Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

Six of the more interesting college football matchups this weekend........

-- West Virginia @ TCU (-14)-- Three meetings were decided by total of 5 points.

-- Clemson (-10) @ NC State-- This is Miami/Florida State sandwich for Tigers

-- Ole Miss (-7) @ Auburn-- Rebels lost to Auburn last two years.

-- Stanford (-12) @ Washington State-- Coogs won three in row, scoring 47.3 ppg.

-- Georgia vs Florida (-2.5)-- World's largest cocktail party in Jacksonville.

-- USC (-6) @ Cal-- Trojans won their last 11 games against Golden Bears.

**********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud........

13) Royals 5, Mets 4 (14)-- Tremendous start to World Series; team that won Game 1 in last 20 years won 17 of those 20 series. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Royals P Edinson Volquez, who lost his dad Tuesday afternoon.

12) People Can Be Scumbags Dept: A kid in Queens turns 12 November 3rd; for his 12th birthday, the little tyke wanted a bat signed by Daniel Murphy, which cost $175.

This was before Murphy turned into Ty Cobb against the Cubs in the NLCS, so when his parents got an e-mail from Topps.com cancelling the sale, they went to the papers with their story and the NY Daily News ran with it.

Exposed for being scumbags, Topps and the MLB Alumni Association relented and sold the kid his bat for $175. Thats the power of the press!!!!

11) Idle thought: the kid lives in Queens. Wouldn't it have been easier to buy a bat, hang around Citi Field and get Murphy to sign the bat? Not like he is Lebron James, it can't be that hard to meet the guy and get an autograph.

10) Speaking of baseball memorabilia, Geddy Lee, the lead singer for Rush, has a big collection-- he has both baseballs from Johnny VanderMeer's back/back no-hitters.

9) Ravens, Cowboys both have zero takeaways in their last four games. It is very tough to win NFL games without creating takeaways.

8) Jets have 15 takeaways in six games; they had 14 all of last season.

7) In NFL history, there have been 14 plays of 99 yards; the two I remember most are a Jaworski-to-Mike Quick pass (against Atlanta, I think) and a Tony Dorsett run in Minnesota on Monday Night Football when the Metrodome first opened.

Record that probably never gets broken: in the late 60's, Jets had a punter named Steve O'Neal who had a 98-yard punt in Denver. Hard to break that record.

6) Speaking of the Jets, I hope Ryan Fitzpatrick writes a book someday; guy has been on six NFL teams, four in last four years and he is still starting!!! Not only that he has five kids and made the NFL after playing college ball at Harvard, so he didn't get a sports scholarship but is a starter in the NFL. His story needs to be told.

5) Baltimore actually gave the Rams a 7th-round draft pick for WR Chris Givens, who runs very fast but wasn't very productive in St Louis. Seriously, why would you trade for a WR the Rams didn't want-- they're desperate for productive WRs.

4) Mets TV announcer Ron Darling: "Today's guns are not right", speaking about the radar guns that supposedly show how fast pitchers throw. Darling is really smart, but his most interesting quotes come off-camera, which is too bad.

3) Two years ago, Temple was a 29.5-point underdog to Notre Dame in the season opener; Saturday, Owls are 7-0, College Game Day is coming to town and the game is on at ABC nationally at 8:00. Temple is a 10-point home dog in this game.

2) Basketball great John Stockton will be an assistant coach at Montana State, for the women's team this season. His daughter Lindsay is a senior on the team; one of the Bobcats' assistants quit recently, so Stockton took her place for this year.

1) Texans cut Ryan Mallett; apparently coach O'Brien and GM Smith both agreed to cut Mallett, but Smith wouldn't let it happen until after Sunday's game, since Texans still needed a backup QB in Miami. TJ Yates will be the new backup; very curious to see if anyone else gives Mallett a chance.

Thunder seeing majority of wagers in outright market

The 2015-16 NBA season tips off Tuesday night and it is the Oklahoma City Thunder seeing the majority of the action in the outright market according to Pinnacle Sports.

According to the online sportsbook, 35 percent of the total wagers in the outright market have been placed on the Thunder.

The team with the next highest amount of wagers is the Cleveland Cavaliers at 24 percent. They are followed by the Clippers and Spurs at 9 percent and the Warriors and Rockets are at 8 percent. All the other teams are at 7 percent combined.

Lakers expect Bryant to play in opener

Kobe Bryant is expected to be on the floor for his 20th NBA season when the Los Angeles Lakers open Wednesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Staples Center.

There have been some questions about Bryant's health leading up to the opener, but Lakers coach Byron Scott said a leg contusion that limited the veteran guard in practice wouldn't keep him off the floor "unless something crazy happens" before tipoff.

"Yeah, I told him if he couldn't go (Sunday), (Monday) we could start worrying," Scott said. "He walked out (Sunday), he said it felt good. He gave me a thumbs-up. Went through the scrimmage and everything. You can see a little rust, but other than that, he was moving pretty fluid again. It was just good to see."

Lakers teammate Metta World Peace said Bryant seemed fine.

"He played well. He was shooting in people’s faces," World Peace said. "The white team was beating up the purple team."

SAN ANTONIO SPURS (0-0) at OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER (0-0)

Tip-off: Wednesday, 8:05 p.m. ET
Sportsbook.ag Line and Total: Oklahoma City -5, Total: 208.5

Two of the elite teams in the powerful NBA Western Conference will begin their 2015-16 campaigns on Wednesday when the Spurs visit the Thunder.

San Antonio (55-27 SU) was able to win 50 games for a 16th straight season in 2014-15, but failed to advance in the playoffs with a heart-breaking, first-round loss to the Clippers in seven games on a Chris Paul buzzer-beater. But the team expects to far exceed that result this season after bringing in high-priced All-Star PF LaMarcus Aldridge from Portland.

Oklahoma City will be playing its first game under new head coach Billy Donovan, who won two national titles at Florida. He takes over a team with two superstars in SF Kevin Durant and NBA scoring leader SG Russell Westbrook, and is looking to lead the club back to the postseason after the team fell short with a 45-37 record, ending a run of five straight playoff berths.

These teams met three times last season with the Thunder winning 114-106 at home on Christmas Day before the Spurs recorded a pair of blowouts in March (130-91) and April (113-88). San Antonio wasn't a great road wager last season at 23-22 ATS and was a dreadful 5-15-1 ATS with at least two days' rest.

Last season, Oklahoma City was a profitable bet at home (23-18 ATS) and loved the home underdog role too at 6-2 ATS. But this club also struggled when well-rested at 3-13 ATS with at least two off days.

Durant is still not fully recovered from foot surgery, but is expected to play on Wednesday night. Teammate C Mitch McGary (concussion) is also probable, but PF Enes Kanter is questionable with a sprained right ankle. The Spurs begin the season with no significant injuries.

San Antonio didn't have a whole lot of flaws last season with an offense that scored 103.2 PPG (7th in NBA) on 46.8% FG (3rd in league), 36.7% threes (6th in NBA) and 78.0% FT (4th in league). The club also dished out 24.4 APG (5th in NBA), but was weak on the offensive glass with only 9.8 offensive RPG (27th in league).

The defense was tough in holding teams to 97.0 PPG (3rd in NBA) on 44.4% FG (13th in league) with 5.4 BPG (8th in NBA) and 8.0 SPG (11th in league). The one negative is that the Spurs didn't defend the three-point arc very well and allowed teams to shoot 36.0% from downtown (24th in NBA).

An addition that will give a boost to the team's offensive numbers is PF LaMarcus Aldridge, who averaged 23.4 PPG and 10.2 RPG for the Blazers last season. In three games versus the Thunder, Aldridge scored 27.0 PPG on a subpar 41% FG, but added 9.3 RPG, 2.7 APG and 1.3 BPG.

Five players averaged double-figures for the Spurs last season, led by SF Kawhi Leonard (16.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG), who also won the Defensive Player of the Year Award with a league-high 2.3 SPG. Leonard averaged a team-high 20.0 PPG on 63% FG in two games versus the Thunder last season, while future Hall of Fame PF Tim Duncan (15.9 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.0 BPG) added 14.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG and 2.3 BPG over three meetings.

Another long-time star, PG Tony Parker (14.4 PPG, 4.9 APG), is feeling great entering his 15th season, saying he wants to play another five seasons until he's 38 years old. Parker averaged 11.0 PPG on 55% FG with 4.3 APG and 1.3 SPG in three meetings with Oklahoma City last season.

SGs Danny Green (11.7 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 42% threes) and Manu Ginobili (10.5 PPG, 4.2 APG, 1.0 SPG) were the other double-digit scorers for the Spurs last season and the duo combined for 19.3 PPG in last season's series with the Thunder, with Ginobili draining 50% FG (40% threes) and Green making 46% FG and 43% threes.

Oklahoma City's new head coach Billy Donovan inherits an offense that averaged a strong 105.0 PPG (5th in NBA), but made only 44.7% FG (18th in league), 33.9% threes (23rd in NBA) and 75.4% FT (14th in league). The Thunder were also too careless with the basketball (14.7 TOPG, 19th in NBA) and dished out only 20.5 APG (25th in league).

Defensively, they surrendered 101.8 PPG (24th in NBA) despite holding teams to 44.0% FG (9th in league) and 34.3% threes (10th in NBA). These shooting percentages benefited from 5.5 BPG (6th in league) and Oklahoma City didn't give up easy shots by dominating the glass with 47.5 RPG and 12.8 offensive RPG, both of which led the NBA.

SF Kevin Durant played only 27 games last season, but still averaged 25.4 PPG (51% FG, 40% threes), 6.6 RPG and 4.1 APG. He didn't face the Spurs once last season, but in the 2013-14 campaign, Durant dropped 26.3 PPG and 8.0 RPG in four meetings.

With Durant missing so much time, SG Russell Westbrook took it upon himself to shoot more and he wound up leading the NBA with 28.1 PPG on 43% FG and 30% threes while adding 8.6 APG, 7.3 RPG and a league-high 11 triple doubles. Westbrook also had great success against the Spurs last season with 22.3 PPG, 6.7 APG and a hefty 4.3 SPG.

PF Serge Ibaka also gave San Antonio fits last season with 21.0 PPG (53% FG) and 9.0 RPG, which were considerably higher than his season averages of 14.3 PPG (48% FG) and 7.8 RPG. One player the team is hoping has a big season is SG Andre Roberson, who averaged only 3.4 PPG in 19.1 MPG last season, but is the projected starter for the 2015-16 campaign.

Armadillo: Thursday's six-pack

-- Royals 7, Mets 1-- Series heads to NYC with Kansas City up 2-0.

-- Royals have Paul Mondesi on the active roster for the World Series; he has never played in a big league game, but is eligible because he is on the 40-man roster.

-- New Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry brought Navy SEALS in to talk to his team about perseverance and teamwork. Pelicans have early injury issues.

-- Iowa State fired OC/former Kansas HC Mark Mangino. It won't help.

-- Michael Conforto is first ballplayer to have an RBI in the Little League WS, the college WS and the real World Series.

-- Jets cut punter Steve Weatherford, who nets $51K for punting four times and holding for five kicks in the Jet-Patriot game Sunday.

**********

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: NBA knowledge to start season with.......

While most of you were sleeping the other night, I was reading basketball previews; here is some of what I learned........
13) Steve Kerr did a great job, winning an NBA title in his first year as a head coach; will his success make it tougher for other first-year head coaches, like Billy Donovan in Oklahoma City? Team owners are rich people; rich people can be impatient.

12) Toronto Raptors paid DeMarre Carroll $60M for four years because they need to be better on defense and Carroll is an excellent defender.

11) Only four guys in NBA last year averaged 17+ ppg, 6.1+ assists/game and 5.2+ rebounds/game: Lebron James, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Eric Bledsoe.

10) Lance Stephenson was 18-105 behind the arc LY, thats 17.1%, the worst %age for any player ever who took 100+ 3's in a season. Clippers added him, Josh Smith, who Stan VanGundy paid $26M, just for him to leave Detroit. Interesting.

9) Portland only has six guys back from LY; they reduced payroll from $72.9M to $50.3M, reducing it by 31%. Damion Lillard scored 1,720 points LY; the other five returnees scored a combined 1,580. Could be a long winter in Oregon.

8) Orlando took 1,565 foul shots LY (19.1/game) LY, 4th-lowest by any team in NBA history, in the 82-game era. Hard to win that way.

7) Brad Stevens may have come to the NBA from college, but he is highly respected among his peers; there are NBA coaches who copy his after-timeout plays. There are so many timeouts in NBA games, those plays make a big difference in a close game.

6) Russell Westbrook scored 593 points in transition LY, 79 more than anyone else. Going to be interesting to see how the Thunder play under coach Donovan, especially Westbrook, who has tried to take games over by himself in the past.

5) Washington Wizards want to play faster this year; they were 18th in possessions LY; John Wall says they want to be in the top 5 this season.

4) Wilt Chamberlain, Elvin Hayes, Damian Lillard are only three players who led NBA in minutes played as a rookie; LY, Minnesota's Andrew Wiggins missed leading the league last year........by 12 minutes.

3) In Jason Kidd's first year in Milwaukee, Bucks improved from 30th in defensive rating to 4th; Milwaukee has lot of good young players, is an interesting team.

2) Kemba Walker took 280 3-pointers LY, but made only 30.4%, which isn't good. he needs to either take less of them or make more of them. 30.4% ain't cutting it.

1) Denver rookie PG Emmanuel Mudiay skipped college and played pro ball in China LY, but he only played in 12 games there because of injuries. He is really good but he is also really inexperienced; his career is an interesting case study on kids who may not want to go to college before they hit the NBA.

Home openers have been good to Pacers backers

The Indiana Pacers are riding a five-game winning streak in their past five home openers, the previous four of which have come with Frank Vogel as head coach.

The five-game streak has produced a very respectable 4-1 record against the spread with the only ATS loss coming as a 12-point home favorite in a 97-87 win over the Orlando Magic to kick off the 2013-14 season.

Vogel and the Pacers host the Memphis Grizzlies as 2.5-point home dogs in their home opener Thursday evening.

ATLANTA HAWKS at NEW YORK KNICKS

Tip-off: Thursday, 8:00 p.m. ET
Sportsbook.ag Line: Hawks -4, Total 199

The Hawks will be seeking to build on last season’s success on Thursday as they make their first road trip of the season at the lowly Knicks.

Atlanta is coming off its best season in franchise history, and is hoping to soar even higher this year. The Hawks won 60 games (60-22 SU) and were 55-40-3 ATS (58%, 2nd-best in NBA) including the playoffs, en route to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference. The season came to a halt in the conference finals, where Atlanta was swept in four games by Cleveland. The team benefited greatly from a home-court advantage (40-9 SU) as opposed to playing on the road (28-21 SU), though they were a slightly better bet in away games (27-19-3 ATS) than in Atlanta (28-21 ATS).

At the bottom of the Eastern Conference, New York had a historically bad season in 2014-2015, setting a team record for losses with a 17-65 mark and going 34-46-2 ATS (43%, T-3rd-worst in league). The Knicks proved to be a worse bet at Madison Square Garden (16-25 ATS, 39%, T-4th-lowest NBA) than on the road (18-20-2 ATS), and were awful in the second half of back-to-backs (3-18 SU, 9-12 ATS), which is the scenario they are in for Thursday after a trip to Milwaukee to open the season.

In three meetings between the teams last season, Atlanta was 2-1 (SU and ATS), though New York squeaked by the Hawks in the last matchup 112-108.

The Hawks roster is in good health, as F/G Thabo Sefolosha (ankle) is the only questionable player for Thursday. For New York, there are some notable injuries with SG Arron Afflalo (hamstring) doubtful, PF Lou Amundson (back) questionable and SF Carmelo Anthony (knee) and C Robin Lopez (undisclosed) both probable.

Atlanta’s offense was solid last season, with 101.8 PPG (11th in league) on 46.0% FG (5th in NBA) and a sharp-shooting 36.9% on threes (T-2nd in league). The team truly played as a disciplined unit under NBA Coach of the Year Mike Budenholzer, averaging 26.8 assists per game (2nd in NBA) and committing a league-low 18.1 personal fouls per game.

The Hawks’ defense was similarly proficient, tying for 5th in the NBA with 97.3 PPG allowed, 43.7% FG, and 15.1 turnovers generated per game. Atlanta will be attempting to replicate last season’s success without SF DeMarre Carroll (12.6 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.7 APG), who signed with the Toronto Raptors in the offseason, but hope to fill his shoes with the newly-acquired C Tiago Splitter and SG Tim Hardaway Jr.

The team will once again have great balance with underrated PG Jeff Teague (16.8 PPG, 6.7 APG) running the show, PF Paul Millsap (15.2 PPG, 8.7 RPG) and C Al Horford (14.4 PPG, 8.6 RPG) down low and SG Kyle Korver (11.1 PPG, 36% threes) providing the long-range shooting. Korver was the club's top scorer versus New York last season with 21.0 PPG on 48% threes, while Millsap averaged 15.0 PPG and 8.5 RPG and Teague chipped in 13.7 PPG, 6.7 APG and only 1.7 TOPG.

New York’s offensive statistics last season reflected their worst-in-the-conference record. The team scored a league-low 91.9 PPG on 42.8% FG (28th in NBA), but was perfectly average from beyond the arc, shooting 34.7% (tied for 15th in league).

The Knicks also had difficulty on the boards at 48.5 RPG (29th in NBA) and struggled in other defensive facets, as they allowed 101.2 PPG (19th in league) on 46.0% FG (tied for 26th in NBA), and were particularly susceptible to three-point shots, allowing a league-worst 38.0% from downtown. New York parted ways with Hardaway (for Atlanta’s 1st Round draft pick) and C Jason Smith, but hopes several key additions – including fourth overall pick PF Kristaps Porzingis, C Robin Lopez, SG Arron Afflalo, C Kyle O’Quinn, and PF Derrick Williams – will help the team turn their fortunes around this season.

The offense will still revolve around SF Carmelo Anthony, who averaged 24.2 PPG (5th in NBA among players with 40+games) and 6.6 RPG last season, including 22.5 PPG, 9.0 RPG and 4.5 APG in two games versus Atlanta.

DALLAS MAVERICKS at LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

Tip-off: Thursday, 10:30 p.m. ET
Sportsbook.ag Line: Clippers -11, Total 210

The Mavericks hope to spoil the Clippers’ home opener Thursday in a Western Conference showdown.

Dallas was 50-32 last regular season, good enough for the seventh seed in the Western Conference. The team was also 35-48-4 ATS (42%) including its playoffs appearance when it lost in five games to Houston. The Mavericks were 23-21 SU in road games last season, but just 19-24-1 ATS (44%). After traveling to Phoenix to open the 2015-16 campaign, Dallas will be playing Thursday on zero days' rest, a situation in which it performed a subpar 6-11 ATS mark (35%) last season.

Los Angeles earned the No. 3 seed in the West with a franchise-best 56 wins (56-26 SU) but were just 44-51-1 ATS (47%) including playoffs where the team took out the Spurs in a thrilling seven-game series before falling in seven games to Houston in the second round. While the Clippers were a force to be reckoned with at home last season (34-14 SU), they were a poor ATS wager at Staples Center (19-29 ATS, 40%).

L.A. will also play the night before in Sacramento, but this team thrived on back-to-backs last season, going 20-4 SU (10-10 ATS) with zero days rest.

In the past 10 meetings, Dallas is only 3-7 SU and 5-5 ATS versus Los Angeles, finishing 1-2 SU and ATS in their three matchups last season, though the Mavericks thrashed the Clippers 129-99 in their most recent game in March.

Dallas is currently riddled by injuries with C JaVale McGee (leg) out indefinitely and with PG Deron Williams (calf) and SF Chandler Parsons (knee) both questionable for this matchup. The good news is that SG Wesley Matthews is expected to return from a ruptured Achilles.

Los Angeles has two notable injuries with SG Lance Stephenson (groin) listed as questionable and SG Jamal Crawford (tricep) considered probable.

Dallas displayed a high-octane offense last season, averaging 105.5 PPG (3rd in league) on 46.2% FG (4th in NBA). The Mavericks had some difficulties pulling down rebounds at 50.1 RPG (23rd in league), but excelled at protecting the ball in surrendering only 12.6 turnovers per game (tied for 4th in NBA). Dallas’ defense was severely lacking though, as the team spotted opponents an average of 103.0 PPG (25th in league) on 45.1% FG (18th in NBA) and 36.4% three-point shooting (27th in league).

PF Dirk Nowitzki was the high-scorer in the season series with the Clippers, averaging 19.0 PPG on a blistering 56% FG in the three meetings.

The Mavericks saw some high-profile departures in the offseason, including PG Rajon Rondo, C Tyson Chandler, SG/PG Monta Ellis, and SF Al-Farouq Aminu, but will welcome the additions of SG Wes Matthews, PG Deron Williams, C/PF Zaza Pachulia, C JaVale McGee, and 1st round draft pick SG/SF Justin Anderson.

Los Angeles was an offensive juggernaut last season, scoring 106.9 PPG (2nd in NBA) on 47.2% FG (2nd in league), while draining 36.9% of its three-point shots (tied for 2nd in NBA). The team struggled with personal fouls, committing an average of 21.8 per game (26th in league), but coughed up only 11.9 turnovers per game (2nd in NBA). For all of their success on offense, the Clippers’ defensive play was average. The team allowed opponents to score 101.1 PPG (18th in NBA) on 44.3% FG (11th in league) and 35.0% of three-point shots (tied for 15th in NBA).

Los Angeles had five players average at least 16.0 PPG in the series with Dallas last season and all five return to the team this season -- PF Blake Griffin (22.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG in 1 game), SG Jamal Crawford (20.5 PPG in 2 games), PG Chris Paul (17.7 PPG, 11.0 APG in 3 games), C DeAndre Jordan (17.0 PPG, 20.0 RPG in 3 games) and SG J.J. Redick (16.0 PPG, 53% threes in 3 games).

The Clippers parted ways with SF Matt Barnes and C/PF Spencer Hawes, but were quite active in the offseason, acquiring SF Paul Pierce, SG Lance Stephenson, PF Josh Smith, F/G Wes Johnson, PG Pablo Prigioni, and C Cole Aldrich.

Preview: Thunder (1-0) at Magic (0-1)
Date: October 30, 2015 7:00 PM EDT

Although he's revered by many basketball fans in Florida, it won't be surprising if Billy Donovan hears a chorus of boos and taunts upon his return to the Sunshine State.

It's been just over eight years since Donovan parted ways with Orlando after serving as coach for less than a week, and the acrimonious split is sure to be a focal point for some Magic fans when he and the Oklahoma City Thunder visit Amway Center on Friday night.

After winning his NBA debut 112-106 over San Antonio on Wednesday, Donovan may get a mixed reception in Orlando despite a stellar 19-year tenure at the University of Florida that featured four Final Four appearances and back-to-back NCAA championships from 2006-07 with a team that featured current NBA stars Al Horford and Joakim Noah.

Donovan was coming off the second of those titles when he signed a five-year, $27.5 million deal with the Magic in June 2007. However, the coach immediately had a change of heart, and after some back-and-forth legal wrangling that reportedly featured a five-year non-compete clause, he was released from the deal and returned to Gainesville.

"I feel terrible about it," he said at the time. "(The Magic) have great ownership, and they're great people. I feel sorry and have apologized. It was my decision, it was my mistake. I have to take responsibility for that, which I'm trying to do."

The now 50-year-old coach remained at Florida for eight more seasons, finishing his time there with a 467-186 record before the Thunder finally - and fully - lured him back to the NBA this past offseason with a five-year contract worth close to $30 million.

His first game in the league was a success with Oklahoma City rallying from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's victory. Russell Westbrook had 33 points and 10 assists, while Kevin Durant - who missed most of last season with a broken right foot - scored 22 in his first game since February.

"I was very pleased that our guys just kept their composure," Donovan said. "They kept battling, they kept fighting, and I think everyone knew it was going to be a game that was going to come down that way."

Durant shot just 6 of 19 from the floor but hit two free throws with 11.5 seconds left to put the Thunder in control. Enes Kanter had 15 points and 16 rebounds off the bench.

"I know it's one of many games, but to get (Donovan) his first 'W,' especially at home on a big stage against a big-time team felt good," Durant said. "He was calm all night, and that kind of rubbed off on us."

The stage for this upcoming contest may seem big because of Donovan, but Oklahoma City has won seven of the last eight meetings with the Magic. The lone loss did come in Orlando, but Westbrook was inactive for that 103-102 defeat on Feb. 7, 2014.

The Thunder cruised to a 127-99 win in their most recent trip to Orlando on Jan. 18 with Durant's 21 points leading seven players in double figures. They shot a season-best 57.8 percent from the field despite going 9 for 25 from 3-point range.

The Magic's season opener Wednesday against Washington came down to the wire, but John Wall hit a floater with 12.7 seconds to play that gave the Wizards an 88-87 victory.

Orlando had gone ahead by eight early in the fourth quarter before Washington rallied with a 12-0 spurt. The Magic had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Nik Vucevic's jumper bounced off the rim as time expired.

Victor Oladipo scored 17 points and Tobias Harris added 15.

"It's frustrating to be that close in the game and then to not come away with the win," Harris told the team's official website. "It's real disheartening, but with these things, we've got to learn from them."
