Rays, Archer reach agreement on six-year deal
Second-year starting pitcher Chris Archer and the Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a six-year contract worth $25.5 million that includes team options to tie Archer through the team through 2021.
Archer, who starts his first game of the season and 28th of his career Thursday, was acquired in 2011 in a trade with the Chicago Cubs that shipped Matt Garza out of Tampa.
He finished third Rookie of the Year voting last season behind teammate Wil Myers. Archer was 9-7 with a 3.22 ERA in 23 starts last season.
Diamondbacks happy to see Delgado on the mound
Though it's early, not a lot has gone the D-backs way so far this season. They've already manged to amass a 1-3 record.
Randall Delgado will take to the mound Thursday, which should bring some relief for Arizona. In the D-backs past seven games with Delgado starting, the team has walked away with a win in six of those. Arizona has also had opposing pitcher, Tim Lincecum's, number taking six of the past eight when he is on the mound.
Darvish expected back in the rotation Sunday
Good news for the Texas Rangers as Yu Darvish will make his first start of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday.
Darvish had to delay his initial start due to neck stiffness. After throwing an 86-pitch bullpen session Tuesday and feeling no pain Wednesday, the Rangers didn't hesitate to put him back on the mound.
Darvish was 13-9 with a 2.84 ERA and 277 strikeouts while finishing second in Cy Young voting last season.
