Radim Vrbata and center Bo Horvat also scored in the second, while defenseman Yannick Weber added an empty-netter with 10.2 seconds left in the third.

Right winger Martin St. Louis scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season for the Rangers, who are 6-0-2 in their past eight games, all without injured No. 1 goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Backup Cam Talbot made 27 saves to earn the victory. Center Kevin Hayes also scored for the Rangers.

The Blue Jackets erased a three-goal deficit, receiving goals from left wingers Marko Dano and Artem Anisimov and a tying goal from defenseman David Savard with 4:19 remaining in the third period. Goaltender Curtis McElhinney made 34 saves and took the loss.

Ducks place goalie Bryzgalov on waivers

February 22, 2015

A person familiar with the move tells The Associated Press that the Anaheim Ducks have placed goalie Ilya Bryzgalov on waivers.

The person spoke Sunday on the condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the decision.

Bryzgalov hasn't played since allowing three goals on eight shots in a 6-2 loss at Florida on Feb. 10. The 34-year-old went 1-4-1 in eight appearances since signing a one-year, $2.88 million contract with Anaheim in December.

The Ducks were in need of goaltending depth behind Frederik Andersen after rookie John Gibson was sidelined by a groin injury.

Gibson has played six games since being recalled Feb. 10 following a two-month stint in the minors. Andersen is day to day after missing six games with an upper-body injury.

Sharks playoff streak in jeopardy

February 23, 2015

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - After celebrating the success of hockey in Northern California with an outdoor party that included more than 70,000 fans, the San Jose Sharks now must deal with the fact that the franchise is in danger of hitting its lowest point in more than a decade.

When the Sharks return to the ice following their outdoor loss against Los Angeles, they will be stuck in 10th place in the Western Conference with plenty of work to do over the final 21 games to extend their playoff streak.

San Jose has qualified for the past 10 postseasons, a streak surpassed only by the Detroit Red Wings and the NBA's San Antonio Spurs in North America's four major sports.

''You want to push toward that second season, and right now we're not there,'' forward Joe Pavelski said. ''So there's nothing given to us and we got to go earn it.''

The push for a playoff spot over the final 21 games begins Thursday night against the Red Wings. The Sharks have lost eight of their last 11 games, including a 2-1 defeat on Saturday night to the Los Angeles Kings in front of 70,205 fans at Levi's Stadium - the third-largest crowd in NHL history.

With seven of the next eight games at home, San Jose needs to make a move now.

''They're smart guys, and they have 42 (points) left on the table,'' coach Todd McLellan said. ''We'll have to go out and earn more than we lose, if we do that, we'll take care of ourselves.''

The outdoor loss to the Kings was just the latest disappointment delivered to the Sharks by their Southern California rivals, who have knocked San Jose out of the playoffs the past two seasons.

Last year's defeat was especially painful and still lingers with the team 10 months later. San Jose became the fourth NHL team to lose a best-of-seven playoff series after winning the first three games.

That was perhaps the most crushing moment in a decade of postseason disappointment. While San Jose has been one of the league's most consistent teams since the start of the 2003-04 season, the Sharks have failed to make it past the conference finals while the California rival Kings and Anaheim Ducks have won three of the past eight titles.

Last year's playoff collapse led to Joe Thornton being stripped of his captaincy and general manager Doug Wilson talking about the need to take one step backward before taking two steps forward.

''Right now I think we're trying to define, and I've said this a number of times over the last week, we're trying to define and clarify expectations,'' McLellan said. ''We can't give ourselves permission to be average. We're better than average and we have to play that way.''

They sure haven't during this latest funk. The Sharks showed signs of progress by beating Los Angeles, Anaheim and Chicago in successive games surrounding the All-Star break.

But a home loss to last-place Edmonton started this latest slump as San Jose has allowed 38 goals in the past 11 games. Poor defensive play has been a constant for most of the season as the Sharks are allowing their most goals per game since 2005-06 - when offensive numbers spiked in the first year following the lockout.

There have been other problems as well, including inconsistent goaltending from Antti Niemi and a lack of depth scoring. Patrick Marleau is on pace for his fewest goals since his rookie year in 1997-98, second-year player Tomas Hertl has been in a season-long scoring slump and the Sharks have been unable to generate any consistent scoring from their bottom two lines.

That will need to change over these next seven weeks if the Sharks are to have a chance to make the playoffs.

''We'll fight until the end of the season,'' forward Logan Couture said. ''We'll push as hard as we can to make the playoffs. If we don't make it, shame on us.''

Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- Louisville 52, Georgia Tech 51-- Cards were down 13 in second half.

-- St John's 58, Xavier 57-- Game of spurts; Red Storm won five of last six.

-- Kansas State 70, Kansas 63-- K-State has to do a better job of security after games, someone is going to get hurt with ridiculous court storming.

-- Did the Red Sox sign Yoan Moncada as a precursor to a Cole Hamels trade?

-- Did the Miami Heat lower ticket prices when Lebron James skipped town?

-- UCLA hired former Penn State DC Tom Bradley as defensive coordinator; these college coaches are nomads, many of them. Change jobs a lot.

**********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Ranking the months of the year.......

Keep in mind I live in the northeast, so weather is a factor in these rankings.......

12) January-- 31 days of potentially horrible weather. NFL playoffs help, college hoop helps, golf on TV helps, but if you live in upstate NY, January generally sucks.

11) February-- Same as January, except three days shorter and spring training starts, though the exhibition games belong to March. Since I'm retired now, Monday holidays in January/February don't help this rating anymore- every day is a holiday.

10) May-- NBA/NHL playoffs, baseball and better weather, not much else.

9) June-- US Open, NBA Finals, summer starts and if you're a kid or a teacher, school ends for the summer, but I'm not a kid or a teacher.

8) April-- Opening Day of baseball is special, college hoop Final Four, playoffs start in NBA/NHL, the Masters and winter is officially over. Plus I usually go to Las Vegas in April, though this year my trip is in March.

7) October-- World Series, football, some downtime in between baseball and basketball seasons. If you've never done Halloween in Las Vegas, its quite an experience.

6) March-- NCAA tournament is my favorite event of the year, but other than that and spring training baseball, March is a slightly better version of February.

5) August is a great month to live in upstate New York, lot of fun stuff going on and it is only the end of summer if you're a kid/teacher. Plus football season is approaching so there's lot of studying to be done, preferably ourdoors by a pool.

4) July-- Horse racing in Saratoga, me in Las Vegas for couple weeks-- NBA Summer League, lot of AAU games, baseball's All-Star Game, the British Open, even start of NFL training camps. July is a very good month.

3) September-- Football starts, baseball pennant races, a very interesting month.

2) November-- Ton of activity; college hoop starts, college football winds down, NFL, NHL, NBA; when I was working, you also had two days off in there. Election Night is an underrated night of good live TV, if its an even-numbered year.

1) December-- Bowl games, college hoop, end of the NFL regular season, Christmas, New Year's Eve, hey its my birthday too!!! So what if it snows sometimes.....

Red Wings' LW Henrik Zetterberg, Doubtful Tuesday

Zetterberg missed Monday's game due to an upper-body injury and is not expected to play Tuesday against the Kings.

Canucks' G Ryan Miller, Early April

Miller is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a lower-body injury.

Schneider making Devils a hot under play

The New Jersey Devils continue to be one of the hottest under plays in the NHL thanks in large part to the play of goaltender Cory Schneider.

With Schneider making 38 saves in the Devils 3-0 shutout win over the Arizona Coyotes Monday night, New Jersey went under yet another total. The under is 9-1-1 in Schneider's last 11 starts, in a streak that has seen him give up just 1.54 goals per game.

The streak has made the Devils the NHL's third best under play at 20-35-5 O/U.

Next up, Schneider and the Devils host the Calgary Flames Wednesday.

Darling to start for Blackhawks Tuesday

According to Chris Kuc, hockey writer for the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Blackhawks will give Scott Darling the start in goal as they host the Florida Panthers Tuesday evening.

Chicago is currently mired in a three-game losing streak which includes a 6-2 loss versus the Boston Bruins Sunday. Starting goaltender Corey Crawford was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 14 shots.

Darling has made seven starts already this season and owns a 5-2 record, 1.97 goals against average and .937 save percentage.

The Blackhawks are presently -210 favorites with the Panthers in town.

Gustavsson to make first start in over two months

Gustavsson did make an appearance for the Red Wings on Feb. 21, when he spelled Jimmy Howard is a 7-6 Detroit win.

Currently, the Red Wings are +129 when they travel to Los Angeles Tuesday.

Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Derrick Rose is having knee surgery, so he's on the shelf again. Hopefully, when he heals, he won't play in any more useless summer tournaments.

-- Arkansas 81, Texas A&M 75-- Hogs led 33-9 in this game, were up 23 at half.

-- Maryland 59, Wisconsin 53-- Signature win for the Terrapins.

-- NC State 58, North Carolina 46-- Least points UNC has scored in Deandome, and that covers thirty seasons.

-- Missouri 64, Florida 52-- Gators were 9-23 on foul line, PG Hill was 1-8. Oy.

-- Niagara 82, Canisius 71-- Pretty big upset in the MAAC.

**********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud......

13) Lebron James has a 10-year old son, Lebron Jr. There is no need for ESPN to show this kid playing youth basketball-- let the kid be a kid.

Wayne Gretzky's son wound up playing pro baseball; neither one of Michael Jordan's sons wound up finishing their college hoop career. Its hard as hell having a dad who you can't possibly be as good as-- no need to put a 10-year old on national TV.

12) Now that the Red Sox have this Moncada kid, they have a lot more depth in their position players than they do on the mound; are they stockpiling players, hoping to pry Cole Hamels from Philly?

11) If my job depended on drafting the right QB this spring, I'd have two really big questions about Jameis Winston:
a) Does he really want to play football, or does he want to try baseball too?
b) His weight would be a concern to me; thats a red flag about his dedication.

10) In the entire 2014 season, Marcus Mariota took five snaps under center. Five. The rest were shotgun snaps. Oregon never huddles, so a 1st-round draft pick QB has to learn the basics of running an NFL huddle-- thats a big adjustment, on top of all the other things he has to learn, in addition to adjusting to the speed of the game.

9) September 4, Friday night of Labor Day weekend: Washington at Boise State, the return of former Boise coach Chris Petersen, who now runs the Huskies' program. No one who has left Boise State has equalled the success they had on the blue turf.

8) UCLA quietly hired former Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, right after the recruiting period ended. This way, he gets to coach a season before he has to recruit and possibly answer questions about the Penn State debacle that he lived through. Good football coach, he will help Jim Mora Jr's team.

7) It bears repeating that Snoop Dawg and Jim Mora Sr will both be in the Rose Bowl next fall, cheering on their sons with the Bruins. ESPN has to get an interview with these two football dads, two of the most opposite people in the history of man.

6) If you care about such things, ACC home favorites of 5+ points are 14-26 against the spread this season, which shows that the league has no dominant team. Conference tournament in couple of weeks is going to be something.

5) Wyoming gets star forward Larry Nance Jr (mono) back tonight; doubt he is 100%, but they need anything they can get from him. Cowboys are on the bubble but stand a pretty good chance in a wide open Mountain West tourney. League is down this year. New Mexico won last three tourneys; they won't this year.

4) Guy named Scott Walker might win the Republican nomination for President, but he isn't a college graduate.

Fair question: Should the President of the US be a college graduate?

Last non-graduate candidate to win a major party nomination was Barry Goldwater in 1964; last president who wasn't a college graduate was Harry Truman, and he was a pretty damned good President.

One other question: Walker went to Marquette for a couple of years. Why did he leave? How does a college dropout become such a successful politician?

3) Alabama has a young man on its golf team: Davis Love IV. Think their golf booster club has some deep pockets? If I remember right, Davis Love III went to North Carolina and introduced Michael Jordan to golf.

2) By the way, I had never heard this before, but in order for a PGA golfer to get into the Hall of Fame, he either has to have won 15 PGA tournaments or two majors.

1) Watched a replay of the Florida-Missouri game. Sometimes, you see a team that will just be really happy when the season ends. That team is Florida; they're just awful, losing to a Missouri club that had lost 13 games in a row. Florida's point guard goes 1-8 on the foul line-- what college point guard goes 1-8 on the line?

They've given up on the season and appear anxious for it to be over.

See spot. See spot bet: This week's best spot bet opportunities

Letdown spot

NBA fans are treated to a potential Finals preview with the Golden State Warriors visiting the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday night. These teams have identical 6-2 records in February, heading into Tuesday, and if the NBA futures are right, Cavs priced at +300 and Warriors priced at +400, they will be battling for the league title this spring.

But after the smoke has cleared and the dust settles Thursday, Golden State must travel overnight to the Great White North to face another of the NBA’s elite. The Toronto Raptors are waiting to sink their claws into the Warriors, who are ripe for a letdown in the Air Canada Centre. Toronto was smashed by 21 points in the Bay Area back in January and would love to return the favor Friday.

Lookahead spot

The BYU Cougars are long shots to make the NCAA tournament, sitting third in the West Coast Conference behind projected No. 1 seed Gonzaga and St. Mary’s. It’s not completely crazy to think three WCC schools could go to the Big Dance and in order for that to happen, the Cougars must boost their NCAA portfolio with a win over the Bulldogs this weekend.

With BYU setting its sights on the Zags Saturday, the Cougars could look past this week’s opponent Portland. They travel to the Earle A. Chiles Center Thursday night. The Pilots had strung together four straight wins before road losses at St. Mary’s and Pacific (in overtime). Portland showed it has the offensive firepower to keep pace with BYU and could spoil the Cougars’ tournament hopes before they get a shot at Gonzaga.

Schedule spot

The Ottawa Senators escape the horrid winter weather in Canada’s capital with a West Coast road trip this week, dropping the puck in Anaheim Wednesday night. The Sens went 3-2 during a five-game home stand but now play five in a row on the road, including three games in four nights to end the month. Ottawa is just 10-13-3-2 away from the Canadian Tire Centre this season.

Following Wednesday’s game with the Ducks, the Senators stay in Los Angeles to face the Kings Thursday, then have a day off to travel to San Jose to play the Sharks Saturday. Ottawa is outside of the playoff picture heading into this tough stretch of schedule and a couple quick losses could have the front office packing it in for the season, playing the prospects, and sizing up potential deals before the trade deadline. Keep an eye on the Sens motivation come Saturday in San Jose.

Blackhawks' RW Patrick Kane, Out indefinitely

Kane could miss up to ten weeks with an upper-body injury.

Red-hot Hammond gets start for Senators Wednesday

The Ottawa Senators will give Andrew Hammond the start in net as the team visits the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday evening.

It will be the third-straight start for Hammond who was called up from Ottawa's AHL affiliate in Binghamton on Jan. 29 when Craig Anderson went on injured reserve.

Hammond has two starts and three appearances in total so far this season. Heading into Wednesday night's matchup, he has a record of 2-0-0, 2.13 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

At present, the Sens are +170 underdogs for the game and oddsmakers have a total of 5.5 on the board.

Capitals save best hockey for Penguins

The Washington Capitals seem to be undergoing somewhat of a renaissance under new head coach Barry Trotz. Symbolic of this is the way the Caps have played hockey against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The pair have met three times already this season and the Capitals have won all three, outscoring the Pens 10-1 in those games. Prior to their new found success against Pittsburgh, the Caps lost eight-straight games to the Pens.

The two will renew aquaintances Wednesday evening in Washington and oddsmakers opened the Caps as -116 favorites but that has been adjusted to -120. Furthermore, the total opened 5.5 but is now five.

Jets extend over streak to five

The Winnipeg Jets extended their streak of going over totals to five consecutive games by topping the Dallas Stars 4-2 Tuesday night.

The streak should be no surprise as the Jets have been a top over play in the NHL all season, posting a 33-25-4 over/under. That makes them the third best over play in the league.

Over bettors will hope the streak continues when the Jets host the St. Louis Blues Thursday.

Kings edge Red Wings for eighth win in a row

The Los Angeles Kings have started their playoff push early, edging the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 Tuesday night for their eighth consecutive win.

The Kings, who were on the outside of the playoff picture looking in before the streak started and now sit in third place in the Pacific Division.

Los Angeles goes for nine in a row when they host the Ottawa Senators Thursday.

Armadillo: Thursday's six-pack

-- Duke 91, Virginia Tech 86 OT-- Refs pulled Dukies thru in this one, even though game was in Blacksburg.

-- Davidson 60, Rhode Island 59-- A-14 tourney is going to be tremendous.

-- Richmond 67, VCU 63, 2OT-- Rams led late in OT after being down 16 in second half, but gave up tying layup and lost in second OT.

-- Northwestern 72, Indiana 65-- Bad loss for Tom Crean.

-- Baylor 79, Iowa State 70-- Scott Drew doesn't enough credit for what he does.

-- Missouri State 80, Bradley 77, 3OT-- Two lousy teams played a great game.

**********

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Looking thru some college hoop stuff......

13) Big West-- Cal-Davis has a two-game lead over Irvine. Long Beach lost its last four games, is in middle of the pack. Riverside is a much-improved team.

12) Mountain West-- Down year in this league; San Diego State is far and away the best team, but they struggle to score. Not sure Boise or Colorado State will get into the NCAAs if they don't win the conference tournament.

11) MAC-- Central Michigan is 11-4, three other teams are 10-5. This conference tournament is always chaotic in Cleveland; this year will be no different.

10) MVC-- Wichita and Northern Iowa, Northern Iowa and Wichita. Anyone else winning conference tourney would be huge upset. Teams play Saturday in Wichita.

9) AAC-- SMU and Tulsa are tied at top, but Cincinnati's defense is a good as aoyone. UConn is damn good #6 seed, but league drops way off after that.

8) Atlantic 14-- Four teams are 11-4; two others are 9-6. VCU, Davidson look good for NCAAs; everyone else needs to win conference tourney.

Needs to be pointed out here how many conferences have wide-open races; other than Kentucky, Wisconsin and maybe Gonzaga, every team in the country has glaring flaws-- aren't many deep teams.

7) WCC-- Gonzaga is to this league what UNLV was to the Big West 25 years ago, in Tark the Shark's heydey. Bulldogs have a 4-game lead, but has this league prepared the Zags for the rigors of March Madness?

6) Pac-12-- Arizona is best team, but if Stanley Johnson has a rough night, who picks up the slack? Could be a two-bid league, with Wildcats and Utah.

5) SEC-- Three teams behind Kentucky all lost their last game, two of them at home. Florida has had a dismal season. Luckily spring football practice starts soon.

4) Big 14-- Purdue has been a pleasant surprise, so has Maryland, but Purdue also lost to Gardner-Webb and North Florida. Four teams are locks; Indiana/Illinois are bubblicious-- Purdue and Iowa are close to being in.

3) ACC-- Five teams are locks, but North Carolina is playing lousy and Duke damn near got beat at Virginia Tech last night. Virginia needs to get healthy, Louisville has no point guard and Notre Dame is soft on defense.

2) Big East-- Not sure what to make of this league. Villanova has a 3-game lead, but this is a league where everyone else has at least eight losses. Butler is a pleasant surprise. DePaul has improved, but they're still in sixth place.

1) Big X-- League is just too hard; Home teams are 50-26, 4th-best home win %age in country. Texas is in 8th place but is #21 nationally in KenPom rankings.

Visiting teams triumph on the ice Wednesday

Granted, it was a light schedule in the NHL Wednesday evening, but road teams proved a profitable venture winning all three games on the board.

The Calgary Flames, +105 dogs, defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1, the Pittsburgh Penguins (+105) finally solved the Washington Capitals this season winning 4-3 and the Ottawa Senators (+165) again rode the stellar goaltending of Andrew Hammond to a 3-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Season to date, road teams are now 409-383-57-60 straight up. There are nine games on the board around the league Thursday.

Sabres awful offense an under bettors' dream

In the Buffalo Sabres last 10 games they have an over/under record of 1-9 thanks to their poor offense. The Sabres are averaging a mere 1.7 goals in those 10 games and have only scored multiple goal game four times.

Buffalo will welcome the Vancouver Canucks Thursday with a goal total set at 5.0.

NHL roundup: Pens edge Caps, avoid season sweep

WASHINGTON -- Center Evgeni Malkin has three assists and center Sidney Crosby added his 20th goal of the season to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night at the Verizon Center.

The Penguins avoided a series sweep with the victory and moved three points ahead of the Capitals in the Metropolitan Division standings. They are one point behind the second-place New York Rangers, who have two games in hand on the Penguins and three on the Capitals.

Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fluery stopped 21 of 24 shots to improve to 28-13-6. Capitals netminder Braden Holtby allowed four goals on 26 shots to fall to 29-14-9.

Right winger Patric Hornqvist, center Brandon Sutter and left winger Chris Kunitz joined Crosby with goals for the Penguins, who have won three straight games since losing to the Capitals 3-1 in Pittsburgh on Feb. 17.

Defenseman John Carlson, right winger Troy Brouwer and left winger Alex Ovechkin scored goals for the Capitals, who have lost back-to-back games in regulation for the first time since Jan. 16-17.

Flames 3, Devils 1

NEWARK, N.J. -- Left winger Curtis Glencross and center Sean Monahan each scored a goal in a span of 48 seconds over two periods and goaltender Karri Ramo made 26 saves in goal, leading Calgary to victory over New Jersey at the Prudential Center.

The victory enabled the Flames to move past idle Minnesota into eighth place in the Western Conference standings and improve to 1-1 on their current season-long seven-game road trip.

Flames defenseman T.J. Brodie scored an empty-net goal and left winger Mike Cammalleri scored for New Jersey. Goaltender Corey Schneider made 23 saves in vain for the Devils.

Ducks 3, Senators 0

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Goalie Andrew Hammond led Ottawa to a win over Anaheim at Honda Center, moving to 3-0-0 on the season and marking the first time his team won three straight games since October.

Hammond earned his first career shutout, making 25 saves while his Ducks goalie John Gibson stopped 31 of 33 shots.

Left winger Erik Condra scored for Ottawa, as did centers Mika Zibanejad and Kyle Turris.
