Pitcher change - Reds' Johnny Cueto scratched

Cleveland vs. Cincinnati on May 24 at 1:10 PM. New Starter: Raisel Iglesias

Unders have another solid day on the diamond

The under came through for bettors in Major League Baseball action once again, going 10-6 Saturday.

In fact, the under has been the total to bet over the last week, going an impressive 58-35, cashing 62.37 percent of the time.

The recent under run has it catching up the over for the season at 296-313.

Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Top 6 teams as ranked by the Athlon Sports college football magazine, on newsstands everywhere.....

6) USC-- Defense needs to improve after a "disappointing" 9-4 season.

5) TCU-- Four seniors start on their offensive line, with a senior QB

4) Auburn-- Will Muschamp is the new DC; they don't play Florida.

3) Baylor-- Breaking in new QB; play Horned Frogs Nov 27.

2) Alabama-- Only two starters back on offense; they open with Wisconsin.

1) Ohio State-- Their #3 QB would start almost anywhere else.

**********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.......

13) Imagine if the Warriors win the NBA title and Steve Kerr quits as coach to go back to ESPN to replace Jeff Van Gundy if he goes to New Orleans? Would that be a unique situation or what?

12) Tampa Bay Rays lost their GM, their manager, were given up for dead, but on May 24, they're in first place in AL East. Would be nice if their fans support them or they could wind up as the Montreal Expos one of these days.

11) I've heard all the arguments, still don't get the value of a pitcher batting 8thin the lineup; think the only reason some teams do it is because Tony Larussa used to do it, so if its good enough for him, it must be smart. Thing is, Larussa never did it in the playoffs, which is the truest test of what he thought of it.

10) Baseball players whine about playing 162 games, but they don't complain about how long spring training is; this I don't understand.

9) Baseball season is seven weeks old today; I watch a lot of games every day and I'm thinking my favorite analyst right now is Bob Brenly out in Arizona. He talks about the game, he is friendly and you learn stuff listening to him.

8) Mets are 7-14 on the road and David Wright has spinal stenosis; this isn't good for the New Yorkers, who need to use their pitching/catching depth to shore up their lineup and infield defense.

7) Giants split a twinbill in Denver last night; their win streak ended at 8; last time they had a 9-game win streak was in 2004, even though they've won three of the last five World Series.

6) Reds lost seven games in row; manager Brian Bleepin' Price was tossed before the game Saturday for bitching at the guy umpiring second base-- this was at home plate, while exchanging lineup cards.

Johnny Cueto was scratched from Sunday's start with a stiff elbow, so things aren't going too well for Cincinnati right now.

5) One of my favorite movie scenes: Steve Martin runs amuck in Roxanne:

4) Warriors 115, Rockets 80-- I gave up Houston for dead after they fell behind the Clippers 3-1 in last series; this will be a much tougher hill to climb.

3) NBA teams are 0-116 in 7-game series when they trailed 3-0.

2) If you're making a list of all-time great shooters, where is Curry on it?

1) Hank Aaron had 301 more RBI than anyone else who ever played.

Game of the Day: Hawks at Cavaliers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atlanta Hawks at Cleveland Cavaliers (-9, 190)

Cavaliers lead series 2-0

The Atlanta Hawks are becoming short on time and will be without a key player when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers in Sunday’s Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. Atlanta trails 2-0 in the best-of-7 series and announced Saturday that All-Star shooting guard Kyle Korver will miss the rest of the postseason with a severe right ankle sprain.

Korver had 12 points before being injured in Game 2 and the regular-season sharpshooter had a shaky postseason but still represents a big loss for the Hawks. Cleveland held out point guard Kyrie Irving (knee) on Friday and could so again Sunday as it returns home thinking of a sweep. Forward LeBron James has back-to-back 30-point outings in the series and was superb in Game 2 with 30 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. “He helps us elevate our game,” power forward Tristan Thompson told reporters. “Playing with a great player like him just makes you want to get better, makes you want to put the time in watching film and I think that’s what great players do.”

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, TNT

LINE HISTORY: The lines opened at CLE -8, 191, but those dropped to CLE -9, 190 after the announcement of Korver's injury.

INJURY REPORT: Hawks - G Kyle Korver (Ques-Ankle), C Al Horford (Ques-Knee) Cavaliers - G Kyrie Irving (Ques-Knee)

ABOUT THE HAWKS: Two other Atlanta starters are ailing as center Al Horford briefly left Game 2 after hurting his right knee and small forward DeMarre Carroll was largely ineffective after playing with a sprained left knee suffered in Game 1. “I wouldn’t turn this chance down,” Carroll told reporters after having just six points and three rebounds in 34 minutes. “I wouldn’t turn this opportunity down for the world. I would’ve gone out there on one leg.” To remain in the series, the Hawks will hope key reserve Dennis Schroder steps up as well as receiving contributions from substitutes such as Kent Bazemore, Shelvin Mack and Mike Scott.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS: Cleveland didn’t miss Irving in Game 2 as James took a playmaking approach and the Hawks were powerless to defend him. “I have a gift and that’s why I’m able to keep defenses off guard because they say ‘OK, we’re going to make him score or make him pass,’” James said in his postgame press conference. “They really can’t make me do what I don’t want to do. I go out and I play the game the right way.” The loss of power forward Kevin Love (shoulder) for the rest of the playoffs has become a non-issue with Thompson (16 rebounds in Game 2) controlling the boards to help the Cavaliers outrebound Atlanta 96-76 in the first two games.

TRENDS:

*Hawks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home.
*Cavaliers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days.
*Under is 4-0 in Hawks last 4 overall.
*Under is 9-2 in Cavaliers last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

CONSENSUS: 60.4 percent of users are backing the Hawks with 59 percent on the over.

Hawks' Korver out for remainder of playoffs

According to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Kyle Korver is out for the remainder of the NBA playoffs with an ankle injury.

The sharpshooter suffered the injury in Friday's Game 2 94-82 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Hawks find themselves in a 2-0 hole as the series shifts to Ohio.

Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals takes place on Sunday. As of this writing, the Hawks were +8.5 with a total of 190.5.

Irving's return for Game 3 a question mark for Cavs

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving tested his ailing left knee with a brace during practice and was listed as questionable for Sunday's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Atlanta Hawks.

Irving sat out the Cavs' 94-82 victory over the Hawks in Game 2 on Friday night after tendinitis flared up in the knee. Cleveland took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series and could close out Atlanta at home.

During a workout on Saturday in Cleveland, Irving made cuts and drove to the basket while testing the knee. Trainers worked with him to adjust a brace.

Cavaliers coach David Blatt said the decision to play Irving on Sunday will be based on his medical condition. Irving went to Florida on Friday to consult renowned surgery Dr. James Andrews, who confirmed the tendinitis diagnosis but offered other ideas on how to treat the injury.

"If he's able to play, then he'll play," Blatt said.

LeBron's teams have never lost a series when up 2-0

The Cleveland Cavaliers topped the Atlanta Hawks 94-82 in hoops action Friday evening, grabbing a 2-0 series lead in the process.

In series when his teams have gone up two games to none, LeBron James-led squads have never allowed the other side to come back en route to advancing to the next round 14 times. Cleveland's series price at 5Dimes is sitting at -3,500.

Oddsmakers have tabbed the wine and gold as 8.5-point home favorites when action resumes Sunday in Cleveland.

What bettors need to know: Lightning at Rangers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers (-135, 5)

Series tied 2-2

The New York Rangers have been at their best when backed into a corner in the postseason and continued that trend by reclaiming home ice in the Eastern Conference final. With the series now down to a best-of-three, the Presidents' Trophy-winning Rangers look to make it two straight wins in Game 5 on Sunday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Henrik Lundqvist was torched for 12 goals in back-to-back games but responded with a magnificent performance in Friday's 5-1 victory, making 38 saves to cool off the potent Lightning. "There was a lot of talk about him and about his play, but there wasn't any doubt from within our dressing room," New York coach Alain Vigneault said. Tampa Bay has scored six goals in each of its victories and tallied once in both of its defeats, but there was no loss of confidence after unleashing 79 shots on goal in the past two contests. "People are going to wake up in the morning and look at the box score and say, 'Oh, wow, Tampa got waxed,' " Lighting coach Jon Cooper said after the Game 4 loss. "But if you were in the building, you probably didn't see it that way."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, TVA

LINE HISTORY: The lines opened at NYR -135 with a total of 5.

INJURY REPORT: Lightning - D Matt Carle (Ques-Undisclosed) Rangers - LW Mats Zuccarello (Ques-Head)

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING: While the buzz after Game 3 centered Lundqvist's shaky play, there are suddenly questions surrounding Tampa Bay counterpart Ben Bishop after he surrendered five goals for the second consecutive outing. While Cooper dismissed questions of switching netminders, calling it "asinine," there are legitimate concerns over the Lightning's penalty-killing unit after allowing two power-play goals for the third straight game. "The penalty kill needs to be better," said Bishop, who lost for only the second time in 12 career starts against the Rangers. "It starts with me. Six goals in three games is unacceptable."

ABOUT THE RANGERS: While Lundqvist stole the headlines, an equally important development for New York was the revival of Rick Nash, who notched 42 goals in the regular season but had tallied only twice in the postseason before matching the total with a pair of goals Friday. "It's just natural to grip your stick a little bit tighter and to not see the ice as well when you're struggling," Nash said. "The puck doesn't feel comfortable on your stick, so any time you can get a goal and get a little confidence it helps." Former Lightning captain Martin St. Louis also broke through with his first tally of the postseason, ending an 18-game drought.

TRENDS:

*Lightning are 10-3 in their last 13 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Rangers are 11-3 in their last 14 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game.
*Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
*Under is 5-1-1 in Rangers last 7 home games.

CONSENSUS: 70 percent of users are backing the Rangers with 53 percent on the over.

Lundqvist needs to play lights out to beat Lightning

The New York Rangers put on a big statement game with a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final. More than anything that win highlighted just how Henrik Lundqvist's play has affected the Rangers outcomes against Tampa.

In Lundy's two career wins against the Lightning he has a 1.00 goals against average. In his five career losses to Tampa, Lundqvist is sporting a 5.20 GAA and has allowed at least four goals in each of those contests.

Madison Square Garden will host Game 5 of the series Sunday with the Rangers currently a -135 favorite.

Preview: Cubs (24-18) at Diamondbacks (20-22)
Game: 3
Venue: Chase Field
Date: May 24, 2015 4:10 PM EDT

Following another big offensive performance in Arizona from Anthony Rizzo, the Chicago Cubs can win their first road series against the Diamondbacks in five seasons Sunday.

After blowing a two-run, ninth-inning lead in Friday's 5-4, 13-inning defeat, Chicago (24-18) tied the game with two runs in the eighth and went ahead on Rizzo's three-run homer in the ninth to win 9-6 a night later. Rizzo, who nearly missed a grand slam but settled for a bases-clearing double in the fifth, matched a career high with six RBIs to help the Cubs snap a six-game losing streak to Arizona (20-22).

"You've got to love the fight within the group, man," manager Joe Maddon said. "I'm really proud of our boys.'

Winners in nine of 12, the Cubs are 3-2 on a six-game trip and have a chance to win their first series at Chase Field since 2010.

"They are a good team and they kept playing and good things happened for them," said Arizona manager Chip Hale, whose team had won five in a row.

Chicago's leader with a .322 average and nine homers, Rizzo is hitting .381 (8 for 21) with four home runs and 10 RBIs in the last five games at Chase Field.

'Yeah, I've been grinding," said Rizzo, who was 2 for 16 in the first four games of the trip. "It comes with the territory of the season. Just keep battling, keep going through the at_bats and the pitches, not try to do too much.'

With a hit Saturday, teammate Kris Bryant is batting .349 with four homers and 13 RBIs during a 12-game hitting streak.

The Cubs will hand the ball to Jason Hammel (3-1, 2.70 ERA), who owns the lowest ERA among Chicago starters and is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA over his last five outings. The right-hander didn't factor in the decision for a second straight start Tuesday at San Diego, but gave up two unearned runs, three hits and struck out eight without a walk while being victimized by three Cubs' errors in the 4-3 loss.

"Jason Hammel could not have pitched better than he did," Maddon said. "It's impossible. He was outstanding. He kept getting better. He kept making pitches.'

Hammel allowed only a solo homer to Tuffy Gosewisch and three other hits over seven innings of a 9-2 win over the Diamondbacks on April 22 of last year. This will be his first start at Arizona since July 23, 2011, when he set career highs by allowing eight runs and 12 hits in 5 2-3 innings of a 12-3 loss for Colorado.

A.J. Pollock, who has never faced Hammel, is 11 for 20 in the last five games.

"Just clicking, I don't know what's going on," Pollock, batting .400 in eight career home games versus Chicago, told MLB's official website.

"It's just baseball, you feel like you've got something, you're not getting hits, then you do the same thing and you're getting hits. It's just how the game is."

Teammate Jeremy Hellickson (1-3, 5.52) is 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA in four home starts this season but hopes for a second straight solid outing overall after he allowed a two-run homer and three other hits in six innings before leaving without a decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win at Miami.

Chris Coghlan is the only Cub to face the right-hander, going 2 for 5 with a triple and a home run.

Preview: Giants (25-19) at Rockies (16-25)
Game: 3
Venue: Coors Field
Date: May 24, 2015 4:10 PM EDT

The San Francisco Giants ended a lengthy streak in the finale to a doubleheader, but Buster Posey and Hunter Pence managed to keep a pair going.

While trying to extend those runs Sunday, the two hitters will attempt to lead the Giants to a series win in their four-game set against the Colorado Rockies.

San Francisco (25-19) claimed an eighth consecutive win for the first time since September 2011 by holding on for a 10-8 victory in Saturday's opener but fell 5-3 in the nightcap.

"It was a good run," manager Bruce Bochy said. "You hate for it to end. The guys have been playing well. Made a couple of mistakes tonight but it's a good run. They've been playing good ball."

Daniel Descalso put Colorado ahead for good with only his 12th home run in 560 regular-season games in the sixth and finished with three RBIs.

"Every once in a while, a line drives turns into a home run," Descalso said.

Posey singled in that final game to move his hit streak to 15 games and Hunter Pence became the first Giants player with a 19-game streak against the Rockies (16-25) when he singled as a pinch hitter.

Posey is batting .367 with 13 RBIs during the longest active streak in the majors after Jose Abreu's 17-game run for the Chicago White Sox ended Saturday. He's gone 5 for 13 in his last three games against Colorado and has reached base safely in each of his past 24 overall contests.

Pence is hitting .423 with five homers and 16 RBIs in the past 19 matchups. He's batting .323 in eight games since returning from a fractured left forearm.

San Francisco had dropped four of the first five games this season against the Rockies before taking the first two in this series. Tim Hudson (2-3, 4.01 ERA) will try to finish off the stay in Denver by winning back-to-back starts for the first time in nearly a year.

The right-hander went 6 1-3 innings in a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for his first victory in three outings. He hasn't won in consecutive games since May 27-June 1.

Hudson has given up three runs and eight hits in seven innings in each of his two starts against Colorado this season, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He was in line for a win in his most recent matchup April 25 in Denver, but Santiago Casilla allowed the tying run to score in the ninth in a 5-4 win in 11 innings.

Hudson is winless in seven starts versus the Rockies since a 1-0 victory for Atlanta on Sept. 6, 2012.

Chad Bettis is seeking his first win this season in his third start since being called up from the minors May 14. He gave up three runs in six innings against Philadelphia on Tuesday but exited a tied game in a 6-5 win.

Bettis (0-0, 5.73) lost his only start against San Francisco on Aug. 27, 2013, at Coors Field.

Pence is 2 for 5 with a home run lifetime against the right-hander while Posey has never faced him. Brandon Belt is 5 for 5.

D.J. LeMahieu, 10 for 25 in his last seven games, is 5 for 14 lifetime against Hudson.

Preview: Padres (20-24) at Dodgers (26-16)
Game: 3
Venue: Dodger Stadium
Date: May 24, 2015 4:10 PM EDT

Two well-pitched games in this series have gone in favor of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are on the verge of sweeping the San Diego Padres.

James Shields could give San Diego the pitching edge in the finale - if he can keep the baseball from leaving Dodger Stadium.

Shields looks to improve to 6-0 and avoid giving up more homers while helping the Padres end a four-game losing streak Sunday.

After winning Friday's opener 2-1, Los Angeles (26-16) won 2-0 the next night as San Diego (20-24) was shut out for the second time in three games. The Padres have totaled three runs while batting .150 with four extra-base hits, five walks and 38 strikeouts during this losing streak that has matched their longest from April 22-25.

'We've been through this before, and these guys are going to get out of it,' pitcher Ian Kennedy said. 'Our guys are too talented to go through a rut this long.'

The Padres' lone hit Saturday came when Yangervis Solarte led off with a single. Solarte was erased on Cory Spangenberg's double-play grounder, and no other San Diego hitter reached.

The anemic offense will put pressure on Shields (5-0, 3.74 ERA), who gave up two runs in seven innings and did not receive a decision in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs that marked the Padres' fourth straight victory with him on the mound.

The right-hander has surrendered baseball's most homers with 14, including 10 over his last 24 1-3 innings. Shields - who opened 6-0 with Tampa Bay in 2007 - can also be tough to hit, as evidenced by his NL-leading 75 strikeouts and ratio of 12.20 strikeouts per nine innings that is the majors' second-best mark.

He made his Padres debut at Dodger Stadium on opening day, giving up two runs with eight strikeouts over six innings in a 6-3 loss April 6.

Howie Kendrick is 15 for 29 with a homer off Shields, Adrian Gonzalez is 10 for 28 with two homers and Jimmy Rollins is 5 for 11 with one home run.

Los Angeles has produced six runs in the last seven games. Andre Ethier is 3 for 17 in that span, Kendrick is 5 for 26, Rollins is 4 for 24 and Justin Turner is 4 for 17.

Gonzalez is 15 for 31 with six homers and 10 RBIs against the Padres, with Los Angeles capturing six of eight meetings.

Rookie Joc Pederson has homered in both games, though he's batting .197 in his last 19 games.

"He's homered the last couple of days but kind of struggling a little bit," manager Don Mattingly said. "So I think it's going to be a constant learning curve with Joc and part of it is going through it."

Mattingly will give the ball to Carlos Frias (3-1, 2.55), who is 2-1 with a 2.82 ERA in four starts. He yielded one run in six innings in Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at San Francisco.

The right-hander has a 1.56 ERA in three career home starts. He has never started against the Padres, allowing one hit over three innings in three relief appearances versus them.
